have had Canary for several years now. Originally I was doing the free version. Worked out great. Now, they are not providing the video of the motion detected for free! Now this is a paid service! I will be looking for new cameras. I have five canaries, I am going to have to replace all of them because they changed the service they provided from the beginning without notification. The camera is great, except it will not record unless you purchase plan. It will not even show you who's at the door. Just goes to a live view now, after porch pipes have taken your stuff and they are not on camera. ... show more

What I wanted was a budget friendly device that would be easy to install, with clear images that would notify me if someone entered my home. This is exactly what I got. For the money it's amazing. The device looks like a speaker and can be set on a shelf or furniture. The camera is wide angled, picks up the whole room. When the Canary is in Nighttime mode the camera picked me up as I entered the room.and outlined my body as I sat in a chair in the dark.. I also received a notification on my phone. I can watch live when I and home if I am in another room. The sound is sensitive enough that it picks up any noise that a person would make when entering the room. A bonus that my family finds useful is the timeline. The timeline lists when I leave and when I arrive back home, and shows when I am away and when I am home. It can easily be moved to a different position or a different room . I chose not to purchase the membership and about the only negative is the repeated messages to become a member. not a big deal, just annoying. This product is perfect for people that are renters where there may be restrictions on mounting things to the property, I would recommend this for all age groups, but especially seniors. I feel safer with this product and it gives me piece of mind knowing that it works as describe. ... show more

I have rented out a couple rooms in my home so boundaries had to be established regarding which rooms are accessible to all, etc. I currently have 3 set up inside (these are ONLY for indoor use, you'll need a different model for outside), and I now have total peace of mind knowing for sure my personal space is not being invaded, no one is walking off with my stuff, and I see everyone entering and leaving my home. Super easy to set up, just need a nearby outlet to power the camera, and an internet connection for wireless communication. Video clips are auto stored on the cloud, so I never run out of recording space. The picture quality for this model is fantastic - in both daylight and nighttime recordings. The audio is very clear. The ability to speak through the cameras is a completely unexpected bonus. Many times I have had to reach someone at home and their phones weren't near by or weren't turned on, I just use the handy app on my phone to access any camera and speak through the camera to alert someone I am trying to reach them. No clue why there would be any negative reviews about this product. I'm totally sold, love it, and will be buying the outdoor models for further security. ... show more

After doing much research I decided to go with Canary view indoor camera based on reviews and specs. To replace Amazon cloud cam, because it no longer work with my upgraded network of 5G. I love the sleekness of the camera blends in nicely with decor and could pass for a really nice speaker. The camera was a breeze to setup, picture quality was fairly good. However I was a bit disappointed during set up that there wasn’t any subscription trial period. In order to get notifications of motions, person or recording of activities. You’ll have to pay for that service monthly or yearly, if not you’ll only be able to do live view. (Seriously! Who has time for that while at work?) I opted to do a one month paid service to see how well it work before committing to a yearly subscription. Good thing I did, it was an EPIC FAIL! I encountered a few flaws while testing out the different “Modes” to see how well the camera works. I needed a bit of assistance to figure out what I did wrong, if I’d set up the camera incorrectly or missed a few things within the app. To my surprise there wasn’t any live customer service to contact via phone in order to receive technical support you’ll have to email, tweet or live chat. After receiving a little help turns out I didn’t have a few things set correctly within the app. PROS. I love the fact that this camera has different options to choose from and to set accordingly to your schedule, for these reasons I chose this camera: • AWAY MODE- can be set to automatically detect when you leave, so you don’t have to worry “did I turn my camera on?” It will do that for you. • HOME MODE- detects when you’ve arrived home and turn camera off. • NIGHT MODE- set to your specific needs of when you go to sleep and wake up. It automatically turns on and off so you can feel safe at night in the event should anything go “bump” while asleep. This camera would capture it all. All the different modes works superbly. It does detects whenever I come and go and automatically turns on/off. Night Mode turns on/off at my desired set times. •EMERGENCY- I haven’t had the opportunity to use this option but I love that it’s available through the app and you can store you local authority. •PANIC BUTTON- haven’t used it but I’m sure it will come in handy. CONS. I quickly learn that this camera has major flaws. I decided to try out the camera in the different “Modes” to see how well they works, While in •“AWAY MODE” I turn off the “auto detect” upon entering my home the light underneath turns on which means it detects motions and is recording. However I didn’t receive a notification immediately, when I did receive a notification it was almost two minutes after. I went to check the recording and I was horrified! There was no recording of me entering my home or doing anything within view of the camera. But it did capture my movements a full minute after entering my home. I did this for several days and each day was the same. •NIGHT MODE- (I deliberately set this mode 30 minuets prior to my normal bedtime, to ensure that I was still up and about.) This mode needs major work. In this mode it captures me far less than it should. Most nights it didn’t even detect my movements or me. And it’s the same with notifications not until after it finished recording before I receive any notifications. After I contacted amazon I was told the camera was defected so then sent me a replacement. The replacement works a little better but more less of the same it records me only once entering my home. And I’ve yet to get a notification upon entering and not after a full recording. Night mode is working, still being notified after full recording. I have already purchased a different and more expensive camera and is now testing them both side by side, so far the other camera is working phenomenally the motion sensor is superb instant notification. While Canary is still lagging. The only difference with the two is that there’s no “night mode” option with the other camera but I can live with manually turning it on/off at night knowing that it’s going to work. And it also comes with a one month trial subscription. If within the next few days It’s still under performing i’m definitely returning and also fracturing that there’s no live customer service should I encounter an issue in the future. I’d prefer not to “tweet” my issues/concerns, wait however long to text back and forth “live chat” or wait hours/days for email responses. OVERALL I would have love this camera if It had performed as it should. With instant notifications, proper recordings and detections. The developer has a nice concept which still needs lots of work. Definitely better customer service options especially knowing that this is a tech device. I had high hopes for this device and was excited... now I’m just disappointed. ... show more

As a security recording device, this camera doesn't cut it. It offers no redundancies as a pure cloud device, meaning if Canary's server goes down or goes out of business, this becomes a paperweight. Also if your power or wifi goes out, then it also becomes useless, which you can help remedy by plugging your wifi router and the camera into a uninterruptible power system (UPS). Also the free cloud service provides recordings for only 24 hours, disables the 2 way radio and reiterating that since there is no local recording taking place, any footage you have is at the mercy of Canary. And they could choose to kill the free service at any time. That being said as a Camera and a Monitoring Device, this is excellent. The camera has the widest angle I have seen from any security camera and does not need to be mounted. It is intended to be set on top of a shelf, a stand, bookcase, desk, etc. If you need a camera that needs to be mounted or installed outside (waterproof) they make a model called the Flex. This "View" model is not waterproof and cannot be mounted, unless mounted in a pretty big custom enclosure. Night vision is excellent, and motion detection appears to work well. The required android/ios phone app is promising and does work as intended, but it is slow (takes 5-10 seconds for the video to load) and often freezes up. The free service is useful to monitor your apartment, pets and elderly parents. To provide a comprehensive security and recording, you gotta go with Arlo, Nest Cam, BlinQ or even one of the chinese camera companies, which offer local recording either by a base station or SD card. Pros: Excellent camera quality with wide angle and night vision. Free service allows you to adequately monitor a room, apartment, pets and elderly. No need to mount, just set it somewhere and use the phone app to set up and update firmware. Ability to call your local police, fire and paramedic dispatch right from the app. Cons: No redundancies. If Canary's server, your power or wifi connection goes out...then there is no recording. Canary could go out of business or shutdown the free service, then you have a paperweight. 2 way radio and recordings beyond 24 hours, you have to pay. You will get bugged to pay for the membership constantly if you use the free service. ... show more

I saw the Canary View at a client's home. It impressed me to try it at my home. The set up was quite easy. I connected the device to an outlet, downloaded the Canary app and within minutes, I was able to view my home on the Canary app. The Canary has two modes, you can chose "Watch Live" or drag the screen up to see a history of events. Because you can set a geo fence Canary knows when you leave and return home. In the history mode it lists a time and date of when you left your home, and when you returned. It will send you alerts any time it senses a person in your home moving about. It seems to ignore our dog though, so its somewhat smart. It has night vision that works incredibly well. Unlike another brand of security camera we have, this one records and sends us brief video clips which is much more manageable. The competing brand merely records all day and you have to search through the video to find any activity that took place. Canary is much more efficient. Canary has an optional monitoring fee. In return for the small annual fee, you receive the videoclips and monitoring. It is worth it. We are very pleased with the Canary View Indoor System and recommend it. ... show more

I've had this camera for awhile and it works well if you have BOTH paid services activated. But, if you have none OR only Professional Monitoring, it works intermittently. Customer service is not available on the weekends, though emergencies and crime never stop, and it's unreliable when you get error messages Level 1 tech support doesn't understand. They'll tell you they're going to escalate the issue and don't get back to you. They seem to wait you out to see if you can resolve the issue. I've done all I can--uninstalled and reinstalled the app and unplugged and replugged the camera. I'm still getting the error below, though my location has been registered and verified (until now) for a few years. The cost of monitoring for this camera is high enough that it should work better and have better CS. Look for an alternative. I'm going to. ... show more

I purchased this product to assist in keeping tabs on my 11 year old son. I work till 530pm and he supposed to be back from school by 315. I recently had received calls from the school saying he was doing XYZ after school at times he told me he was home. Also, noticed that he would say he did his chores but it didn't look like he did indeed I got home. So I picked up the Canary view to assist with minimal expectations. This thing is fantastic. Alerts me when motion within it's sight, real clear video and audio, you can talk to people thru it and it looks like a Bluetooth speaker that has a light. Fast forward to my trip to Florida. Alert goes off and I see my 17 year old son has asked a girl to come by without asking me about it. My answer if course would have been no! I was able to call him and watch the girl leave within 10 of her entering. Potential grandkids adverted! Great product, clear video, and good sound quality. With subscription you have a storage of 30 days off saved video as well. I love it! ... show more
