  • Works with the Canon 70D
I needed a more consistent source of power for my 70D so I could record for long periods of time. This allows me to run my 70D as long as I need to. It is important to note that the 70D requires the battery door to be closed to operate. There is a little tab in the battery door to allow the cable to pass through so you can close it. ... show more

  • A pricey, but properly functioning device
I am giving this product four stars instead of five simply because I believe the cost is excessive. However, the product works well, and being an OEM part I feel safe trusting my expensive Canon EOS cameras with the power delivery. I purchased this to power the Cameras all day long, primarily for video conferencing. A little wasteful perhaps, but I'm pleased with the results. Both the cameras I use this with (a 5d3 and 7d2) have small rubber seals that can be moved to allow the cord to easily flow through with the battery door still closed. I do not noticed excessive heat from the Cameras as I have seen reported on some devices when using these external power packs. I have also seen a lot of comments about the needless "extra" power connections, however I am happy that it connects the way it does, if someone were to catch a cord it would pull the attachment point apart instead of causing a lot of extra force on the camera, potentially avoiding expensive accidents. ... show more

  • As expected, but use caution
This won’t affect the amount power you supply, so ensure you don’t just plug into any DC source.

  • Works for Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Pricey when combined with the power supply, but rather shell out the $$ than take the chance of running some aftermarket power source into my $$$$$ camera. Canon branded so no worries about that compatibility. I was a little concerned that it looks like the electrodes are in a different position than they are on the batteries, but it works fine once it's plugged into the camera - and don't forget to remove the little boot on the camera that allows the cable to be routed out of the battery enclosure so the battery door can be closed completely, or else the camera won't turn on at all. ... show more

  • Works Exactly as Desired for Canon EOS R
I recently started using my Canon EOS R + 35mm lens as a webcam for much more professional video during online meetings. I know this is definitely overkill, but if you have the gear already, why not? It's nice to be able to blur the background naturally through the camera's aperture instead of the background blurring effect in the meeting software. Anyway, I needed to essentially plug my camera in, so I could use it all day without needing to exchange batteries multiple times a day. I bought this along with the required Canon AC Adapter AC-E6N, and the 2 together allow you to have your camera running off AC power. I see a lot of people giving low ratings due to not knowing they needed both parts. I guess Canon could have been more clear, but it was understood by me before I purchased. The reasoning is sound, to allow you to use the power brick for more than just one camera. I hope that I only need to buy the inserted adapter when I decide to upgrade in a couple of years, instead of having to repurchase the whole setup. ... show more

  • It works. A bit inconvenient to use, but it works.
You need the power supply component… together it's an astounding amount of money for a basic AC adapter. It's also super absurd and ugly to have three different power cables daisy chained (there's the ac plug to the converter unit, then there's the converter unit with an extension coax cable… then you have the in-camera battery pack (this item) with it's own cable that is supposed to plug into the extension coax… but at a right angle??!! Whatever. If you need it, you need it and it's likely you're using your camera for pro work so it's not that much to pay compared to all your other gear. But they're definitely over-charging (no pun intended). The steps required to insert this into the camera and deal with the cable sticking out are awkward. There's a hidden rubber tab at the opening to your compartment that you have to peel away. Then, the battery compartment lid falls off easily and is hard to put back on. Then you have a stiff cable coming out of the bottom of your camera at an awkward angle instead that can make mounting the camera in certain situations a hassle. Once you get past all that, it does what it's supposed to do and it's reliable. ... show more

  • I'm sure it's fine - but not for my needs...
I purchased the CD-E6 so that I could plug in my 5D MkII using the old AC-E2 box that I owned for my old 5D Mk I. I did this because the full replacement is around $180 (for a power brick? Really Canon? REALLY?!?!) and I already had the 5D AC-E2, so I didn't need to purchase the whole thing. The adapter plug that goes from the battery pod to the "brick" part of the adapter (from the old 5D adapter) is not the same on the new plug. So now, not only am I out $40 for the plug I purchased, but I'll be out another $180 if I want to purchase the ACK-E6AC adapter that will actually work with the camera. I got scroooood. So the REAL question is, now that I own the DR-E6, do the 5D and the 5D MkII use the same voltage? 7.8vdc 2.0A? If so, then I can just splice the 2 wires together from the old and new battery converters. I'm not cutting anything until I know for sure, but be warned that if you are an original 5D owner and you have the AC-E2 adapter, this is in NO WAY compatible with it. One more thing - the materials on this version, when compared with the AC-E2, are much cheaper. The wires are thinner and flimsier, and the plastic is "cheaper". (I"m not sure how else to describe the plastic) ... show more
