  • Carhartt Men's Storm Defender Loose Fit Heavyweight Jacket: A Study in Size and Durability
Size: Large Color: Shadow
Our journey with Carhartt products has been long and fruitful, marked by consistent quality and durability across their range. Venturing into the Storm Defender series for the first time, we selected a large size, anticipating a fit suitable for a standard large wearer. However, this jacket introduced us to a surprising spaciousness, hinting at a design favoring generous layering potential. The "loose fit" descriptor is notably accurate, as the jacket comfortably accommodates extra layers underneath, a feature that initially led us to mistake our large for an almost extra-large or larger. This roominess, while advantageous for layering in colder conditions, presents a sizing dilemma for those seeking a snugger, lightweight option. Echoing other reviewers, we suggest considering a size down to strike a balance between layering capability and fit. Despite this sizing conundrum, the jacket's detachable hood is a highlight, offering versatility and convenience in varying weather conditions. Initial tests under a faucet hinted at the jacket's waterproof capabilities, performing admirably against light to moderate water exposure. Yet, its efficacy in heavy downpour remains to be seen, a trial we look forward to. As expected from Carhartt, the jacket's construction is impeccable. From the resilience of the zipper and buttons to the strategic placement and abundance of pockets, every aspect of the jacket exudes quality and thoughtful design. Accessing essentials is effortless, thanks to well-positioned pockets that blend security with convenience. In summary, the Carhartt Men's Storm Defender Loose Fit Heavyweight Jacket stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to quality, though its generous sizing warrants careful consideration. Ideal for those who prioritize flexibility for layering without compromising on protection against the elements, this jacket is a robust addition to any outdoor wardrobe. With Carhartt's reputation backing it, we remain confident in its performance, albeit with a keen eye on how it holds up against the more severe whims of weather. ... show more

  • Very warm and comfortable
Size: 3X-Large Color: Shadow
Great jacket from carhartt, very warm, soft jacket with lots of room. ( runs large ) And being waterproof is a plus as is the removable hood. Definitely a good looking jacket that's built for durability. Zipper function seems fine. I think it's a great value for the money! Another great carhartt product !! ... show more

One of the best jackets I have ever bought. It's great in the rain, snow and cold. The loose fit also means you can layer up for warmth . Well worth the money.

  • GREAT
Size: Medium Color: Black
This Jacket is by far a well thought of Jacket for a field worker. I am a construction Line-woman and find that this Jacket does what it says and more. 1. It's comfortable, not bulky 2. Heavy enough for cold days but light enough for fall and spring. 3. COMPLETELY WATERPROOF. I can be out for hours in the rain and my clothes are dry underneath. 4. Pockets for days. Love the pocket phone on the chest for quick convenience. 5. Drawstrings all over to tighten up for your comfort level and keeping the rain out. 6. Velcro straps to tighten your wrist to size. 7. Strong durable thick material, superb quality. I could go on and on with great reasons why to buy this Jacket. I am looking forward to buying the matching waterproof defender pants next. Overall I give this Jacket two thumbs up. ... show more

  • I opened the package and was instantly disappointed -only because I ordered incorrectly.
Size: X-Large Color: Black
I opened the package and was instantly disappointed -only because I thought I had ordered Carhartt's lined, winter coat. What I received was a VERY heavyweight, waterproof, breathable (late fall/early spring) cool/mildly cold weather shell/coat! Really well designed and built, just not what I was looking for... it gets nasty cold up here in the northeast in the winter - I needed the sherpa lined coat! I returned it! (If I had the extra money, I would have kept it and re-ordered the correct one too)! ... show more

  • Tough Face Fabric with Some Hard Shell Features
Size: Small Color: Moss
So far, performing as expected. I intend for this jacket to be my hard shell to layer over my insulated puffer so the loose fit is generously cut - maybe overly so for the size small - would have preferred as relaxed fit like my Carhartt Sherpa-lined Wash Duck Jacket. Best feature: the tough face fabric! What denier is it? Certainly feels more durable (ie not packable and less breathable) than an alpine recreation-driven hard shell. Other great features - lots of pockets and thicker than a rain shell. Have not yet worn in the rain, but tested the DWR-coating under a faucet - repelled water as expected. Would give 5-stars if the waterproof membrane was 20,000mm rated, had pit zips, and the collar/neck assembly was not as bulky. It is fairly warm, but not intended for winter use unless your plan is to layer. Carhartt-tough, so I hope it lasts me 10+ years! ... show more

  • Fits great
Size: XX-Large Tall Color: Black
I will edit this review once I wear it out in the snow, but this definitely fits great and it's too bulky especially for a fat person like me. I typically wear a 3x in all my shirts and 2x fit me great and with enough room to wear a hoodie and not feel suffocated. It has a removable hoodie which is great if it's cold out but not raining or snowing. The only issue I could see is the zipper. Should be more heavy duty and not cheap plastic. I like how you can zip it and button it. Also you can tighten the wrist part a little. Size down if you want a tighter fit. ... show more

  • Great jacket
Size: XX-Large Tall Color: Mountain View
Keeps the rain out has big pockets and fits great. The drawstrings for the hood being on the back are a little strange but I got used to it quickly.
