How many times have I ranted about moldy or dried out bread? How much money have I wasted on good bread that went bad? More than I care to admit. It's kinda like the definition of insanity: you know it'll go bad but you keep buying it because you hope it won't. And of course it does. Well not anymore. I finally got fed up and decided to see if there might be a good bread box. I knew I wanted one that was well built, durable, and functional. I knew I wanted it to look great with a matte finish because there was no way I was going to polish it. I knew I wanted to be able to stack stuff on top of it. I knew I wanted a fairly good sized one that could hold rolls, french bread, and more. Thanks to helpful reviews from other customers, I settled on the Brabantia Bread Matte Steel Finger Print Proof Bin. I laid a placemat on top and then put my Dualit 3-slice toaster (not a little gadget) on top to protect it from scratches. Plenty of room. It looks great. I love that it opens from the front so I can put my toaster on top. I love the way it looks and the quality feel to it. I especially love that my bread and tortillas stay fresh for longer. I'm not sure why people reported a problem with getting inferior product, or knock-offs. Mine was definitely genuine (with the name on the front and all), was stainless steel no-fingerprint (not chrome), sturdy (not flimsy) and well-built (no dents, everything fits together snugly). And actually a little bigger than I thought, and that, for me, was a good thing. It is a handsome adornment to my kitchen, and provides extra counter space by allowing me to use the top as a shelf, and put my bread where it belongs. I like the flip-down door, which gives full and easy access. And I think I can store a lot in there! Typically, I cut my home-baked bread in half and tip them cut-side-down (on advice of a chef who was discussing bread storage). Doing that, I'm sure I can put 4 or even 5 loaves in this box (with the back half of each loaf standing up behind the front half). I don't buy bread at the store anymore, but this will easily accommodate bread in wrappers, too. I'm very pleased. ... show more

Perfect bread box. I didn't have a lot of room on my counter and I was concerned about it fitting. It's perfect. I needed a good size to fit everything in. I never have 3-4 full size loaves but I had a full loaf of white bread, a package of six English muffins and most of a loaf of whole wheat bread (large size slices). It all fit and there was plenty of room for say more English muffins or a box of cookies. Also door does not take up a lot of room when you open it on your counter. Magnet grabs it right back when you are closing it. I love that all the clutter is finally now off my counter. It looks so much neater. Fingerprints don't show, it looks as clean as the day I put it out (two weeks ago) and I have to be honest that I have not had to clean it! I highly recommend. After reading every review about this bread box I had my concerns, especially related to denting upon delivery and the overall quality of the product. I'm happy to say that I got an authentic Brabantia bread box, unlike those who got a Home Goods version. It was shipped in an original Brabantia box and Amazon box around that, so it was delivered in perfect condition. As many people have said, it is constructed of thin gauge steel (more like "tinny" aluminum) making it very lightweight and prone to denting. If it's not full of items inside, it will slide forward as you lightly pull on the handle. I would've paid more money to get a better quality, heavier weight bread box of this same size, but no one makes it. I ordered this box due to it's capacity, and it does it hold a lot of bread. It easily holds two loaves, bagels, english muffins with space for other items. It has cleaned up my countertop nicely. As for freshness, I think it actually works. Normally a loaf of fresh bread on our counter is dry and hardened by the following day, but the 4 day loaf we have has only now become inedible. I'd say this box increased fresh bread longevity by 3 days. Overall, I am happy with this bread box primarily due to it's large capacity and overall look, but it definitely lacks durablity. The fact that it increases freshness to me is a bonus since my main objective was to clear the countertop of all the bread bag clutter. ... show more

I've been looking for a breadbox since I spent some time in Germany and used an inexpensive Ikea breadbox which is unavailable in the U.S. (why, Ikea??). I found the Brabantia options on Amazon and kept the link handy. When we started staying home a few months ago and were stocking more food in the house than normal, I finally decided to spend the money for the breadbox -- very glad that I did! It was a seamless integration into the kitchen because it looks right at home on the countertop and blends very well with the stainless appliances. It's surprisingly light but deceptively strong, and it has no problem with a bowl of loose change that sits on top along with a box of tissues. There is enough room inside for a couple loaves of bread and a package or two of buns and maybe even some bagels. We've been able to move all of the bread products from the pantry into the breadbox, freeing up shelf space for other items. I have no objective measure, but it seems to keep bread fresh and certainly doesn't speed up mold by any means. Highly recommended. ... show more
