  • This is a joy to ride with my kiddo!
Style: Piccolo Color: Green Size: 7-Speed
Our family likes to ride bikes together, and when my kid was 2-4 years old I rode with him sitting in a Hamax kids seat on the rear of my bike. Now that he is 6, I wanted to be able to bike with him, but I don't trust drivers in our city (we live in a busy city in New England). I researched several models, and tried out a trailabike that attaches to the adult's seat post, and found it to be fun, but a bit wobbly. The Burley Piccolo advertises a sturdier ride due to attachment on the bike rack, and I have found this to be 100% true. It is so sturdy, that after we dismount our bikes, the entire structure can stand upright with my kick stand (he doesn't need one for his section of the bike). The piccolo is also great because our kid can shift gears, and when he pedals hard he is able to push us up the hills on his own! It is super fun to bike together, and it is much less work than when he was 3 and sitting in a bike seat. There is so much less drag, and even if he isn't pedalling, it doesn't feel difficult to pedal him. It's so much fun! I'm hoping this lasts several years so I can pick him up from school for years to come. My husband tried to put it together and made a mistake, and Burley offered excellent support to help walk him through the mistake (he put something in upside down and it was stuck). We did end up taking it to our local bike shop so they could install the rack for me, so I recommend you take it to a bike shop for installation if you don't enjoy putting things together. It was around $100 for the bike shop to fix our mistake, finish putting the bike together and attaching the bike rack. Totally worth it to be able to cruise out of the shop with my kid! I absolutely LOVE this bike trailer. It comes off the bike rack easily, and if like me, you are storing the adult bike and the trailabike separately, I recommend getting the Burley Wall Mount for the Trailercycle. I also found I was able to add a rear sac to the rack when the trailer is installed- the Trek Bontrager single pannier. I just don't engage the lock, and it works. I've also ordered the Burley sacs to see if they will work (if not, I'll use them when I'm not riding with the trailer.) ... show more

  • Amazing, Fun, Comfortable, Safe and Easy-to-use Trailercycle
Style: Piccolo Color: Green Size: 7-Speed
I very rarely review products, but I have been enjoying this one so much for the past two months with my 4-year-old, that I wish to share it with others. I am a rather short woman, and the trailers that connect under the seat post could not fit my bike at its seat hight. Burley's Piccolo, which connects via a rear rack, does not have that problem. I found it hard to connect the rack myself, so I had it done by the local bike dealer (which added about $25 to the cost. I did not mind, as I got the trailer at an amazing discount on Amazon). Once we adjusted the trailer's seat and handlebar hight correctly, my 4-year-old, who used a 12" bike with training wheels up to that point, found it sturdy and comfortable. She loves riding with me whenever possible. With its revolving hitch, the combined bike is sturdy, very easy to maneuver even on narrow paths and around corners, and I hardly feel the extra load. With its 7 speeds, even a young trailer-rider can contribute a lot of riding power, so that we can make it even up steep hills. In addition, it is very easy to attach and detach the trailer (it takes just a few seconds). I also appreciated it coming with a flag, which connects easily, stays in place while riding and can be disassembled compactly. PROS Connects to the back and not to the seat post. Comfortable and adjustable. Sturdy and easy to maneuver. It does not feel much different than riding alone. The trailer-rider takes part of the cycling load, with 7 speeds. Easy to attach and detach. The flag works well and can be disassembled into two short rods. CON Knowing nothing about bike-assembly, I found it hard to connect the rear rack myself, and found the directions to be very minimal (more suitable for experts). It was an easy job for a bike mechanic, though. After two months of use, I am absolutely raving about the product. I highly recommend this addition to your bike and your lifestyle. Enjoy! ... show more
