    • Amazing coffee grinder! I'm a Breville Convert!

This grinder replaced my dearly departed Baratza Encore which worked tirelessly for me for 4 years before giving up the ghost. I was leery of switching to something different but now I am glad I did. This unit is a step up in quality, functionality and ease of use! One piece of advice: get the silicone bellows made for it and use it! This solved the only problem I had with the unit initially: that a significant amount of grinds stay in the chute after grinding. That stuff gets nasty and can spoil the next batch you make unless you clean it out. And cleaning it out with a brush is tedious, messy and wasteful. Better solution: install the bellows and give it a couple pumps after each use. The extra grinds are almost completely removed from the chute and are added to your dose where they belong! No waste. No mess. As far as the grinder itself goes, I have nothing but positive things to say. It's fast, quiet, accurate and produces consistent sized grinds. Plus it's easy to tweak +/- for any dose level you desire. AND the unit remembers all your tweaks. Very impressive. I cannot sympathize with reviewers online who spend time sifting grinds out, measuring them with calipers or looking at them under a magnifying glass. My questions were probably more like most of you: Is it easy to use and clean? Yes! Do the grinds look consistently sized by eyeball? Yes! Do the grinds look consistent from one use to the next? Yes! Can I tweak the grinds up or down in tiny increments easily? Yes! Does the coffee I make taste awesome? YES! I try not to be swayed too much by those who are over-analyzing and trying to impress you and themselves with their supposed superior senses. In reality they might just be trying to justify the $100s they dropped on grinders that produce identically tasting coffee.     • Good Bean Grinder for Espresso!

This is my second one. My first one purchased in December 2020 from the Breville Website, quit. I changed the felt washer and thought I could replace the upper and lower burr grinder assembly, and they used to be listed on the Breville website, but no longer. No parts are available for this grinder. So, I ordered a new one. Received it in 1 day. Did the routine wash, etc., plugged it it, and for the first time in 3 years I have a great pull for espresso. After about 3-4 months on the previous one, I heard a clang, thought it was a bean lodged and worked itself free, it kept grinding for 2 years afterward until one day, nothing would come out. Replaced the felt washer, which I presume needs changing frequently. They no longer have that on the Breville web site either. But, back to this one. I plugged it in, added my beans, placed the portafilter cradle onto the smart grinder pro, and it immediately used the preset settings. I did not know if they would be ok because it took major adjusting to get a cup of espresso and had to be continually adjusted all the time on my older one, but this one, it makes the perfect shot for the beans I used. This machine is easy to adjust by the way to get the shop you want and may need a tweak or two for different beans, but it does work nicely. It is really made for espresso coffee beans. It has a hopper for doing large grinding. Or, if you are making drip, or french press you can do that too. In looking at coffee web sites, they suggest higher priced bean grinders. But this one will work for me. I am not a real coffee snob. But I love my cup of nice espresso. I have the Breville Espresso Machine to go with it. It is a nice size, sets beautifully on the counter next to my machine, and Should last me for some time. Keeping it maintained is key, cleaning it out frequently is helpful to longevity. Pretty solid unit for a non commercial unit. Grounded unit with an airtight (plastic) grounds container. Consistent grind size and easy to clean (this is important so do not skip this). Grounded lower burr system with a grounded contact point on the base and container. I use a Flair Neo (manual) for my espresso maker and so do not use the other options. Easy to use interface with several ways to customize the amount of grind. Well worth the investment if you are a casual esspresso (or like me, just too cheap to buy a commercial unit), this is a great unit. ... show more
