  • Great little heater for keeping the cold at bay.
Size: 3000B Color: Taupe
I used it two nights in a row with my 12 person tent. The second morning I woke up and it was 43 F outside but the thermometer in the tent was 60F. I had the heater at medium setting and good air flow. (I think with less air flow it would be warmer. However make sure you have a redundant carbon monoxide alarm for added safety.) I slept comfortably all night and I’m looking forward to enjoying fall camping with this heater. After turning off the heater the temp in the tent dropped to the low 50’s pretty quickly. ... show more

  • Describing this as a "propane" heater/stove is misleading
Size: 2000G Color: Navy Blue
If you are buying the "Campy Gear Chubby 2 in 1 Portable Propane Heater & Stove" expecting to use propane, there is a key issue to know: you won't be able to do this unless you get a special adapter that doesn't come with the heater/stove and that Campy doesn't have available. This model only comes set up to use with a fuel canister with a Lindal valve. This is the kind of valve on many butane or isobutane canisters for backpacking/camping stoves. As far as I know (and I checked with an internet search), propane canisters with this type of valve are not sold in the US. I bought this expecting to be able to use it with the standard 1lb propane canisters that are widely available. Not only did I expect this because the title says this is a "propane" heater and stove, but the Amazon description says "Fuel type: LP gas" and the description says "connect with the 1 lb propane cylinder for a longer usage by an extension hose or adapter." What is not clear is that this item requires a special adapter to convert from a Lindal valve to the valve used on a 1lb propane tank. It also really requires this adapter to be connected to a flexible gas hose line so that the 1 lb propane canister can be placed to the side of the stove as the 1lb propane canisters are too tall to place under the stove (which is where the smaller butane/isopropane canisters are intended to sit). When I contacted Campy Gear to get information about how to use this with propane, I got a message back days later: "you could use a compatible adapter with the propane bottle and our stove. Hope this could help you." When I asked about how I could get an adapter I got this message: "I am so sorry that our adapter is out of stock now. And here is the link of our adapter and hose: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095S9TGXK. Hope this could help you." This goes to a link that says the item is out of stock and Amazon doesn't know when it will be available. I didn't find this very helpful. When I tried to return the item after all this, I was told by Amazon that it was "not returnable." I"ve now found another adapter that may work, "Jeebel Camp 24inch Propane to Butane Adapter Extension Hose 1L Propane Small Tank Input" but this is $24 at Amazon, adding about 50% to the cost of this purchase. While this heater/stove may work fine with a butane/isobutane canister, another modest issue is that this has two parts that nest in each other for storage but need to be separated to install fuel and use the stove/heater. It is quite difficult to separate the two halves and there is no handle/pull to make this easy-- you just have to jiggle the two halves until you can get them pulled apart. In summary, I would strongly advise anyone considering this to use it with propane not to buy this (I very much regret this purchase). If you plan on using it with butane/isobutane, it may be worth considering, but this is not something designed and made to the standards I would expect with high quality camping gear. I now wish I had tried the Mr. Heater Portable MH9BX propane heater. This is a little more expensive than the combined Campy Gear Chubby plus adapter, but it looks much better made, is actually designed for 1 lb propane bottles, and has safety features this item doesn't, including an auto-shut off if tipped, and an oxygen sensor that shuts it off if it detects low oxygen levels. ... show more

  • Awesome little heater!
Size: 2000G Color: Orange
Now with the COVID situation and outdoor dining becoming the norm at restaurants, I've brought this awesome little heater with me and sit it on top of the dining table, or to the local park for a picnic (of take-out food). The restaurant staff thought it's the coolest thing ever. I thought they might be weary of it being a fire hazard or something, but I didn't got any negative reaction like that! First of all this thing is small, like about the height of a water bottle, so it's nice and discreet to bring out. At the same time it's incredibly powerful! When my wife and I sit across from each other and have this heater sitting on the middle of the table, it provides plenty of warmth for us. If there were 4 of us we'd likely need a second heater, with distancing in mind. It lasts a surprisingly long time! It can use Butane, or IsoButane, or Propane, or even IsoPro (a mixture of the two). The 8oz (227g) net weight (aka 13.1oz 374g gross weight) gas canister ($5) can provide heat at full blast for at least 2 hours (I've timed it). You'll need a lighter or match to start this. Just shove the lighter through the cage and then turn the gas dial on the heater to maximum and it will light up instantly. It has an adjustable flame - heat vs cooking. If you want a flame for cooking (because you can remove the cage and rest a frying pan or pot on this if you want), then move the little metal rod all the way to the right of the words "Air Valve" which you'll see engraved on the metal near the flame. But if you want flame for heat, then move the dial all the way to the left. I found that even though it came with the dial all the way to the left, I still had to do a one time adjustment while the flame was lit where I moved the dial all the way to the right and then all the way to the left again in order for the proper flame to come out. But after that it was fine every time I used it (with no further adjustments necessary). The air vent at the top of the cage should remain closed when using this as a heater (rather than using this for cooking). You may notice that the air vent rattles a bit because it's loose. I went to the hardware store and bought an "External Hitch Pin" (3/16 inch in size) and then clipped that onto the rivet that holds the air vent in place (see attached picture). This tightened up the air vent and eliminated the rattling. This heater comes with a mesh bag for transporting it, but I found an awesome (elegant) sewing bag to put it in. When camping season begins I'll be bringing it car- camping for heating and cooking. It feels stable enough to boil water in a pot, or use with a frying pan. I really like this little heater! ... show more
