  • So easy to use.
Color: Black
Best corker we've ever had. Still working after 5 years or so.

  • Corkscrew works very well - foil cutter needs practice
Color: Black
Have had a Brabantia trash can for 13 years and have been very impressed with quality, durability and easy use. The Brabantia corkscrew is a little different in appearance and has a different mechanism to most old school corkscrews. First time I used had trouble removing the foil and had to use my old WMF foil cutter. The corkscrew worked perfectly. Second time - got the foil cutter to work and the corkscrew worked like a charm. Only concern going forward is whether the plastic will be durable. Bought a spare to be on the safe side. ... show more

  • Good option for people who currently prefer wing-type corkscrews
Color: Black
I'm giving this one 4 stars overall. The Good: Works well to pull the cork ALL the way out of the bottle--much better than wing type corkscrews in this regard. Easy for people with limited strength (like my wife, due to arthritis) to get a cork out. The Bad: Doesn't work well to eject (unscrew) and release the cork after pulling it. It is spring-loaded to place counter tension on the cork, so the handle can be turned (in theory) counter-clockwise to "eject" the cork...great in theory, but not enough tension in practice for it to work without assistance from your thumb to put more counter-tension on the cork & it does not totally eject the cork. You have to turn the cork part way off with your hand. The Ugly: Plastic, so your guess is probably as good as mine as to longevity. Capsule/foil cutter VERY marginal. Overall, for the price, it's better than wing openers and good for those with weak hands, but my personal preference is still a good 2-step waiter's corkscrew. ... show more

  • could it be this easy?
Color: Matt Steel
I had a wingtip type ScrewPull for the past (20?) years (did it really last that long??!), and I thought that was a terrific corkscrew after only knowing the old screw in, pull down the levers-type I grew up with. The plastic fins of the ScrewPull finally broke, so it was time to buy a new one. I settled on the Brabantia after reading some reviews, and I looooooove it. In comparison to my ScrewPull, the twisting out of the screw with the Brabantia is much smoother, much easier, less of a feel of direct twisting up of the cork as you get with the ScrewPull. The plus then with the Brabantia is the cork ejection from the Brabantia is just as smooth and effortless. With the ScrewPull, I'd squeeze the cork in one hand, unscrew the ScrewPull with the other to wind out the screw. Again, a direct contact effort and feel. The Brabantia just deposits the cork back to you when you 'unwind' it. Terrific. As far as the foil cutter, if you place it on the top of your bottle, and push the cutter wheel against the bottle, it works well enough, and with a pry, you get the foil right off. It's only mildly awkward, but functional. The cork removal part alone is terrific and worth 5 stars, and with the stainless matte finish, it looks good, too! ... show more

  • Bartender Approved
Color: Matt Steel
I open at least 4 wine bottles a night and I like to be quick. I frequently cut myself w my waiter's corkscrew thus wasting even more time while I have to clean and bandage my hand. I purchased this hoping it would help and it certainly does. The corkscrew is almost completely encased so your fingers do not come into contact it. the foil opener could be better but I find that when I apply pressure on one side while turning, it works perfectly. The foil comes cleanly off. Then You position this on to the cork and twist. The cork pops right out. It stays in the corkscrew and to remove it you have to twist some more. The cork pops right out of the encasement. Very easy and much quicker than any other opener I've used. As for durability, only time will tell. I've had it for only a week. It doesn't seem hefty but considering how little pressure is placed upon it when opening a bottle, I imagine it will last a while. I carry it in my shaker along w a paring knife, bottle top opener, beer bottle popper and waiter's corkscrew (just in case. I hope I'll never neeed it.) All fit comfortably inside. ... show more

  • had one for 20 years
Color: Black
best and easiest cork opener out there. have to learn how to use the foil cutter. press the sharp edge against the foil, and turn the bottle while keeping bottle top pressed against foil. then lift off. not easy but that's not the main thing. the opener is the easiest, quickest, safest for anyone to use of any opener i have ever used. that's the genius of this opener. even kids and weaker hands can use it. simple, idiot proof, always centers on the cork. very fine product. sturdy. hard to get in retail stores. ... show more

  • The best one ever
Color: Matt Steel
January 9, 2011 I had one of these back in Belgium when I was living there. I loved it so much that I would always curse at any party where I would have to use someone's other corkscrew. One big plus that all other corkscrews always miss is the smart foil cutter. I hate using a knife and I hate even more if I have to put my reading glasses on just to figure out where to start pulling on that foil. I made the big mistake of leaving this corkscrew behind when I moved to the States, in the false assumption that it would be just as easy to find and purchase one here as it is in Belgium (they have these everywhere). Wrong move. Now I'm desperately waiting for Amazon to put the Matte Steel version back in stock (love that finish) and I hope one day they will do. Patience, patience... In the meantime I keep cursing at all the other corkscrews that end up in my hands...hopefully not for much longer. July 21, 2011 Amazon finally ended up having them in stock. Ordered one in May. Patience paid off. I'm really pleased I waited this long. This corkscrew is the best designed corkscrew in the world! ... show more
