  • Awesome for my environment
Initial impressions - I'll follow up after getting this out in the wild over the summer. I'm rather impressed with this camping hammock compared to the other budget items I've played with. First off, the roll up design when packed up is more friendly to the way I load up a backpack than the flat pack design of many other supported hammocks. When unpacked, set up is easy, the looped tree straps are always a welcome sight and the tension on the hammock does well to keep the poles pulled into a good position. I do have some concern with the material that forms the loop slings for the poles, but they slide into place and give great support. With the poles in place, the hammock is top heavy and wants to flip, but with the supplied guy lines and stakes, this isn't an issue. The design on this hammock is quite good for support and stability. Maybe it is because the poles help keep this hammock so open, but this seems larger than other camp hammocks I've got, and as a not small guy, I appreciate that. Stitching looks good and seams are either sealed or just stitched so well that I don't see any gaps. The stitching around the integrated rainfly is really good, even though it is attaching to mesh, and that is kind of rare in budget affairs. Now, the integrated rainfly is either a good thing or a bad thing. In hot climates, having that fabric directly overhead is going to trap heat and may make this hammock a bit hot in summer due to reduced airflow. Where I'm at in the mid-Atlantic, I've got less time in the year for this to be a potential issue, but I have a lot more time when keeping the hammock a bit warmer at night is a benefit. The other thing with the rainfly is that the mesh continues outwards beyond the border of the waterproof material so without any other protection, even in light rain, with a single touch on the mesh, you'll get water intrusion. Basically, I'm still going to use a tarp for rain protection because we get a lot of rain, especially when I'm camping. For comfort and insulation, this hammock fits a sleep pad easily and the whole thing is quite comfortable for a 6'1" 225 pound guy. For the moment, this is easily my favorite budget camping hammock. ... show more

  • This is a great way to relax
I think probably the best sleep I ever had was in a hammock. I would climb in and I would be gone for hours. The downside was I always suffered from multiple mosquito bites, to the point where I just stopped using the hammock. When I saw this hammock from Altena, the thing that caught my eye was it was a "hammock tent". I was able to climb into this swinging tent and just snooze away without fear of insects or rain - it was incredibly relaxing. The hammock itself is very well made. It has the attachment nylon and the carabiners to attach to the hammock and supporting trees - I used heavy 6 x 6 posts on my deck. There is a small side pocket to store your phone or book, but once you climb inside, and just relax, I think you will forget you ever had a phone - really - this is a cozy and comfortable place to just "make the world go away". The hammock is well made, and could easily support my 200 lbs. The attachment equipment is sturdy and it comes all packaged in its own carrying bag. Take a break, and relax in the most comfortable place you will ever find. I recommend it. ... show more

  • Good value for a hammock tent, but the material and design could be better.
Based on my first setup and use, I think this hammock tent is a good value for the package, however I'm not that impressed with the design and materials. It's a nice budget option compared to many more expensive hammock setups, but you do get what you pay for. Specifics: - The hammock is roomy and comes with everything you'd need to sleep outside and protect you from bugs (but not rain) - The green shade is nice if you want more privacy, but for me, the whole point of sleeping in a hammock outside rather than a tent is that you get to actually see the outdoors and trees. I wish it had a mosquito netting and removeable shade cover. - The hammock material is too stretchy to be a good long-term sleeping option. It sags where there's weight. It's comfortable to lay in, but for a tent-style setup, you want a firmer fabric that will keep your body straighter. - The tent poles do a nice job keeping the roof up, which is very nice. - I wish the zippers could open a bit more for easy in and out. Overall, I think this is priced appropriately at $40-$50 and it's a complete setup for someone wanting to try hammock camping. That said, I think I'd pay more next time for material that's a bit less stretchy. ... show more

  • Fun camping option. Plan to bring some sort of tarp to keep you dry.
This is a fun and comfortable way to camp without feeling exposed or getting eaten by a mosquitoes. I did not bother to stake it down which meant that when I wasn’t in the tent, the tent poles folded down, but since they popped right back into place when I got in the hammock, I left it that way. This provides enough privacy that you could use this in a campground without feeling exposed. The side panels are bug netting, which means you would not be well protected from rain. Definitely bring a lightweight tarp to hang above you and keep yourself dry! This took about two minutes to put up. As long as you can find some trees to hang it from, this is a really easy camping set up. ... show more

  • Great hammock…
I have multiple hammocks but I really like the design of this one. First off, it’s great that it come with everything you need to do the job. It’s at a great price point for all that it includes. It’s an easy set up and a nice design for keeping the critters off of you and have a comfortable night’s sleep. Glad to own it! ... show more

  • Material quality is low
I don't know how this got so many glowing reviews. Did people get in it? It's a fun idea and the tent is easy to set up, but the material is all wrong. It is super thin and has way too much stretch so that you feel like you are either going to bottom out or rip through. We put I on our hammock stand that we use for all of our hammocks and even the kids were stretching so low they were almost hitting the ground. I definitely wouldn't recommend this to someone, especially since it cost about as much as our high quality hammocks. ... show more
