  • Stellar!
I've tried two of the Bristol by Blueridge guitars now. Both came perfectly setup right out of the box. In fact, after playing bass and guitar for over 20 years, I have never seen instruments that come with such laser straight necks right out of the box ready to play with no fret buzz and a good moderate-low action. I bought the last folk sized solid top mahogany (BF-15s) that Amazon had, and it wasn't even supposed to come with a gig bag. When I emailed Bristol, they rushed me out one for free since the newer laminate top models got one. Amazing service! The person that said it feels cheap is a fool. The scalloped bracing inside is almost overbuilt for a small #OOO sized guitar, and the folk guitar is equally well built. The preamp isn't great, but at the price I paid, it was like getting it thrown in for free. Plus on a night when I'm drinking a little whisky, I can throw on Amplitube on the computer and play with some weird effects. Again, the necks come unbelievably well done on the two I got, and for reference I sent back two Washburn Harvest models at $400 that were junk in comparison. The tone on the solid top 23.5" scale folk is punchy with quick decay and more bass than the Washburn Grand Auditorium which surprized me. I assumed bigger body with better solid top would mean more bass, but nope. This #000 is just a little shallower than a Washburn Grand Auditorium, but with a typical guitar scale. Compared with the spruce top Washburn, it is more balanced, though I prefer a slightly sparklier treble-boosted tone like the spruce Washburn, but then again Washburn couldn't make a playable guitar with two I tried while Bristol batted 100% on two guitars, and I paid as much for both as the Washburn cost. Don't let the laminate scare you too much. The #000 mahogany laminate is sparklier than the solid top mahogany folk. If you want that treble boosted Taylor sound, this isn't for you. If you like the warmer Martin sound, then this is a hell of a guitar when it is on sale. The gig bag is comes with is modestly padded, but it uses a good denier of nylon. It is worth roughly $40 alone. I have only very minor complaints - a minor scratch down by the bridge side strap retainer (UPS and Amazon's fault), one more adhesive wire retainer inside for the bridge pickup would be nice, and the Fishman preamp is not a great sounding unit. If you catch it on sale, it is maybe the best budget acoustic available. The biggest reason to pass would be saving a little more up for a Yamaha at the $360 range. ... show more

  • Great value
Bought this on the recommendation of a musician friend who said it was an incredible value. Sounds full and clear acoustically and once I figured out how to set the controls on the pickup inside the guitar, it sounds okay amplified. The description on Amazon said it had an onboard tuner, but it does not. The wood grain is a little too striped for my taste but otherwise the appearance is decent for a laminate guitar in this price range. Great sound for an instrument of this size and price. ... show more
