Used this hammer set to tap dents and dings out of stainless steel automotive trim. Decent quality for the price. The hammer faces had some grit lacquered into them, but a quick pass over a wire wheel removed the bumps.

These are even cheaper than I had expected. I did not expect body shot quality... But... these are rough. They would most likely work pretty good? as is but I want a shiny even surface if I am gonna make a shiny even surface on sheet metal. Sanding out the roughness just pointed out that there a big high and low spots on the surfaces. I spent a few hours getting rid of at least the major high and low spots but as I said... for most of us? They would work good enough as is. ... show more

    • Great set for the price especially, good for those who choose to save money doing own work.
For the price of a half hour of the average cost of auto body work (@ $50.00 /hour) you can buy this entire set. It's been over 20 years ago, but I bought a small sports car that needed body work. I bought most of these tools for it back then and I think I paid more for them in non-adjusted dollars. Ultimately after repairing the dents and rust, glassing it over and preparing for paint. I spent about 50 hours making it all look nice. While they are more skillful at the shop, I'm sure, at the time I spent it would cost $2500.00 in today's dollars. Of course, it was not all with these tools, there was putty work, rough sanding, wet sanding, and priming, but still, expensive and body shops would add materials. Due to the prep I did that car was sent to an independent paint shop that had to do little prep work. They charged about $1050.00 in today's dollars to add silver base coat, then metal flakes (Blue Indigo), and 15 coats of lacquer clear coat. Then rubbed it out to a brilliant shine. The hood had been removed to independently paint. I brought it inside and I swear it looked like it was made of fiberglass. Anyway, back to the point, these are great for body repairs and if you are meticulous, you can save a lot of money doing the work yourself. I would have spent less time today given all the how to videos on the web, but what I did was well worth the money spent. The hammers and shaping tools can do wonders for car body repair or working with other jobs. If they are missing anything I used to have it's a dent puller. A device with a screw at one end and a sliding weight to pop out a deep dent you can't do with suction cups. Amazon has hundreds of different kinds of dent pullers at all prices, so you can add to the set easily to do most anything save frame straitening, that gets costly. A nice useful set for many things. The media could not be loaded. I checked this kit out for various home autobody jobs. It has the necessary things to get started. I revised my thoughts on it a little since it says double ended dolly included but they did not grind smooth the second end of the dolly so using it could put a few bumps in the work.
