This is a really fun piece, but it was my first piece in the smart tech collection, even before the smart tech train engine, so I wasn't quite sure how it worked. I didn't realize that it wasn't the piece that made the sound, but I needed to get the engine. I looked everywhere for a battery cover and couldn't find one, and then decided to read the directions. Always read the directions. Things aren't always as simple as they may seem, or sometimes they're even more simple than we try to make them, which is the case here. I already planned to buy the smart tech engine, so it wasn't a big deal, I was just kind of bummed that we couldn't hear the sounds because we didn't have it. That was my bad, and I admit it.
