As an avid ornithologist, I love watching the local birds...It's amazing to see them fly around so effortlessly, limb to limb, acutely changing direction and altitude, guiding through branches and carefully crafting their nests. What does bird watching have to do with a review of the Cadence Baitcast reel you ask? Well my friend, they are one in the same.... I found my experience with the bait cast cult to mimic ornithology with the same skills as a south Texas mocking bird... My lures got hung up in limb after limb, flew effortlessly in multiple directions with the mind of an independent free-thinking, schizophrenic bird. I watched my lure hit branch after branch and change altitude and direction uncontrollably and with reckless abandon. Most importantly for those bird enthusiasts out there...if you like watching birds build nests...then bait casting is for you!!! I personally chalked up 100's of bird's nests with the Cadence bait caster and donated miles of braided, mono and flouro line to the cause. Is this the Cadence bait caster's fault? Heck no! Not at all...it's a great reel and works well. Smooth action, light weight and looks amazing in my angling arsenal. But as a life-long spin cast reel master...the transition was hard...painfully hard...and to be fair, i still don't get it. I've gone fishing with buddies and guides...i have YET to ever not meet a challenge to drop a lure in a tight spot or skip it under a dock with my spin cast reel. So, don't believe the hype. If you are happy with your spin cast, ignore the 'pros' who tell you a bait cast is king...and yes, i did finally become existentially connected with the bait caster...artfully tuning it in - just right - to each new lure or line...or wind condition...sigh. Dude, it's a fishing reel, not a Hemi racing motor...my cardiologist doesn't require that much fine tune precision when he dials in my pacemaker. Go fishing, have fun. If you are new to bait casters and want to make a pot of spaghetti with your fishing reel/line, then give it a try. I'd rather enjoy my time on the water than inject another irritation in my life. Life is to short to be ticked off trying to enjoy your hobby because the 'trend' is to claim bait cast reels are the next tier. I'd recommend picking up a fly reel...where at least you can look cool while your last nerve and last ounce of patience is tested!

Ok, let me say this before anything else. Like most of you I consider myself a serious fisherman. No I'm not on the pro circuit but I do a lot of fishing......largemouth, walleye, smallmouth, pike, crappie, bluegill and some catfishing - so I buy lot of fishing equipment (much more than I need LOL) rods, reels, lures etc. but I try to buy good equipment without breaking the bank. A few of my fishing buddies like some of you out there insist on buying $200 rods and reels and if that works for you fine. However I prefer to buy good equipment that works just as well as your $200 stuff but at a much lower cost and it can be done! Which brings me to the Cadence Baitcasting Reel - To all of my fellow serious but budget conscious fishermen I think this reel is an off the chain - excellent buy! But let me say this I know the REAL proof will come when I use it on the water next month and I'll give you an "honest update" on how it performs when a fish is on the other end of the line! But I can still give you some first impressions because I have it in my hand - the reel is light weight, I spooled it with some 12lb mono, adjusted the brakes and made some cast with different weights - no problem, the drag is butter smooth and on top of everything else it looks really good. I think the deep grayish color of this reel will match up well with most rod colors. I bought the 6:6 gear ratio and after giving it these mini-test I ordered the faster 7:3 gear ratio for another rod. Now check this out! The CB8 Model list for $70 but Amazon had some kind of a clip-on coupon and I got the reel for only $38.99! Man are you kidding me?!! Read the specs on it and you'll see this reel has many of the same features as those $200+ reels making the Cadence CB8 Baitcaster an absolutely fantastic bargin! The company even gives you a 90 day trial so if you don't like it send it back for a refund. Again I'm giving this reel a lot of kudos based on my initial eye test but I promise to give you an honest "on the water test" in the next few months of actual fishing use. But I'm betting that I'll end up keeping both of my reels rather than sending them back. So for now I'm going with a 3 star review an hope to give a 5 star down the road. One more tidbit - did you know that most of those so-called brand name $200+ reels are made overseas in Japan - you're really paying more for the so-called name on the box. Mr. Michael -25
