  • Works as expected

  • Bosch Laser Level - highly practical tool
Pattern Name: Laser Level
We are planning anapproximately 600 spft addition to our house and the architect asked me if I could do an initial survey of the contours of the area of interest. I purchased the Bosch GLL5S Cross line Laser Lrvel Self-leveling from Bosch plus a matching tripod, which made the task easy and fun. It could be a bit brighter for work in full daylight, but with the reflecting target plate I could accomplish the job in a few hours in the afternoon with an accuracy of +/- 1 - 2 inches. ... show more

  • Set it up, turn it on, and go.
Pattern Name: Laser Level
This level is: fairly intuitive to use. Though, the on/off/lock/unlock button isn't the easiest to slide. The brightness is fine for close up, inside, work. The accuracy is good and using this for location, along with a digital level to zero things in seems the best to get a prefect setup. I used it for a full kitchen cabinet install and it definitely saved time, and improved accuracy, over using bubble levels. At the $99 price that I paid, it's certainly worth it. ... show more

  • Great, Bosch quality. Good brightness for indoor use.
Pattern Name: Laser Level
We have several of these for use in an industrial setting, to align components inside of semiconductor equipment. These units are more than bright enough for indoor work at moderate distances.

  • Digital chalk line... buy it
Pattern Name: Laser Level
I can't believe it took me this long to get one of these... sure it's expensive, but it's sooooo handy. For drywall, I hit the stud 90+% of the time running in screws... now it's 100% since I can swivel this over stud to stud and run the screws on the line and NEVER miss. My cabinets use a mounting rail... I made a single reference mark on one side of the kitchen at the desired height, and this shot a line over all three walls (try that with your chalk box!). The rails are all on a perfect level, cabinets all line up at the right elevation, and when I turn the laser off, the "chalk" magically disappears (no mess! haha). I also used it to do cutout layouts on the backs of the cabinets. I measured the offsets for the penetrations, and then transferred the X and Y coordinates to the boxes. I positioned the laser to get the intersections of these marks to drill the holes and then used an oscillating saw (and hole saw for rounds) to "connect the dots" ... show more

  • You'll need some sort of tripod
Pattern Name: Laser Level
Perhaps it's obvious that a tripod is needed, but I may have chosen a different product. It's pretty accurate and light years better than some manual plumb line contraption, but it's another tool that requires another tool (sigh). Now I need to find some sort of tripod....

  • Virtual chalkline -- like having another set of hands!
Pattern Name: Laser Level
Since my kids grew up and moved out, it seems I'm always short on a second set of hands to snap a chalk line. No need anymore, as this tool works great and casts a bright line. I've used both the plumb and level lines. You need to manually position it within 4 degrees of level/plumb, and it automatically levels itself beyond that point. The laser flashes until you're within that range of 4 degrees, so it's pretty easy to get it set up. I hung it on an end wall to get a line for installing a ceiling tile grid, and it threw a line on the other three walls and even extended a bit onto the wall it was hanging on. The magnetic bracket is powerful. I put it on some galvanized ductwork, and it held firmly. I've only used it indoors. My guess is that it probably is not bright enough for outdoor use, if you have such a need. I haven't used many other laser levels, and this is the first one I've personally owned, so I don't have a good point for comparison. But for my uses, this has proven to be a great investment. ... show more

  • Not as bright as expected
Pattern Name: Laser Level
Used initially to hang drapery rods that went around a corner. Line that had to run parallel to one of the walls was not very bright, had to wait until evening to see the line properly. Easy to use and self leveling feature is very good.
