I am biased against most American roasted coffees that follow the Starbucks (Charbucks!) philosophy of essentially burning the beans. I prefer a more rich and robust taste with an excellent cream for my espressos. Cafe Borbone certainly hit the right spot for me at an excellent price point of $20 for 2.2 lbs (1Kg). Most premier European coffees tend to be around $25. Highly recommend it.

Every morning usually after a trail ride on my bicycle I make myself a double shot of espresso in my old reliable Breville Cafe Roma. I am no connoisseur of coffee and have tried many different brands. I have a burr grinder and grind my beans right before I brew. Lavazza has generally been my go to brand if nothing else is on sale but I do prefer a blend that includes robusta beans which this does I do have to grind this a little less fine than some of the previous beans I've used. The brew has a nice head of crema and so far has been very smooth. It came quickly and appears to be plenty fresh and a roast that is dark but not oily. It's a 2.2 # bag so I'll have it awhile and look forward every morning to my freshly made double shot at a cost that Starbucks will never come close to!

Great caramel-y smell and taste, great intro price, good espresso.

Flavor was disappointing. It tastes a bit like stale chocolate... but it has grown on me. If the beans were roasted a little darker to bring out some caramel flavor and coffee depth, it would be much better. The acidity is low, which is nice. This is not returnable, so make sure you want it before purchasing. For the price, you get quite a bit of relatively decent coffee. As said, the flavor has grown on me. One tip: I add a little salt to the grounds before brewing - an old trick my grandmother used. It definitely helps.
