After doing much research I decided to go with Canary view indoor camera based on reviews and specs. To replace Amazon cloud cam, because it no longer work with my upgraded network of 5G. I love the sleekness of the camera blends in nicely with decor and could pass for a really nice speaker. The camera was a breeze to setup, picture quality was fairly good. However I was a bit disappointed during set up that there wasn’t any subscription trial period. In order to get notifications of motions, person or recording of activities. You’ll have to pay for that service monthly or yearly, if not you’ll only be able to do live view. (Seriously! Who has time for that while at work?) I opted to do a one month paid service to see how well it work before committing to a yearly subscription. Good thing I did, it was an EPIC FAIL! I encountered a few flaws while testing out the different “Modes” to see how well the camera works. I needed a bit of assistance to figure out what I did wrong, if I’d set up the camera incorrectly or missed a few things within the app. To my surprise there wasn’t any live customer service to contact via phone in order to receive technical support you’ll have to email, tweet or live chat. After receiving a little help turns out I didn’t have a few things set correctly within the app. PROS. I love the fact that this camera has different options to choose from and to set accordingly to your schedule, for these reasons I chose this camera: • AWAY MODE- can be set to automatically detect when you leave, so you don’t have to worry “did I turn my camera on?” It will do that for you. • HOME MODE- detects when you’ve arrived home and turn camera off. • NIGHT MODE- set to your specific needs of when you go to sleep and wake up. It automatically turns on and off so you can feel safe at night in the event should anything go “bump” while asleep. This camera would capture it all. All the different modes works superbly. It does detects whenever I come and go and automatically turns on/off. Night Mode turns on/off at my desired set times. •EMERGENCY- I haven’t had the opportunity to use this option but I love that it’s available through the app and you can store you local authority. •PANIC BUTTON- haven’t used it but I’m sure it will come in handy. CONS. I quickly learn that this camera has major flaws. I decided to try out the camera in the different “Modes” to see how well they works, While in •“AWAY MODE” I turn off the “auto detect” upon entering my home the light underneath turns on which means it detects motions and is recording. However I didn’t receive a notification immediately, when I did receive a notification it was almost two minutes after. I went to check the recording and I was horrified! There was no recording of me entering my home or doing anything within view of the camera. But it did capture my movements a full minute after entering my home. I did this for several days and each day was the same. •NIGHT MODE- (I deliberately set this mode 30 minuets prior to my normal bedtime, to ensure that I was still up and about.) This mode needs major work. In this mode it captures me far less than it should. Most nights it didn’t even detect my movements or me. And it’s the same with notifications not until after it finished recording before I receive any notifications. After I contacted amazon I was told the camera was defected so then sent me a replacement. The replacement works a little better but more less of the same it records me only once entering my home. And I’ve yet to get a notification upon entering and not after a full recording. Night mode is working, still being notified after full recording. I have already purchased a different and more expensive camera and is now testing them both side by side, so far the other camera is working phenomenally the motion sensor is superb instant notification. While Canary is still lagging. The only difference with the two is that there’s no “night mode” option with the other camera but I can live with manually turning it on/off at night knowing that it’s going to work. And it also comes with a one month trial subscription. If within the next few days It’s still under performing i’m definitely returning and also fracturing that there’s no live customer service should I encounter an issue in the future. I’d prefer not to “tweet” my issues/concerns, wait however long to text back and forth “live chat” or wait hours/days for email responses. OVERALL I would have love this camera if It had performed as it should. With instant notifications, proper recordings and detections. The developer has a nice concept which still needs lots of work. Definitely better customer service options especially knowing that this is a tech device. I had high hopes for this device and was excited... now I’m just disappointed. ... show more

The camera works great, it says it comes with a Wall adapter and a cord. Originally the ones that actually come with this product have, idk I would say over 6 foot cord? I haven’t measured but the cord that they give you (in a used one) is only about 3 feet just keep that in mind. Also the camera that I received is like a dark metallic gray. The original cameras are all black or you can get a white one but the picture stated is black in the photo. The camera works very good and is just as good as an original product. But I just thought that I would add that in case anyone was wanting a “used one “. It said cosmetic imperfections on the description, I say superficial scratches. One thing I will say with the original or a used one. DO NOT DROP THESE! They have some flappy cord in the center it comes off and becomes a $100 paper weight. I love these I pay less than $20 a month for 4 cameras. It keeps video and you can zoom, talk, edit out spaces and put a mask on a area. One spot that sets it off for no real reason(like a TV left on) . I can count on these to notify me when I need it to. I do trust the product. I will say though that you need a decent WiFi or internet for these. Also the used one doesn’t come with a Ethernet cable. But I didn’t need it for a Wi-Fi connect. Hope this helps! ... show more

    • Great as a Camera, Not so much for Recording

As a security recording device, this camera doesn't cut it. It offers no redundancies as a pure cloud device, meaning if Canary's server goes down or goes out of business, this becomes a paperweight. Also if your power or wifi goes out, then it also becomes useless, which you can help remedy by plugging your wifi router and the camera into a uninterruptible power system (UPS). Also the free cloud service provides recordings for only 24 hours, disables the 2 way radio and reiterating that since there is no local recording taking place, any footage you have is at the mercy of Canary. And they could choose to kill the free service at any time. That being said as a Camera and a Monitoring Device, this is excellent. The camera has the widest angle I have seen from any security camera and does not need to be mounted. It is intended to be set on top of a shelf, a stand, bookcase, desk, etc. If you need a camera that needs to be mounted or installed outside (waterproof) they make a model called the Flex. This "View" model is not waterproof and cannot be mounted, unless mounted in a pretty big custom enclosure. Night vision is excellent, and motion detection appears to work well. The required android/ios phone app is promising and does work as intended, but it is slow (takes 5-10 seconds for the video to load) and often freezes up. The free service is useful to monitor your apartment, pets and elderly parents. To provide a comprehensive security and recording, you gotta go with Arlo, Nest Cam, BlinQ or even one of the chinese camera companies, which offer local recording either by a base station or SD card. Pros: Excellent camera quality with wide angle and night vision. Free service allows you to adequately monitor a room, apartment, pets and elderly. No need to mount, just set it somewhere and use the phone app to set up and update firmware. Ability to call your local police, fire and paramedic dispatch right from the app. Cons: No redundancies. If Canary's server, your power or wifi connection goes out...then there is no recording. Canary could go out of business or shutdown the free service, then you have a paperweight. 2 way radio and recordings beyond 24 hours, you have to pay. You will get bugged to pay for the membership constantly if you use the free service. ... show more

this is my second Canary and the picture quality on this one seems to be less than the previous one. it is kinda fuzzy over 40 feet. lens seems to be clean. a bug will set it off. a brief power outage requires it to be reprogrammed to the wifi which was very disappointing.
