  • A little finicky, but works great
Something fun for my 7yo to work on and get her outside. An adult or older kid definitely need to help with some of the assembly, and you need to make sure the part for the axel isn’t too tight or the wheel will not turn.

  • Great STEM activity!
My nephews loved these! Directions were easy to follow and it was a fun project!

  • Please don't buy this
Hard pass on these folks. I ordered 30 of these for the space camp kids. The screws are the size of a dust particle (I'm barely exaggerating). I can't imagine an adult trying to put this together without losing screws, much less kids. I'm packaging them all up and sending them back for a full refund. So disappointing. ... show more

  • Fun for experimenting with solar energy
This set comes with four solar car kits. Each is identical, and each comes with an extra short screw, long screw, and wheel spacer. The cars were easy to build and my kids had fun running them in the sun. They will run fast, but only on level (or downsloped) ground, as the motors aren't powerful enough to drive uphill. The instructions aren't kidding when they say the solar collectors may not run well near dusk and dawn. They run well outside in direct, high-angled sunlight, but not so much with the low angles. For an experiment I also tried using a mirror to redirect sunlight to a collector in the shadows but had only minimal success. Another interesting result: After our house was built We had some non-tinted, totally clear windows leftover that we wanted to use to build a greenhouse, but we were warned that they filtered out too much sunlight for photosynthesis. My kids tried setting their solar cars in a window, but they didn't work despite the direct sunlight. Then we opened the window so that the light didn't pass through the glass, and they worked. (So a side-lesson is that we learned that it really does matter what kind of glass you use for a greenhouse.) ... show more

  • Solar panels aren’t the best, but still a fun build.
We are a big fan of the STEM robots. The kids love building these even if they turn out underwhelming (for me). The kids did need help with the screws, they are just way too small to handle, so having a screwdriver that has a magnetic pull helps. We took the cars outside to have a little race, they moved slowly but the kids were invested and although it was a long race to go 5 steps, they still had fun. I gave it 3 stars for the underperforming solar panel, but again, that’s probably reflected in the price since it’s fairly cheap. The product seems to be durable, but the more it’s played with, time will tell. ... show more

  • Really fun kit for your kid and their friends!!
Builds 4 solar cars! This is great if you have a bunch of kids or want to have a little build party with your kids friends. These go together very easily and fairly quickly. Then the kids can play with them and even race them. The instructions were pretty easy. Fun kit!!

  • Cute
My oldest grandson loves Stem kits and coding, he was excited when he saw how many little mini robots he could build with just one kit, he’s had a lot of fun assembling them all, pretty sturdy too, our cats have tried to chase them and haven’t inflicted any damage lol
