The BOSS RC-1 is our simplest and most user-friendly Loop Station ever, and it’s a ton of fun! Since the RC-20 Loop Station was first released in 2001, BOSS has led the way by continually releasing new looping products. Though they’ve been used and enjoyed by various looping artists and performers, BOSS still pursued an easier and more affordable solution. The RC-1 is a straightforward looper that is easy to operate. Experience the fun of looping when you record, playback, overdub, and undo or redo loops using this compact BOSS stompbox. And of course, the RC-1 retains the BOSS quality and performance that musicians around the world have come to expect and rely on. On the top panel, there is a new and innovative loop indicator, which consists of a 24-segment LED laid out in a circular pattern. You can quickly and easily determine the current status of the Rec/Overdub/Play modes. With a maximum 12 minutes of stereo recording time, the RC-1 is capable of capturing any extended performance that you can create or imagine! The stereo in/out jacks can be used with stereo effects and amplifiers. Additionally, they allow you to connect stereo instruments, such as synthesizers. Other convenient features include battery and AC power, as well as flexible external footswitching capabilities. The RC-1 is an especially great partner to start enjoying looping!

Simplicity and reliability are why I love this looper. This is my first looper. It works really well, it’s so straightforward. Simple. Easy to use. Has all the inputs and output combos you would want to start experimenting with looping. It’s quality too, you could save 50% buying a cheap simple looper - don’t do it. This looper may not have a lot of features.. but its simplicity is its selling point. It can be a little confusing at first.. but once you use it for about 15 min you'll pick up on the taps and double taps and how to record, overdub, playback or erase. It's default setting is - 1 tap to start recording, 1 tap to end first record and start over dubbing, 1 tap to end over dubbing, 2 taps to stop playback and 2 taps and hold to erase all. Basically you want to tap it to start recording right on the down-beat, and tap again right when you want it to loop. It can be a little tricky getting that perfectly timed recording looped at first.. but after playing around with it it for a little bit it will become second nature. There are also different modes which are a little confusing- but if you look up a short youtube video on how to change the modes and what they do it'll be clear. They basically let you change the order of tap to record, tap to overdub, tap to end overdub to ---- tap to record, tap to end record, tap to start overdub (This is my prefered mode). Also, I've read some reviews saying you need a seperate button in order to "undo" a recording or overdub. This is NOT true. Double tap and hold will erase the entire recording.. but just a single tap and hold will "undo" the last overdub. Very helpful feature... just be careful not to accidentally erase the entire loop. And it’s not just a guitar looper. You can loop in a drum machine, keyboard, mic or MPC and loop drums or beats into this (or any instrument or digital sound producing device you can output to 1/4). A lot of possibilities and a lot of fun. Update - I stand by everything I said about this Boss RC-1, it’s great.. But after using the Boss RC-3.. I’d have to recommend the RC-3. The RC-3 is the same size but it has a tempo control (for the metronome AND it lets you time stretch or speed up your recordings and loops) and best of all... the ability to save up to 100 loops. It is $100 more expensive.. but being able to save your loops makes it worth it. The RC-1 is still a great looper- but a lot of people will probably be happier having paid that extra $100 and being able to save your loops right there in the looper. ... show more

It does exactly what I wanted it to do and more, the buttons are deceiving and they do a lot more than you think. There’s a short video on YouTube explaining. But I basically use it to shape tones.
