Ink is generally such a huge scam for printer companies, but Canon ink is pretty reasonably-priced, so it's actually not worth it to try to get non-genuine ink. You save a few bucks, maybe, for ink cartridges that may not work at all. I replaced my previous inkjet with a Canon, specifically because I knew I'd be saving over the years on ink.
