I bought this to replace my 20 y/o LLBean barn coat - a tough act to follow. While it differs from the barn coat in style, it measures up in quality and warmth. The jacket is beautifully constructed of waterproof materials, and doesn't feel excessively heavy or bulky despite its more-than-adequate warmth in below-freezing weather. I've worn it in heavy sleet, and stayed completely dry between my neck and knees. It has a hood that can be pulled loosely over headwear, that has a drawstring for a closer fit. There are several very roomy pockets, some with Velcro closures. Hands down, it's the most comfortable heavy-duty winter coat I've ever owned. The only "drawback" is that this jacket doesn't have a removable insulated liner like my Bean barncoat...but that's an acceptable tradeoff in a garment of this quality and style. *I feel I should mention that the "Elm" color is darker and a little more blue-ish than it appears in the posting photographs. I find it attractive, but someone expecting more of an "army green" may not.

Love the coat. The material is perfect to insure no horse/dog hair sticks. It's warm enough 30* when colder a hoodie under it is perfect. I have plenty of room in the shoulder with out it looking too huge. I don't like the hood at all & would remove it if I could. It's awkward when it's down, getting in the way of the front being closed to keep your neck warm because it doesn't lay nicely out of the way, when it's up it is only good for wind protection pulled up over a hat & for me it blocks too much of my view. Even with being unhappy about the hood this is a really great coat. Mine was purchased as a barn coat after My LLBean barn coat wore out.

I don't normally write reviews, but this coat deserves it. I work at a doggy daycare and I'm outside all day, even during the winter so I was on the hunt for a winter jacket. I don't even need to layer underneath on a 20 degree day, the jacket is so thick and warm without being restrictive. So far, it's stood up against jumping dogs with their nails and teeth. It also has many pockets, perfect for holding everything I need, treats, leashes, gloves, phone etc.

I am a ranch hand in Western Montana and am a woman on the older end of life that gets cold easily. I am impressed by several things about this fantastic jacket. The fabric is amazingly tough! I've caught it accidentally on sharp wire tips on fencing and there's no snag anywhere. I handle scratchy stiff hay a lot and there are no scuff marks. I work it hard and it takes it all! I train timid animals and the fabric isn't scratchy sounding so it doesn't make noises to scare them like many windproof jackets do. There is a wind flap inside the zipper that is over an inch wide and never catches on the zipper. The outside zippered chest pockets are roomy enough for my oversized cell phone with it's big case and they are easy to access quickly. There are 2 lower pockets on each side - a very roomy open slanted one for fully covered hands and easy access for extra supplies, and another very roomy one with a flap over it to protect what's inside. This has helped me keep snow and hay out of things that need to stay clean and dry when I'm working with snowy messy things. There is also one roomy chest pocket on the inside that has a short velcro closer. The zipper is high quality so no fighting it and it's covered with a flap that is snapped closed if you want. There is a flap of fabric over the top of the zipper so it doesn't irritate the skin rather partially or fully zipped. The hood is insulated, has a brim to shield the sun and precipitation, is roomy enough to go over a snow hat easily and has a drawstring to close off wind when needed. The jacket also has a waist drawstring for folks that like those. I am outside all day everyday and this jacket has served me well in hard winds, heavy blowing snow and I have been comfortable in it in 20*F all the way down to a "real feel" temperature of -65* this winter. I haven't used it in heavy rain yet but I have been in wet sleet with no problems. I absolutely LOVE this jacket and highly recommend it. My only hesitation when I first tried it on was that it felt like the shoulders were a bit narrow. However, it's an absolute non-issue under use, and I wear layers under it when it gets sub-zero. I love Carhartt but I think this is their top product.

I was in need of a new work jacket and decided to give this a try. I usually go for the classic carharrt jackets but I got one the the super dux jackets that is unlined and more of a windbreak and liked it so much I decided to give this a try. It’s rated really well for cold weather and so far it’s been great. It’s longer in the back and I really like that. I’m able to wear it on its own or layer under it. I ordered and small and it fits great im 5’3” and 105lb.

I saw the Amazon delivery and grabbed the coat to try on. Put it on and noticed dirt on the hood. Removed to find dirt and animal hair all over it! I certainly wasn't going to re-order a new one after this! Come on, Amazon, I would think you could do a little better. Now I have to truck this filthy thing over to Kohls to return! The coat is pretty nice. Sizing a little weird. Close fiting body but sleeves are too long. I would have kept it were it clean. Doubt I will order clothing from Amazon again.

This is a typical, high quality jacket from Carhart. It fits as expected. The fabric is a softer material than what you would normally expect but adds to its comfort. Would highly recommend.
