Excellent Brake Caliper Compression Tool

I used this tool for a brake job and was really impressed with how easy it made compressing the caliper pistons. OK for the price. Not a pro quality tool.

It’s good for the price. If you are just doing brakes here and there these will do fine. It’s a little easier to use than the C-Clamps I have always used previously. It is convenient for any time you have a caliper with 2 pistons or if there is no safe place on the back of the caliper to place a C-clamp without damaging brake lines. I think the ratchet mechanism feels cheap and I expect that to be where it will eventually fail. For now it does the job though. The other limitation on this tool is the distance it is capable of spreading outward as it compresses the pistons. It was barely enough to fully compress the calipers on the Subaru Outback I was working on. The price is good so it is worth a look, but if you know you are going to beat the tool up you should invest a little more in a higher quality tool.

Great concept but poor quality. Hard to use

It is an amazing tool that makes compressing the calipers a lot easier than the old way. That said...this particular product is a little finicky and hard to work with. The ratcheting is hit and miss. You have to expand it and then force into the caliper for it to grab and spread. Buy a tool LIKE this one...but not this exact one. It is easier to use than a C-clamp, but much harder than other ones available.

Worked great!

Tool was really useful! I was able to reset the 4 piston calipers on my 02 4runner without any issues. I was going to go to a local parts store and pay significantly more and then saw this with next day delivery. So I ordered it and got the job done at a fraction of the price! For this price you can’t go wrong with this tool! You do need to tighten it by hand a little until there’s atleast a tiny bit of tension before the ratchet works but I’m sure that will be every tool like this by design. And the bigger plates it comes with are held on by some magnets, if you need to use the big plates you’ll probably want to find a way to better secure them if needed. But plates were not needed for 4 piston calipers. Big plates are probably for 8 piston or something. Pretty big.
