  • Bosch's Best Yet That Competes with Milwaukee and Makita.
[update 3/12/20] I really like this drill/impact combo. I've used both for a while now, and they perform amazingly. The battery life is insane, and the power is very nice as well. The drill is extremely powerful compared to others I've used in the past. I don't know if the power rating tells the full story with this drill, it's a beast. The anti-kick in the drill is a nice feature to have so you can be confident if it grabs suddenly it isn't going to hurt you. My only complaint is that Bosch doesn't include the Bluetooth chip with the kit. At this price I feel they should have included one for each tool. One defect I have noticed is that the batteries will not lock into place sometimes because of the tight fit and the clip will hang up. This can be fixed easily and might just be because the tolerances are very tight, and it's plastic rubbing against plastic. I worked that lock by hand and sprayed some Teflon spray on it and it works great now. I had the battery fall out of them a couple of times because I didn't realize it didn't lock. If you have this problem, tap the red button on the battery with something hard a few times and it will release. The plastic clip gets stuck and the button will remain depressed. This could just be a slight defect on my batteries, but I figured I'd give a heads up to anyone who purchases this set and to not fret if this happens. It's easy to fix. I think the problem is just the tight tolerances, which isn't really a bad thing because with time things should loosen up. The batteries don't jiggle around once locked onto the tools like some others I've owned in the past. Original review below.... ____________________________________________ I just purchased this set tonight at a box store that is currently selling them for $60 less than Amazon. Usually Amazon has these drill sets for less money than the home improvement stores but not this time. I've been researching which set to buy for a couple weeks now. First, I was going to buy DeWalt's best drill/impact combo because I own two Flex Volt Skill Saws (the regular and the worm drive style) and thought I might start investing into DeWalt's ecosystem. Then after some research I kept going back and forth between Makita and Milwaukee. (Keep in mind I'm looking at all the top models for each brand) I was leaning more towards Milwaukee because it has the most powerful impact driver at 2000 in-lbs. I think the Makita is 1650 and this Bosch is 1800. I watched quite a few YouTube videos demoing all the different brands and showing which impact and drill were best in each kit. Most rated the Milwaukee and Makita on top and a couple DeWalt. All close. The Bosch usually came in last in most of these tests and reviews I watched. But, this latest model doesn't appear in any YouTube videos that I could find. This new impact is more powerful than the first gen Freak. This new one is a very powerful and almost keeps up with my Ridgid Stealth Force. But I didn't expect it to sink large lags as fast as that does. I don't know what the power rating on the Ridgid Pulse driver is but that thing is the fastest driving impact/pulse I've ever seen. I've been on jobs with guys who have the other brands and it out does them all with relative ease. Anyway, back to the Bosch kit. I raced it against my Ridgid SF using a 6in 3/8 lag and it kept up very well. I drove them into a living yellow pine tree to the base, and backed them out, and the Bosch only took a few more seconds to do it. I don't drive many lags that large so it's not an issue. It does 3in screws and lags with ease. Both tools are great. I've only used them for a couple hours tonight building some shelving in my storage trailer but so far I really like them. Another thing to note is that these Core batteries do make your older Bosch drill and impact more powerful. I have a 7 year old 18v Bosch set and the impact has been a bit weak for years. The batteries do good in the drill but I noticed the impact slowly losing power for years. I put my core battery on it and I think it ran better than when it was new as far as power goes. It definitely brought new life into the tool. If I remember I'll update this review as time goes. ... show more
