I did a lot of comparing machines before I purchased this Brother. I was used to sewing on a very large sophisticated, expensive sewing/embroidery machine. The machine has now become too heavy for me to lift to put on my kitchen table where I have to sew. When I received my new Brother I was in the middle of a project and decided to start sewing with it immediately. The directions were very clear and the longer I sewed the more functions I was able to use. This machine is unbelievable for the price and quality. I am an experienced sewer and this machine has the bells and whistles that you would find on a much more expensive machine. It is lightweight and can easily be moved off of the table and stored while not in use. The up and down needle position button is great. I have used this machine a lot and have not found one negative yet. I highly recommend this machine to a beginner or advanced sewer. ... show more

This machine is pretty good but does not compare to my previous Brother machine. It works fine but the needle threader is very hard to use. Also, it doesn't alert you when you run out of thread either top or bottom. You just keep sewing along and wasting your time without any thread. It does beep in reverse like a truck does, I don't know why it has that feature. If my finger is on the reverse button I know it is going backwards. It is light enough to carry around but heavy enough to stay steady on the table. The trouble shooting guide isn't much help. ... show more
