I originally bought this product a few years ago but wasn't using my cast iron pans on a regular basis. Other than the original seasoning process, I didn't use the pans. Over the past eight months, or so, I've been using the skillets on a regular basis. The Caron & Doucet cast iron soap is used on a nearly daily basis and does an excellent job of removing cooking residue without removing any accumulated seasoning. I also use Caron & Doucet cast iron oil after each washing and can honestly say that these two products help to maintain the fully seasoned condition of the skillets, effectively rendering the pans non-stick. It should be noted that the very little oil is needed to put an effective layer of protection on the cast iron so the bottle of oil will last a long time. Using the specified one teaspoon of soap to wash a skillet will get you through a bottle of soap more quickly than using just a few drops of oil and working it into the pan with your fingers. I use this to clean my Le Creuset. It smells great and my pots and pans clean up well. I can't say if it is better than the Le Creuset brand because I've never tried that one but this one works for everything except if something is particularly burnt on and the a little baking soda and water simmered in the pot for 20 minutes does the trick. ... show more

Has kind of a funky smell, but seems to do a good job without destroying the non-stick qualities that you worked so hard to achieve. I got mine because I just couldn't let left over food just sit in my pans to rot. Most of the time I'm able to deglaze a pan immediately after I use it...but not always. I was looking for something to help me with my cast iron stove grills and I'm so thankful I found this. Although it doesn't take the stains away, it does help remove the 'white' residue that doesn't seem to want to come off with regular cleaning. It also leaves a nice shine on the grill. I wish I had known about this product when I first purchased my stove, as I am positive I would have zero stains on my cast iron had I used this from the very first day. This cleaner has coconut oil mixed with the soap. I only use this when I try to wipe it clean and there is stuff that won't wipe clean. When you use this soap it leaves a light oil behind after you rinse the soap off. You will still need to reseason your cast iron just because you did wash it and the coconut oil left behind isn't enough to cook on it again without it sticking. I like to season the cast iron pans 3 times before using once I washed a cast iron. I had to move and gave away all of my cast irons, I had a lot. I moved in with Sister and my brother in law bought some cast iron fry pans so when he uses one of them in a very short time I find that I have to clean them again and when I try to season them properly my brother in law never gives me a chance. I get one seasoning and he's using it again and he uses a press (bacon press) and really pushes down using his body weight on it which leaves stuff that I can't wipe or use one of the scrapers. I have a gas stovetop with cast iron grates. After almost 10 years, those grates were looking gray and ugly. Even though I cleaned and dried them, they never looked clean. I purchased this cast iron soap hoping for a miracle. I followed the instructions as best I could for use on cast iron grates instead of a skillet. WOW! They looked like new but I thought after they were completely dry, the ugly gray would show through. The next morning and every day since, they look beautiful... just like new!
