This batch of tools is pretty hit or miss. You get a few good tools mixed in with a few bad. If you are willing to sort through it all, you will be able get off to a good start. First the good: The cutting mat you get with this kit is great. The thickness can handle the impact of a mallet and pricking forks, but if you are using a rotary knife, be carful not to press too hard or it may cut right through. The edge beveling, line grooving tool is handy. There are better out there, but it is a bargain for the price! The burnisher this kit comes with is okay. I ended up sanding it down with some 500 grit sand paper which has helped get a good edge on my projects. The rotary knife is Sharp as expected, but it is cheaply made and the blade with come off of you do not tighten the screw on the back. That being said, it works well for the price. The Bad: The skiving blade you get is sharp, but will quickly dull even when using it on light weight leather. I have found that it fills within one or two uses after sharpening. It’s pretty much crap IMO. The whole puncher honestly just hasn’t worked well at all. I’ve tried it with several different leathers and on several different surfaces and it just doesn’t cut it. The rivers the set came with has been nothing but a headache, though I think it’s more so because of the tools included as opposed to the rivets themselves. The rest of the stuff in this set I don’t use at all. Lastly the leather it comes with is trash in my opinion. That being said I don’t think any one is buying it for the included leather. Overall, it is a decent buy for someone just starting, but won’t last long if you plan to go beyond beginner projects. If this is hobby you really want to get into, my advice is to buy quality. ... show more

Okay so this is my first real leather working kit. It has most everything you'll need with the exception of a hammer (mallet). And I recommend getting one, because while the punch works well enough it requires a lot of elbow grease to punch the very soft sample leather given in the kit; Which is an awesome bonus by the way. The cutters are very very sharp and the finger cuffs are very handy. I only gave 4 stars for the " beginner's " because I have no idea what some of the tools are supposed to be used for and if there were a guide with at least a name of the tools then I could look them up. Not impressed and very disappointed. Cheap tools, no product information or instructions for use... I had to buy a separate book to aid in using the tools, which some are useless and not safe to use (some of the wheels wobble and aren’t sturdy enough to apply proper pressure for use. ) I should have read the reviews before purchasing. It’s unfortunate that the time window for return has already passed, as I put the kit to the side, was so unimpressed that I forgot about it until I saw it today. Another complaint would be that I paid $3 more as they lowered the price since my purchase in June, leaving me out of almost $21... live and learn. Perhaps my kit was a fluke, but I wouldn’t recommend purchasing (especially for a beginner as there are no instructions for use. ). ... show more

Product arrived quickly and in excellent condition. The set came with a lot and I was impressed with the quality. That said, I did need to sharpen all the various cutting tools. I quick leather strop and rogue make them very effective at cutting leather. The thread for sewing the leather is excellent. A few items, I am still figuring how to use, but overall a very good set. If your roll up truck bed cover ever comes apart from the Velcro this set will get the job done! I don’t know what a truck bed cover is made out of but it’s thick! You’ll have to use pliers to push every stitch through! You will definitely break a needle or two but you probably bought this because you didn’t want to pay someone to do a repair for you and this will be the only ten dollars you’ll pay! Not sure why the “thread” doesn’t even fit through the needles eyes but maybe if you get the wax off it’ll thread. I don’t know much about sewing, but if you’re looking for a cheap product to most likely use once in your life, try it out. Worst that can happen is you get frustrated and quit your repair and go to a reputable shop to get the work done. Next time someone’s leaning against my 16 year old dodge Dakota I’m going to point out “that stitching was done with a BUTUZE leather craft set!” ... show more

I would say as a first time leather worker, the kit worked for what I needed it to. The groover did not cut into the leather but just pressed it down. Broke several needles on the first project and I contacted company and they sent out 2 more pack of needles, however I am still waiting on them. However for the very basic beginner this is not a good choice. The tools are ranging from basic to very advanced. Some beginners who have no skill will be lost on some tool use.
