  • Great Value and meets my needs
I purchased this microscope to look at knife blades while learning to sharpen them. I am still learning, but it seems to give me what I am looking for. One trick is to get the lighting right. The knife blades are shiny, and this can cause problems. I also set up my own stand because it better suited what I was doing. Another thing it helped with was seeing a burned-out circuit. My son plugged in a USB device to his laptop, and smoke came out of the USB port. We opened the laptop to see if we could find out what was wrong. I could not see the burned chip with my naked eye, but the microscope saw it very well. Luckily it was on a separate PCB and not the main motherboard. The pictures are of: Band aid - blue weave Hard glasses case - black/gray weave Foam brush - the creepy looking one Knife I sharpened - the blackish portion was from a sharpie so I could where I was sharpening it Phone screen Burned up circuit PCB with the burned-up circuit The factory edge from a new knife My camera setup. An unseen chip on another knife. Pros: Wi-Fi connection to phone. Internal light if needed. Great price for what you get. Rechargeable battery. Picture quality is good if you get the focus and lighting right. Cons: The stand is inadequate for most things. Would like to be able to zoom and focus without touching the microscope The 5-star rating is because of the value. I could spend hundreds or thousands for a better microscope, but this is all I need. ... show more

  • Impressive Digital Microscope!
Full disclosure, I've only had this item for a couple hours, but I already am very impressed! I'm new to 3d printing and I'm struggling to get all the little maintenence items for just working on printed projects (debur tools, x-acto blades, loupes, calipers etc). I struggled with some of this (again, new to printing, not really sure what I do and don't want just yet), but of all the printer-y-things to arrive so far, this one is my absolute favorite! My experience was painless. I pluged it into my PC, opened up a USB camera application (in my case the built in windows camera application) and BOOM - instant success. The URL for the site on the instruction manual actually worked, and took me to a place I could actually download software, with actual instructions on how to do it (if I wanted to - for example windows camera tool doesn't provide proper measuring tools, so if you want accurate measurements from the digital view, you'll want to download one of these apps - after watching a YT video I'm confident I could put one in play with ease, but didn't see the need just yet! Still, good to know the apps are there and there's a few downloadable software options available! In addition to this microscope, I also tried some different "classic" style loupes. I didn't know what to expect as I've never used a loupe prior to this. My eyes could barely see through the lenses! Additionally the loupe LEDs were either blinding on them or downright didn't do their job (one of them was very finicky and won't stay on without tapping the LED itself to get it "just right" and it'll remain on for at least a little bit). but when it comes to honing in on "what the hell actually happened" with a 3d print, This guy is going to be a lifesaver! It's rare I leave a review, especially for a product I havent' had in my hands for that long... so I may revist and update this review at at later date, but for today, right now, this thing is awesome value and I'd reccomend picking one up if you were "on the fence". I'd read that "99% of them are the same thing with the same low quality image sensors" and looking aroud, I saw that to be pretty true. In forums I found posts with really crappy quality images from some of the other digital microscopes, so when I finally found one that appeared to use a different sensor (4k, different body form-factor, etc) and had some decent reviews... I figured it was worth a try. I haven't used the other microscopes, so I can't attest to them, but I'd wager if you are looking and ended up here - This is probably the product you are looking for! I included a couple images showing what one of my failed prints looks like from the perspective of a post-it note via cell-phone, versus through the lens of the microscope. It's actually crazy how well it does the job. The "way zoomed" picture is actually just the first zoomed picture, but cropped just to what I could fit on my screen at 100% when viewed in a browser. Little bugger does a good job! ... show more

  • Good scope, good seller, finicky focus ring
Update: I got the stand today, 6 days after getting the microscope. It, the little case it came in, and the service are all worthy of 5 stars - quick turn around, easy folks to work with, excellent quality. Pros: It will take sharp pictures. The WiFi Check app for this specific camera seems to do better than DM WiFi, but it's hard to be certain. Going forward, I intend to use the WiFi Check app as it did install on my old phone. The scope fits in the stand perfectly and everything works (as far as I can tell). Con: It is really hard to get something into sharp focus - I'm photographing paper with writing on it, so this isn't a case of me not understanding depth of field: I've been doing this for 3 years (with 2 previous microscopes like this, so I have lots of experience with these things). I don't know if the depth of field for this camera is less than my old one, or if the focusing ring is more sensitive (it is *very* sensitive), or if it's lag time on the WiFi connection - or perhaps all three. Whatever the case, I find it very hard (but not impossible) to get a sharp picture. For that reason, I'm taking away one star and noting it in this review for future buyers. This isn't a reason not to get the scope, just a note that you may need some more patience. :) Original Review: I've only just gotten this today and done tests, but so far, so good. It took about 3 hours to do the initial charge (the red LED goes off when charged). I was able to use DM Wifi (app already installed on an old Android phone that probably won't take the newer app), so that's a plus. Picture quality looks good, but I'll need to do some more images to get a better idea of its range. As everyone says, the stand is all but useless, but I had my own home-made stand that I was able to attach it to. The free stand is requested and looks much better than my home-made one, so I'm looking forward to that. My biggest concern is whether the battery will last - my previous microscope (not this brand) lasted only 23 months before it wouldn't charge - in this day and age, that's not acceptable, so I guess we'll see how this one does. I'll update this review when I have the stand and after I've done more test images. Full Disclosure: They ask for a screenshot of your 5-star review before you can get the stand. ... show more
