  • Best Quality for Price Printer
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ4335DW Pattern Name: New
I absolutely love my printer. I highly recommend for anyone who is not necessarily "tech Savvy" but needs something that works easy, fast, and well. The price is definitely well worth the quality you receive from the printer. Don't listen to the reviews about the ink - I have been printing tons of pictures (full color), PowerPoints for school, and documents for personal use and I still have nearly full cartridges despite having gone through a full stack of printer paper. Not only was it fairly easy to set up, but it works so nicely as a scanner, and copier. It makes my life so easy for school; I can simply scan my documents in and download as a pdf right onto my laptop wirelessly. When you're setting it up, don't be one of those angry people who gets frustrated because the printer doesn't just magically work - read the instructions, follow the prompts, and you'll be fine. My partner and I had some back and forth regarding what kind of printer to get, cheap or nice, and I am so glad I chose this one because I feel I did not need to compromise quality for price. ... show more

  • Use iPrint&Scan app for USB. Otherwise, perfect home office printer
Style: Current Model: MFCJ4355DW Pattern Name: New
After almost 13 years my printer died. Research showed this was one of the best bangs for your buck for long term. Box was twice as big as printer but has handles. Printer setup via wifi fine. For USB it was a little bit of a pain, but my recommendation is to download the Brother iPrint&Scan app. The EasyInstall app never worked but as soon as I used the other, it recognized USB. I wanted both installed in case I lost WiFi. Prints fast. Scans well. And there's no belt driven ink like older printers so no matter what you can just open the door and replace inks at any time ... show more

  • Update: 8 months of ownership, and it's already a useless piece of junk.
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ4335DW Pattern Name: New
Update: I've only had this printer for 8 months and it is a useless piece of junk. I've spent hours on the phone with Brother support, wasted gallons of ink "cleaning" it, and the print quality only gets worse and worse. I'm done with this thing and never buying another Brother product. This is ridiculous. My next step is to compel Brother to honor their warranty. After 12 years of hard service and expensive ink, I retired my HP printer and tried this Brother. Here are my first impressions: The Misses: 1. I hate the 1980s grey plastic design. It looks like crap on my desk, particularly since all the rest of my computing equipment is black, but I was buying for functionality, not style, I guess. 2. I have postage stamps that are bigger than the LED display on this thing. It's not easy to see and you have to scroll down to see some of the messages the machine is providing. 3. The set up is kind of clunky and involved compared to other printers. Some set up is done on the machine, other parts are done by going to the Brother website where you have to figure out where to go to download the drivers. I was looking for something on the website home page that said "set up your printer here", but instead you have to hunt around. 4. During the set up process, it asks to download several ancillary services. These are not well explained, and I may have inadvertently downloaded annoying bloatware. We'll find out. 5. If you are considering printing photos with this machine, just stop and move on to something else. My HP was far better. The photos are crisp, but the Brother interprets certain colors in bizarre ways. For example, white tents are rendered in light blue. Looks very strange compared to the actual photo. 6. The power cord on this is ridiculously short compared to my HP, and I pretty much had to change my entire desk set up to stretch the cord far enough to reach my power strip. 7. It wouldn't kill Brother to give you a printer cord if you want a wired connection. Fortunately, I was able to reuse my HP cord THAT CAME WITH THE MACHINE. The Hits: 1. Printing a standard page of text with an illustration or two is lightning fast. I've never seen an inkjet as fast as this. 2. Standard printed text is very sharp. 3. It's more compact than my old HP All in One, mostly because the paper tray doesn't stick out an extra 5 inches on the side. 4. It is much quieter than the HP, which would go through a lot of noisy gyrations just get itself prepared to print. I'm not sure I did the right thing in buying this printer. I wanted to be thrilled, but so far I am not. ... show more

  • Just received it & hooked it up quite easily.
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ4335DW Pattern Name: Renewed (Refurbished)
I only just got this yesterday & have it hooked up & working quite easily. Even tho all the negative reviews on ALL printers currently have lots of various problems, & so NONE of them sounded worthwhile. In fact this is now my 3rd printer brand in less that a year. Not that any of them quit working or broke, but they were just so DARN frustrating & totally non-user-friendly! :-((( ALL brands now have these ridiculously TINY display screens. And it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to find what one is looking for. I hate there are now NO printed manuals. Ya hafta go online...find the correct site....find one's model number...comb thru pages to find where the manual is....Gone are the days of "Plug & Play", & nice paper manuals one could dog-ear, etc & find things in an instant....& that's not even mentioning about how things used to last, well, like MANY years...thus our now "Built-in Obsolescence"...gotta feed that ole "corporate bottom line"...... But I digress!!! ... This is supposed to be about this BROTHER printer. I did google "reliable printers", & one choice was to go to PCMag. Which chose this one, tho it also had the usual neg. stuff. But the big click for me was the fact that it has this VERY nice, user-friendly functioning display working panel which is quite self-explanatory. Much of the input is done there & then there is the usual very small screen, but that then displays additional prompts, info, & instructions as to how to navigate whatever it is one needs to do. It starts out with the basic Set-Up demo & instructions, & tell which other buttons to press next on the 'working' panel to advance, etc., with one's process. I was even able to hook up wirelessly without much difficulty. I made a goof up of my own doing which slowed me down a little, but easily got back on track. It prints quickly & with nice results in color when used. So overall, I'm pleased...well this is only Day One!...but it does feel like a much better start than I had with the other two I tried. I'll try to remember to update in a few months.....'the proof is in the pudding'! ... show more

  • Great printer
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ4335DW Pattern Name: New
I waited for a month or two before I reviewed this. Scans: I use scans for work and need a scanner that can easily handle multiple pages. This scans a lot of pages- which is great. I used the feeder (and I also downloaded the software from the website). I use the program to scan. It is fabulous. I scanned a 25 page document easily and saved as a pdf to my computer. This is a huge plus because many scanners don't work well with multiple pages. The output was clear and it scanned it quickly. I do have to own up to my first scan being blank as I had the pages turned the wrong way for the feeder (it scanned the backs). Maybe I was in a rush, or I read it wrong-but it took me a second try to figure that out... so if you are using the document feeder make sure you scan the documents with the pages faced in the right direction. I have an older brother at work. You can scan it directly from the printer to the laptop because it is connected via a printer cable. I didn't set that up here, so I had to use the program to do it wirelessly which was very simple (after I did it a first time- see above). It was so easy that I decided to forgo the expense of the printer cable and just use the laptop to originate the scans wirelessly. Copy: This take copies from the glass and from the document feeder. It holds a lot of pages and it copies them quickly and clearly. I was very happy with the ADF because I copy larger documents and this poses problems for many personal printers. The glass was also very easy to copy from and it is clearly marked for orientation. My former computer was a pain because it was not very clear and I had to remember to place it against the right vs. the left. Print: Love this printer, it is fast and clear. The colors are deep and the printer easily and automatically prints (wirelessly) out my papers. I usually print out documents about 20 pages so this handled that well. I didn't have to wait a long time and my ink is still at full..... Overall I am very happy with this printer. My other printer would always give me issues when I needed to print in terms of connectivity and it would take several attempts and a lot of aggravation to print a something. This printer is a blessing in that area. It automatically connects to my computer, even after I haven't used it for a week, and prints it out quietly, quickly and clearly. It is smaller than my previous printer and it is quiet. I recommend you download the software but it is a big file(s) so it takes up memory (as a programmer I watch that load of the programs). I use the program for wireless scanning, but if you are not a big scanner than you could probably avoid it. I recommend this printer. I think it has a lot of functionality for the price-most of which I do not use-- but more importantly it works as it is supposed to - when it is supposed to. That is a big change from my former Cannon- which did what it wanted, when it wanted and took forever. ... show more

Style: Current Model: MFCJ4355DW Pattern Name: New
Easy to set up. Works great with my Dell computer. Remote printing from my phone works great. Won’t go back to another hewlet packard nothing but problems especially if you use a different brand printer and ink. Even bought a an hp printer and it was nothing but a headache in plastic box. The Brother is a good bang for the buck and so far the reliability is great. Paper capacity is good for what I need it for. ... show more

  • Blows away Canon printers on speed, quality of print, setup apps and software is top notch.
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ4335DW Pattern Name: Renewed (Refurbished)
The speed of this printer is unreal. It prints on both sides of one page printing in less time than most other printers take to print for one side one page only. Also print time is quick when you hit the print button, it prints right away. I noticed my Canon would take a minute to print, to even start printing and got slower and slower over time. The real difference of this Brother printer from other printers is night and day. Its like going from a Yugo car to a Lamborghini race car. The quality of the software bundled with this printer is excellent, it even resizes email pages for you and properly makes page fonts bigger zoomed in, the software resizes everything to fit in the printable area. With Canon this was not available. Also Canon ink tank system failed on color, only black would print. No matter how much cleaning. Canon printer failed in one year time. Brand new Canon never worked right. We'll see how long this printer lasts, but it already sounds much stronger and faster in scanning, printing and setup time to connect to WIFI. Doesnt have the issues during operation. It works smoothly, and Not slow at all. Warning your WIFI router may need to be rebooted in order to recognize this printer on your wireless network setup on app, for your WIFI. Any computer, phone and tablet can print out stuff if you have the Brother app. I could never get the Canon WIFI network printer to work. And I have been a computer programmer for decades. Brother was a little tuff to setup on WIFI only because my router needed resetting to recognize the new Brother printer. But once you set this up it works flawlessly. Unlike other printers. ... show more

  • Truly bad design...who prints on their knees?
Style: Current Model: MFCJ4355DW Pattern Name: New
A real let down. This was purchased to replace an HP envy, which I had for many years, but is no longer manufactured. It originally cost less than half of this Brother printer. Price was not considered, I just wanted a decent printer. This is not it. Set up was a bear. First off: "Set up with your computer (Windows only)" What? WHAT??? Are you flippin' kidding me? So to heck with anyone on a MAC? After over half an hour trying all their alternative methods, none of which worked, I asked Chatgpt. "Oh, that's Brother just being quirky. [NOT the adjective I used may times!] Just go to system settings and add printer." That worked. The technician who wrote the directions should not. At least not in tech. Then, "The ADF [auto document feed] is not available." I was never able to get ADF to be available. I can't find an 800 number yet for tech support. but I was setting up on a Sunday, so maybe it has office hours. Then, my HP printer's tray slid out to catch the printed paper. Brother's does not, casually dropping the papers on the floor, unless you permanently keep the tray sticking out (in the way) all the time. Inconvenient, but not a disaster. Just bad design. Then the control panel, unlike the HP, is not lighted. The 1.8" window is, the buttons are not. Have a flashlight handy and magnifying glass, the buttons are tiny. But...here's another tech who should find more suitable work...the control panel is not angled for convenient vision. It is vertical. Desk height. Do the geometry. So all those under 4' tall, this is ideal for you! The rest of us, bend over. Far. And squint. I do not give bad reviews unfairly. This is just badly designed, and an instruction sheet that is wrong automatically gets one star. (Manufacturers, read and test your d...n materials!) Finally found an 800 number, then on hold for a half hour until I was just disconnected. I can't yet comment on longevity, but you may want to prepare for some really bad design and incorrect setup instructions. After 2 days of this frustration - ADF never would work - this is going back. ... show more
