Description

5 speed settings make this juicer more versatile, with lower speeds for softer fruits and leafy green vegetables and higher speeds to maximize extraction from dense foods such as apples and carrots. The Breville BJE510 Juice Fountain Multi-Speed with variable speeds is a smart juicer that adjusts speed to extract the maximum juice with minimal waste. A built-in smart chip increases power to the cutting disc under heavy loads so juicing is accomplished as efficiently as possible.Juicing Versatility and PowerFruit is largely composed of water, but its selling point is its nutritional value. How do you extract the juice from fruit, without leaving the nutrients behind? Breville’s Nutri Disc and patented juicing system extracts more nutrients than other juicers and transfers less than 1.8F of heat to protect enzymes and maximize nutrient absorption of select nutrients. The 900 watt motor has speeds ranging from 6500 rpm for softer fruits and leafy greens like cantaloupe or spinach to 12500 rpm for maximum extraction from denser foods like apples or beets. A smart chip allows the juicer to sense the load and adjust power accordingly, making juicing more efficient. The uniquely designed juicing system features an extra- wide feed chute that is centered over the shredding disc. This allows for more efficient juicing than systems that introduce ingredients on the side of the shredding disc. The 3" chute eliminates the need to pre-chop ingredients before feeding them into the juicer, saving you time.Nutri Disc with titanium- reinforced blades shreds both hard and soft fruits and vegetables with ease The 900 watt, high-grade 5 speed motor features a built-in electronic smart chip that increases power to the cutting disc under heavy loads. As a result, the filter extracts more juice and can make an 8 oz. glass in just 5 seconds.Product features:Heavy-duty 900 watt motor with variable speed control from 6,500rpm to 12,000rpm: 5 speed selector with LCD juicing speed guide to help maximize juice extractionPatented extra-wide feed chute (3” wide): juice large fruits and vegetables with little to no cutting or preparationPatented direct central feed system for maximum juice extractionNutri Disc with titanium reinforced cutting blades, which ensures the blades stay sharper for longer, and stainless steel mesh filter basket for spinning out the pulpNoise and vibration control: patented unique direct central feed system, which centers the chute over the Nutri Disc to minimize vibration and noiseHeavy grade polymer body for durabilityPremium materials combining high grade stainless steel and die-cast alloy for durability. • The "Lexus" of juicers
We owned a refurbished Waring JEX328 juicer for about two years and my wife used it to make juice for our children and me almost every day. It held up fairly well and we paid almost nothing for it at the time (around 30 bucks, I think), but it finally cratered a couple of weeks ago. We debated for a while whether or not to replace it with this Breville model or the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro. We finally decided on this one because it had so many five star ratings and because it is an appliance we use so often, thus we thought it made sense to get the best one we could find, even with its steeper price. While I can't compare it to the Hamilton Beach model, I can compare it to the Waring model, and it beats the Waring model hands down. As soon as you unpack the Breville you know you have a top quality piece of equipment. It does an outstanding job at juice extraction (the pulp is dryer than what the Waring produced, and the Waring actually did pretty well) and the clean-up is far easier. When cleaning the Waring, you had pulp caked up within the machine itself and it was a pain to clean it out, partially becaused it had a higher moisture content but also simply because of all of the nooks and crannies in this catchment section of the juicer. Although this section detached, it was still difficult to clean nonetheless . The Breville puts the pulp in a separate container off to the side, and as others have mentioned, if you line it with a plastic bag there is nothing to it. The only "pain" is cleaing the filter device, which is going to be difficult with any juicer you buy. The brush they provide does make this a little easier, however. Now for the biggest difference: the noise produced when the machine is turned on. With the Waring, you had to pause the television, stop talking, cover your ears, and hope the neighbors didn't phone the cops on you for disturbing the peace. The Breville is FAR quieter. Don't get me wrong, it is not "whisper quiet" or anything like that, but it probably makes one third of the noise the Waring did. Is it worth the higher price as compared to the Waring or Hamilton Beach? Hard to say. Like I mentioned, we got the Waring for practically nothing and it was a good introductory machine for us for juicing, but SO LOUD! I can't really find any flaws with the Breville at all (we have run it for about a week now). Considering, however, that it costs almost three times what you can get the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro for (I would chose this one over the Waring purely from my experience with it and from reading the reviews for the Hamilton), whether or not you want to go with this "ultra juicer" version boils down to sheer personal preference. How often you will run it and what variety of recipies you might want to put through it should probably be your driving factors, along side the price difference, of course. The main differences I found with the Breville as compared to the Hamilton were a slightly higher wattage (900 versus 800) and the variable speeds instead of only one, single speed. From our perspective, though, we have had no regrets in spending the extra cash for this top model. EDIT 08/05/08: Just thought I would mention that since this review we bought the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro as a gift for my wife's mother, so we had a chance to directly compare it to the Breville. It did a good job, but it was louder and not nearly as solidly built as the Breville. After this comparision, we are even more satisfied with our decision to spend a bit extra and get this model. The varible speed on the Breville is something you will definitely miss should you go back to a model that does not have this feature. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Great First Juicer!
After getting interested in the benefits of juicing last year I spent a few hours reviewing several customers comments on various juicers and finally settled on this one. As a novice juicer I wanted a product that was easy to use and durable. This is my experience: Juicing the first time I made the mistake of not peeling the skins off of any fruits nor taking seeds out. My first juice which consisted of red/green apples, lemons, kiwis, kale and carrots (all organic) came out delicious but the texture was a bit "fuzzy". Regardless, I didn't care as the benefits for what I was going through were immediate and the pros outweighed the cons. An invaluable lesson I learned was that I must stop my juicing and clean out the lid as the pulp from all the fruits/veggies tends to clump up at the top and inhibits the optimal performance in extracting juice from more fruits/veggies. The Breville Juicer comes with a small pitcher that fits onto the output spout. Once I have filled it I know it's time to clean out the top. Turn off, unplug, detach top, scoop out pulp, replace top, plug in, turn on and continue (30 seconds). I have also started to take seeds out of apples and peel most of the skins off of citrus fruits and veggies like cucumbers. Even though I still get a bubbly layer of pulp on the top, making it look like a strange oil and vinegar mixture, I leave it there and just shake it before I pour adding to the overall nutrition. The best tips I can give are buy organic fruits/veggies. They really do make a difference and being a skeptic I have proven a lot to myself by being my own guinea pig. Next, beware of flying produce! Especially if you have children that are keen to assist. Make sure their faces are NEVER over the intake as I have had a couple pieces of apple and some blueberries fly out. This could easily take out an eye so always use caution and stick to the manufacturers directions such as turning on the unit prior to putting food into it. Last but not least, I ALWAYS clean my juicer right after I am done. It comes with a nifty black brush that has a handle for scooping out pulp. Thus far I have only used hot water and a very small amount of biodegradable dish soap. Clean it, pop the parts in the dish strainer and you're good to go, ready for the next time. The blade/mesh piece clean up well but again, beware of the sharp center. I tapped it out with my fingers one day and received a couple nice little cuts but nothing too horrifying. I wouldn't recommend allowing children under 12 to clean this part if they want to help as it is VERY SHARP. When I first encountered this Breville model it was $50 cheaper than when I bought it but since I was researching juicers for several weeks and it's in my nature to be frugal, I didn't mind the increase. However, I would not have paid more than I did for it. All in all I am very pleased with this purchase. It is made well and works well as long as you take the proper measures and precautions. • "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" juicers
My husband and I watched the movie Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead in early February (it's currently on Netflix, Hulu Plus AND Amazon Instant Video). Before the night was over, we were researching juicers, to help our bodies detox (which some call a "body reboot", for good reason), and to hopefully lose a little weight, too. We decided on the Breville Ikon. The whole watching movie = buying an appliance neither of us had ever wanted before was truly bizarre, considering I thought the documentary was about fat wrestlers trying to lose weight when I first put the movie on. (I love movies like that!) I'm glad I didn't read the synopsis well, because we may not have watched what turned out to be a life-changing movie for us. In 6 week's time, we've used the Ikon 120-140 times (3-4 times a day for 4 weeks, and still 1-2 times a day since.) It's a minor pain to wash, but only because we've done it SO. MANY. TIMES. in 6 weeks. I've had every part but the main body through the dishwasher a few times (top shelf), but usually we wash the parts by hand. They clean easily, especially if you do it right after making a juice. We've had no issues with the juicer itself, nor anything we've put in the juicer, from whole sweet potatoes to carrots to cauliflower to collard greens. I've seen only a few tiny bits of green (probably spinach) make it into drinks on occasion; I've yet to see a seed in a juice, even from a strawberry or kiwi. The only things we don't put through it are bananas and avocados, because I've read they just turn into a mushy pulp and don't juice well (but they BLEND into juices nicely!) PROS Easy to use. Juices FAST (speed and froth is considered a con by some, but if it wasn't fast like it is, I wouldn't use it daily) 3"-wide mouth allows you to fit large things in with little or no prep Cleanup is fast and relatively painless Not incredibly loud -- I'd say it's vacuum cleaner-loud. It's on such a short time it doesn't matter. Makes LOTS of juice for the amount of produce you put in. This morning, the first 2 oranges I threw in (no peel) made 9-10 oz of juice. Most importantly, it will give you the ability to make possibly the healthiest drinks you'll ever have. Even my son (age 12) has had one every morning since the juicer arrived. I wouldn't have believed it two months ago had you told me he'd be eager to have drinks made of kale, spinach, carrots, plus a bunch of fruity goodness. The breakfast drinks have turned a house of grouches into morning people -- and that's without coffee!!! CONS (but not really) The price. Looks like it's wavered between $199-$299 on Amazon...keep an eye out for the lower prices. We got ours as an Amazon "Warehouse Deal" (see tiny link at bottom of page). It was $184 because there was a dent in the box. Product was perfect. But here's the thing. The price really shouldn't be a con. If you get a sub-par juicer, you'll be putting a LOT more produce through it to make the same amount of juice the higher end ones make with less. This means a LOT more produce to buy ($$), a LOT more prep work (more veggies/fruits to clean, cut, peel, etc.), and a lot more clean up. If you plan on actually using a juicer, spend more up front to save a lot in a short amount of time. How did our detox/weight loss go? In four weeks of solely juicing I lost 18 pounds; in just two weeks my husband lost 19 pounds (figures!) My migraines have disappeared, my husband's snoring has entirely stopped, and our serious caffeine addictions are gone. I've had this annoying ringing sound in my right ear for months...it disappeared around the second week, and has not returned. Our energy is through the roof - in general AND during workouts. The day after we stopped the full detox/juice fast we both gained a few pounds back (which is completely expected and understandable). Weeks later we're still down all the weight but those few pounds. What's more, we still feel great and haven't 'regained' any bad habits. We both still have at least a juice a day, and we'll definitely both do an occasional reboot as needed. What drug, pill, powder, diet has EVER done that for anyone, without side effects? Veggies and fruits rock! UPDATE 4/29/12 My husband and I are still doing very well, and still juice at least once a day. We're still only a few pounds up, a month after our detox. But the detox/juice feast/fast felt so good the first time around, we've decided to do a second, starting tomorrow. The reason for the update, actually, is to comment on my 12-year old son. He's still having a juice every morning before school -- often with a hard boiled egg on the side. He weighs himself daily, and tonight he told me he's lost 5 pounds in the last 2 months! • juicing made easy
i recently started making juice from scratch by purchasing the breville ikon 900-w and was pleasurably surprised by the ease and power of this product. the product is very easy to use from removing the breville from the box to making your first refreshing glass of juice. i researched a few other juicers before purchasing the breville and after using the breville i can understand some of the critiques of the other juicers - for example, i saw the jack lalanne juicer in a store and the reviews stated it was to large, trust me, it is. also, i would strongly recommend you know what you would like to juice. the breville is great for juicing solid vegetables and fruits like carrots and apples but if you are going to do mainly soft fruits (oranges and grapes)i would go with a juicer vs a juice extractor like the breville. however, if you need a juice extractor the breville has the power (very important), ease, and appliance style. the breville 900-w is very easy to clean - i make a pitcher of carrot, apple and sometime pear juice in the morning and it takes me approx 15 minutes from start to clean up for a full pitcher. the hardest thing to clean the the grinder screen what separates the juice from the fruit or vegetable. lastly, the breville is very cool looking as a kitchen appliance. its sleek silver design will go well with your other appliances and has the wow factor. my juice extractor cost around $180 plus $5 for shipping and handling - i thought this was more than a fair price for what you get. i live in chicago and it was delivered in two days if you choose the breville you will not be disappointed - happy juicing ... show more

  • Life Changing Device
In my personal experince this device helped change my life. I saw the Fat, Sick and Nearly Death documentary and decided to give juicing a try. Although my case wasnt as dramatic as Joe's case or Phil's case who both were well over 150 pounds or so overweight, it still helped me to improve on my overall condition. I had 57 pounds of overweight in comparison to my "healthy" wieght but that is not as dramatic as 150 or as having a terrible rash over my body or any other condition whatsoever as they did yet i decided after watching the documentary to began doing something in order to prevent getting to that point. Its been a month now since I began jucing using this fabulous machine and i have droped 17 pounds and I dont even do it as radical as they did, ,meaning that i dont juice 3 times or more a day. I drink one juice for breakfast and one for dinner, for lunch i eat vegetables raw with nothing else (no dressings, no cruttons, no cheese no nothing over them) just a slight spray of olive oil ( I use a Misto for this) and a very little pinch of salt and for snack three times a day I eat nuts or seeds (pumpkin, unsalted sunflower kernels) and that is all. I was a food guzzler use to eat like a beast, eventhough i have always liked vegetables i also loved everything else too so whenever i went to a buffet i ate a plate or two of vegetables or salads but then eat the next six (yeah, 6) plates of everything else including pasta, and any type of meat available plus two dessert plates. You just read right 10 total plates at any buffet i went, so if i was able to change, anyone can. I must admit that i have the advantage of not getting tired of the same taste easily which allowed my to stick to my same veggie rutine and not getting tired of it, I understand that some people need variety in life, so for that there are many books out there that have multiple juice and salads recipes pick any with satisfactory ratings, beleive me i dont crave greasy or heavy food at least for the last month and i was a fried stuff heavy eater. As for the technical part, there are many many other insightfull reviews made by other people more picky than me so you can read those for that purpose. All i can say is that the machine is very sturdy I use it every day and for the last 30 days it has withstood very well the workload. Easy to use easy to clean, and makes a lot of juice out of your produce meaning that the pulp out is very dry once you finish making your juice. In case that the pulp comes out a little bit wet, which happens from time to time, simply recover that pulp and pass it a second time thru the machine, that has worked great for me and it was a recomendation made by Joe on his book, which i bought here also in the Kinddle version for just $9. Sorry that i didnt went too technical just wanted to share my personal experience with it. If you want to begin a jucing regime and never have done such a thing and dont know where to start, see the documentary first and Joe (the guy from the documentary) has a couple of books all with good tips and recipes so pick one and follow his advise. ... show more

  • Excellent Product
In fairness we have only had this Breville BJES10XL one day and it replaces an older Omega 1000. Obviously I can't address the longevity of the Breville. The Omega would never break but we essentially had stopped using it because of the vibration and slowness to juice. The Breville is just an awesome product. The parts are perfectly fitted. It is made in China but I could find no flaw whatsoever and in fact it just looks overbuilt. We really enjoy the multiple speeds and one surprise for me was that it doesn't just have speeds 1 to 5 but there are micro clicks between. I think the key to proper juicing is to have the right speed for the vegetable you are juicing. What a difference over the Omega which simply had an on/off switch. I think I would prefer this Breville to the ones with two speeds. The speed on this model is essentially infinitely controllable. The noise level to me was very acceptable but in full disclosure I flew jets so my hearing isn't all that great. We made apple juice as fast as I have ever seen it made. The feed opening must be twice of the Omega. We had large red delicious apples and found it necessary to quarter them. Awesome. Can't wait to try other varieties of apples. We made carrot juice. Fast and in my opinion the pulp was dry enough that there was no juice left in it. We made a vegetable drink with: carrots, tomato, celery, and non-peeled cucumber. Reading the directions and setting the speeds at the recommended speeds for the type of vegetable worked perfectly. The quality of the drink was superb and makes me never want to ever drink a processed juice again. This machine is attractive for an appliance. Virtually no vibration whereas the older Omega always wanted to jump around and you would end up shutting down and cleaning it so you could juice more since the pulp was maintained within the machine instead of being thrown out like the Breville. We did stick a produce bag in the pulp holding receptacle which made clean up of that part non existent. Cleaning of the other parts was very easy although there is time consumed. The wire screen is extremely fine so there is no way you are getting anything but juice into your glass or container. The supplied container is just very cool and holds about 40 ounces. When I put a regular tall glass under the little rubber discharge chute that worked great until the glass was 3/4 full and then you get some splash over simply because the juice is coming out fast and with force. The supplied container with the lid is probably going to be our first choice and has the added advantage that if you make a lot you can simply put the container in the refrigerator until you drink it. Most of the juice experts seem to think you should drink fresh juice within a couple of hours. Bottom line: best juicer I have ever personally seen. You will spend more time preparing the vegetables for juicing and cleaning up than you will juicing. Juicing is actually fun and there is no need to rush the plunger down. It is effortless. ... show more

  • Perfect
The Perfect Juicer I spent weeks researching Juicers and reading reviews before making this decision. I'm a first time juicer and I've been juicing only 4 days now, 3 times a day. What a pleasure. I can juice hard fruits and veggies like Pineapple with the skin, whole apples, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets etc. as well as the soft like grapes, peeled oranges, berries and leafy greens too. Clean up is a breeze, no problems, fast and easy. A few minutes of simple dissasembly and rinse out in the sink. I don't even bother putting it in the dishwasher it is so fast and easy and I use it so often throughout my day. I was worried over some of the bad reviews I have read about this and many other juicers. I think if you are undecided, forget the whiney people who aren't happy unless they can find a minor fault and blow it out of proportion. Some people just like to write reviews to complain. Others, you can tell the ones, are sincere and trying to help and have good input but don't let yourself get caught up in the over abundance of information either. Realistically, this is a great product. This is my first juicer so I have nothing by which to compare it. I may have been able to save some money and get a less expensive model but I am VERY happy with this purchase and glad I made it. Dry pulp, large quantity of juice per item juiced (I was surprised at the amount), handy pitcher with measure and froth skimmer (for those picky people who don't like juice froth), no drip nozzle if you don't want to use the pitcher (I use the pitcher to avoid sprayover in a glass as juice comes out fast and the breeze can spray juice on to the counter). Fast delivery through Amazon, great customer service and an overall wonderful experience. I look forward to juicing continuously in the future and will let you know if there are any long term juicing machine problems others have encountered. ... show more

  • An ok juicer with a few flaws
I really like this juicer, but it has a few things it doesn't do well. First, the good stuff: The juicer is quieter than I was lead to believe by other reviewers. It doesn't sound like a jet engine revving for takeoff. On most fruits and veggies, it extracts a great deal of juice (more than you would expect). Cleaning it is a breeze, especially if you have a high pressure sprayer at your sink. The plug is a marvel of engineering: the finger hole makes it easy to unplug, and one isn't tempted to grab the cord and yank. Celery, carrots, beets, broccoli, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, parsnips, cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squash, strawberries, pineapple, melons, lemons, limes, oranges, apples, pears, grapes: all produce a ton of juice. The juicer is fast as well. It takes longer to prep the foods to be juiced than it does to actually juice them. The pulp bin is easily lined with the bags you put produce in at the grocery store. If you juice a lot, you will appreciate the time you save lining that bin with one of those plastic bags. The pitcher does a FAIR job of removing pulp. Now, the not-so-good: This juicer produces a LOT of foam. Compared to my Omega 1000 centrifugal, the Breville makes three times as much. Kale, garlic, parsley, ginger, arugula: these produce very little juice in this juicer. In the Omega, one clove of garlic would strongly flavor a juice. With the Breville, it takes 4 to get the same result, and the cloves must be surrounded by something (like a big wad of greens) or they just get spit into the pulp bin. Ginger isn't much better: it takes 3X as much to achieve the same effect as in the Omega. Leafy greens such as parsley and kale don't do as well in the Breville as they do in the Omega, producing half the amount of juice. HOWEVER, if you REALLY want to get the most juice out of those leafy greens, you need a masticating, low rpm juicer like our Green Power Gold twin gear. You will pay almost 3X as much for that juicer, and the Breville beats it hands down on soft fruit and even hard fruits and veggies. I am not comparing the Breville to the Green Power. That wouldn't be a fair comparison. It would be like saying that your Ferrari goes faster than my dump truck. True enough, but I can carry 3 ton of whatever in the dump truck, and you can't even fit a suitcase in the Ferrari. But compared to the Omega, the Breville doesn't extract as much juice from kale, garlic, ginger and leafy greens. It does one thing WAY better than the Omega, though: you don't need to stop halfway through juicing to empty the pulp from the juicer, install a new filter and finish juicing. The Breville's pulp ejector makes it easy to overlook the decreased juice on some food types. Cleaning the juicer is easy if you perform that task immediately after juicing, before enjoying the juice. And as I mentioned, having a high-pressure sprayer attached to your sink is a godsend. The combination of the sprayer and the included brush makes cleaning the shredder/strainer basket a snap. First, spray the entire screen from the outside. Then, scrub the inside, one section at a time under running water with the brush. Finally, rinse from the outside one more time with the sprayer and everything will be clean. Last complaint: the warranty. One year is a JOKE. Every other quality juicer has a warranty of 10, 12 or 15 years. I almost didn't buy the Breville because of their one year warranty. As it is, I purchased a warranty from Square Trade to cover the juicer for 5 years. That shouldn't have been necessary. I hope this helps your decision-making process. I would definitely purchase this juicer again. The positives outweigh the minor annoyances my a wide margin. It's really a great machine. UPDATE 8/15 Am I ever glad I purchased the Square Trade warranty on this juicer. A few days ago, while juicing, I noticed that the juicer was running at a much slower than usual rpm. I looked at the display on the front of the machine, and it indicated "1" (out of 5) for speed. I turned the control all the way up, and the display went to "2" with a barely perceptible increase in rpm. I shut it down, let it cool off, restarted it, and it wouldn't go above "1." I contacted Square Trade, and they sent be a shipping label to return the juicer to them. And they are refunding the full purchase price of the juicer to me. Now, I happened to have an 80 rpm, low speed Omega juicer I bought as a backup. I opened the package, assembled it, and began using that. And what a difference. It's quiet, it extracts close to 50% more juice from the same amount of produce than the Breville, and the pulp it extracts is DRY. Pulp from the Breville is WET. I will NOT be buying another Breville. The Omega also carries a 10 year warranty, so no Square Trade warranty is necessary, I took another star off my review of the Breville, because a quality juicer should not break in 3 years. And as I previously stated, their one year warranty is a JOKE. My best advice is this: if you buy this Breville, also buy the longest Square Trade warranty you can get along with it. If your juicer breaks, you will be glad you did. ... show more
