  • Nothing fancy, but nothing bad!
Color: 6 Person Olive
I've been living in this tent full-time for a 2-3 months in the desert. While there are better ones I prefer for size and luxury, this thing is a surprisingly good tent for the money. As someone who has lived in a few different tents while doing outdoor work, here are my thoughts: Assembly: Ridiculously easy to assemble. Almost too easy. It feels overly simplistic at first, but fortunately my worries were put to rest over time. Packed Size: This is where it shines. I've lived in larger, more comfortable tents that took up 4 times as much space as this one when packed up. The tent case is effectively a small duffle bag, an almost negligible concern regarding volume it takes up in a car or closet. Waterproofing: It's taken a few pretty solid storms without any leaks. I trust it in thunderstorms no problem. Windproofing: This is where the desert truly tests it! Sustained 30mph winds are not uncommon. I am very impressed with how well it holds up, although it does keep me on edge at times. **With proper assembly and ALL rainfly reinforcement lines tightened down tight. Without all of these variables being perfect, it will not hold up (as with all tents of this shape/design)** Size: I decided to opt for a 6-person instead of an 8-person this time, and regret it. It feels a lot smaller than the floor dimensions suggest. For sustained use, consider a larger size. Durability: It sits in the sun all day, gets pounded by dirt, and I haven't even managed to put a hole in the floor yet. I'm admittedly pleasantly surprised Downsides: Simplicity. This tent is aggressively simple. You are getting no added luxury (but you're not paying for it either) Lack of windows. This is arguably the biggest drawback. You have the door which doubles as a window, and that's it. No options for additional airflow Door cover. While the tent overall is solid, the piece that hangs out horizontally over the door is not. This is a minor inconvenience more than anything, but with how flimsy it is it feels unnecessary. Stakes. The included tent stakes are pretty poor. That being said, that's standard for a lot of tents, and to be expected. Rainfly connection. Every now and then the velcro connection points on the rainfly come undone. Not a big issue, just be aware of it if using for more than a few days. Light penetration. This is not a blockout tent. Despite the dark color, the sun will pound you in the morning. Again, not a problem that is limited to just this tent, but something to be aware of. **A couple items of note, on general tent use** With all tents, I spray the exterior seams, rainfly, and various surfaces with waterproofing material. Similarly, I tarp the bottom and use aftermarket tent stakes for the type of soil (corkscrews for loose sand, higher end straight stakes for packed dirt) as opposed to the included stakes. This review (and how I consider it fully waterpoof and highly windproof) is written with both of these assumptions. Overall deal for the money? Stellar! One of the best deals out there. Would I buy it again? Probably not, but I'd still recommend it in a heartbeat to anybody for weekend use, or long-term use for a smaller person. ... show more

  • So far so good! Update at bottom after camping trip.
So far this tent is awesome! It is very huge and would definitely fit 8 people. Pros- It is very spacious and the windows allow for a lot of air flow. It is pretty quick to set up, the poles are color coded on where they go. I didn’t even use the instructions and it took maybe 15min including putting a tarp down. I expect it’ll be probably 5min-10min depending on if you have an extra set of hands. I haven’t added the rain fly yet, so I’m assuming that’ll take a little more time to figure out. Really enjoyed the mesh top, I was mesmerized by how open it was. Would be amazing on a clear night to see stars! Cons- The poles do feel a little cheap. It was windy the day I set it up, and they did hold up well. I’m going camping for 4 nights though, and I am hoping they last. My only worry is they don't feel very strong. I’m afraid if I bend them just a little too much getting them in place, they could crack or break. I also was a little bummed it only came with one privacy curtain, instead of two since there’s two spots for it. Oh well, I’m sure I could make one. I’ll update my review after my 4 night camping trip coming up in a few weeks. I plan to seal the seams to be sure it’s as waterproof as it can be, and I also bought stronger stakes to keep everything down. The ones that came are okay, but they are just the basic L metal ones. This tent really relies on the stakes to hold it up, so I’d recommend investing in some sturdy ones! I’m only giving 4 stars right now, as I want to see how it lasts during my trip. Hoping it’ll end up a 5 star review by the end of it! Update: 5 stars! It really did its job and held up nicely! Very happy with this purchase. We went camping for the full 4 nights, moving the tent 3 times. Everything held up and everyone was impressed with the quality. Make sure to bring a tarp for under the tent and think about better stakes! Had no issues with the poles. Pros: The mesh panels were a life saver. It was very hot when we went and it allowed a nice breeze in, plus was beautiful open at night- so many stars! It did sprinkle a little and the rain fly was super easy to throw on and kept the rainout. There was a little damp feeling on my blanket, but we left the windows open so that was our mistake. We fit a queen blow up, a twin blow up, and 3 people with sleeping bags (along with all of our backpacks) in nicely. With a tarp under everything the moist ground gave us no troubles inside. Cons: The zipper does get annoying. It has flaps covering the seams to keep rain out, but they do get caught. It wasn’t a big problem for me, but for my impatient friends it posed a challenge lol. If it’s really that bad for you, you can cut them off and just seal the seams yourself. The L metal stakes did bend due to rocks in the ground, so I would definitely recommend the stronger stakes to bring with and a hammer. We forgot a hammer and it was slightly challenging to get them in, but we ended up also adding sandbags for extra security. There wasn't much wind or rain on our trip, so I’m not sure how it would perform under those conditions. For a summer time trip up North it was exactly what I was looking for! ... show more

  • Great tent
Color: 6 Person Olive
Recently took this on a camping trip that had some unexpected rain hit us. Not only was this tent great for the hot weather but when it came to keeping us dry, we were dry and safe in our tent. Even with mud and a lot of other tents that were drenched, we were completely dry and was still able to open front panel to allow some air in but still kept dry. When the rain stopped, I checked the top where the cover was and not only was there no water, I could clearly see that the water that was falling on it was just beading right off. We did lay a tarp underneath this tent and even with some water nearby, this tent was still dry and kept all of our sleeping bags and blankets dry. When it comes to it being warm outside, this tent is perfect as it allowed the breeze to still come through and keep us cool throughout the day and night that we were inside. The tent itself is really easy to setup and take down. This does come with a carrying bag and normally I'm never able to completely fold a tent down to fit it back in a bag but with this tent, I was able to do so. The stakes that come with this tent are very strong and don't pull out easily which is great when wind is blowing. We've used this tent on several camping trips and even in our backyard and not matter where we use this tent, it keeps us cool and dry. Not to mention, the very middle of this tent stands at about 6ft high so there's no need to constantly be crawling through this tent. More than enough head room for some to actually walk around and be comfortable, especially when it comes to changing. ... show more
