Description

This is Bunny Williams’ most ambitious book to date. Inviting us into her impressive grounds with charming personal anecdotes, expert advice, and hundreds of stunning photographs–printed on two different speciality stocks–Bunny Williams illustrates every aspect of the gardens surrounding her eighteenth-century manor house in Northwestern Connecticut in different lights and seasons. A popular stop on the Garden Conservancy circuit, Williams’ property boasts a parterre garden,year-round conservatory, extensive vegetable garden, orchard, woodlands, an aviary with exotic fowl, and a rustic poolside Greek Revival–style folly. Each section of the garden is accompanied by adirectory of featured plants—from native ferns and succulents to a wide variety of flowering specimens. Throughout, the revered designer shows us how she incorporates nature in her interiors: in stunning floral arrangements, unique tablescapes, and elaborate holiday vignettes—where a rescued bird’s nest commands as much attention as a prized collector’s item. Whether in the intentional juxtaposition of high and low, or the considered placement of a garden bench to appreciate aparticular view, home and garden together reflect the epitome of Bunny Williams’ inimitable style. • So many beautiful ideas
There are so many beautiful pictures in this book to give you inspiration in your garden. I really love it! I really love that she writes about the history of her garden, when she began it and why she put things in certain places. It is not a how to book at all. It is completely about her personal garden and I absolutely love it! ... show more

  • A Good Book for Inspiration and Ideas for your Garden/Outdoor spaces!
This book is great for inspiration for your own garden or outdoor space. Lots of beautiful, big, high quality pictures of her gardens and plant specimens taking up the whole page or two. no squinting needed. I enjoy looking through it but it is not much for reading. Bunny does share insight to what her gardens are, how her gardens come to be and how they are connected. I find the book is lacking in organization of text and photos that belong after the readings. Readings are begun on one page but are interrupted with two or three pictures before starting where the reading left off, it does not flow as a book would. The pictures following the mini chapters are plant specimens and the garden space without captions. Captions with extra information or tips and tricks would add a nice touch. I believe that photos from above would benefit the reader on how the whole space is laid out, no space left unseen. An inspiring and beautiful book for sure, but a little bit more organization of photos and writing would make the book even better. ... show more

  • Wonderful book - especially if you have been to her Ct estate
I toured Bunny’s Falls Village, Connecticut estate and this book is a treasure that reminds me of that wonderful visit. The photography is gorgeous and her stories of the development of her gardens over the years are insightful. She readily admits making mistakes and talks about how much she has learned over the years. Love her candid comments. Several references to gardens in Europe that provided inspiration. Not a detailed how-to book per se, but there are plant identification pages for some of the plants in each of her gardens. I loved it. ... show more
