  • Review from a First-Time Vita Player
There's plenty of great reviews on Amazon on this bundle, but I'll throw my 2 cents in. Let me start by saying this is my first Vita, and I had not even played, touched, or seen one IRL till the bundle came in. I was inspired to buy the bundle when FPSE (Android PSX emulator) on my Nexus 5 overheated my phone, causing it to reboot frequently till it cooled down. I wanted to love Android gaming, but it's just not up to snuff yet, and quite frankly, I still need my phone to do phone stuff and can't afford to have it crap out because I want to do some gaming. Plus, lugging around the MOGA Pro controller is not all that fun. Also, I've never played Borderlands on any console, neither 1 nor 2, so I've got a fresh perspective, which can be good or bad depending on your take. Anyways, on to the review! Vita-2000 (Vita Slim) -- for a first time Vita player, this thing is fantastic! Extremely light (I can barely tell the difference between picking up my Vita and my Nexus 5), battery life is EXTREMELY under-stated by Sony (battery has lasted me well over 7 hours and I still haven't seen a low battery warning yet), and the screen looks great! While I'm a fan of bright and snappy colors, I've never been huge on OLED screens because of the black spots that tend to pop up, so I was actually happy when I saw the Slim was coming with an LCD screen. For those who've never seen the OLED screen, you aren't missing anything as in my opinion, the screen looks phenomenal. The touchscreen is responsive, and even though I've never played a Vita before, I've had only one or two rear-touchpad accidental swipes. Those enlarged finger rests on the back are an excellent addition. Oh and Micro-USB is a GREAT addition. I can charge the Vita with any of the micro-USB cables I have lying around, and admittedly, the charger the Vita came with (with the power-brick, why is there a power-brick?!) is still in the box. One big gripe that I hope will be alleviated soon is that all peripherals are targeted towards the original Vita (which is to be expected, of course). I was dying to get the Amazon Sony-approved Case, but I've read the Vita slim is a very tight fit in that case, and I'd rather wait for a revision than risk damaging it (what irony that would be, right?). Since Sony won't be developing the OG Vita anymore, I'd imagine 3rd party peripherals will follow suit and start developing cases, grips, and screen protectors for the Vita Slim. Here's hoping that's sooner rather than later! Borderlands 2 (PS Vita) -- this game is FUN! The controls take some getting used to and you definitely have to jack the joystick sensitivity up in the options screen (8 was enough for me), but this game is great! While I normally hate cel-shaded graphics (case in point - X-Men Legends.... ARGH), they look phenomenal on the Vita screen and this game really pops. I haven't gotten far enough to notice any framerate issues, but I've seen in other reviews that they aren't show-stoppers, so I'm not concerned. I really enjoy the game's humor, and while it can be a bit tough to aim and fire with the small joysticks at first, you get used to it fast and start to have fun. I haven't tried out 2-player Co-Op but plan to as soon as I get comfortable with the game and won't embarrass myself too bad when playing with someone else :) FYI - the download can take a while, everything including the DLC is almost 6 GB, which will eat up almost all available memory. As a result, I could only download smaller Vita indie games I picked up from PS+ (Velocity Ultra, Thomas Was Alone, etc) as opposed to bigger games like MGS HD and Persona 4. No big deal though, it'll force me to concentrate on Borderlands, and employ a "beat and delete" strategy. Then I can move onto other big titles I have waiting in my download queue. Final Call - this bundle is awesome, and has made me fall in love with the Vita. I take it with me everywhere now, and it's re-invigorated my love for gaming. Having PS+ is amazing, and I don't plan on hitting up Gamestop anymore, just waiting till games either get heavily discounted or free on PSN. For those of you who currently have Vitas, I'd imagine this is a tough sell to buy another one, but for those who don't, this is a great way to get into Vita gaming. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Not only because this is a great product, but because i got exactly what was ...
With Christmas going by, i finally had enough money to grab myself a vita, and all in all, it was 100% worth the 200 dollars i spent. Despite the slow download times, and the problems with PSN even when my item arrived, It was still worth it. Not only because this is a great product, but because i got exactly what was advertised. I guess i will start off with the game....well there isn't much to say. it is literally, just borderlands 2, skimmed of all the high res textures, and put onto the vita. while that sounds all nice and dandy, i must say, that it isn't as enjoyable an experience as i might make it out to be. First, disregard what anyone says about the game running smoothly. updated to FW 3.35 (latest) on the vita, and having borderlands updated entirely, the game runs somewhat well, and let me clarify what "well" is. I'm about 12-15 hours into the game on my vita and i would say about 60% of that time i was experiencing frame rate issues dropping me to about ~18-20 (i have to estimate this because there is no way to tell the definitive FPS, but as a long standing gamer, and having played the game on multiple kinds of set ups, i'm pretty sure it is around 18-20.) and during the times it ran well, it ran at around 25-30. It isn't a huge issue, mostly because when purchasing this item and looking extensively at reviews of it and gameplay of it pre-release, i understood that the game wouldn't run perfectly, and honestly, i'm fine with that. Despite the FPS dropping around 18-20, i am still greatly enjoying it. Also, if you are thinking of waiting for it to get performance updates, the odds of that are highly unlikely. the last performance update was in July. Before i move onto the vita, i want to address that i have never touched a vita before now, so this review is based off of my first impressions and will not be hindered by the previous versions. The vita, is in my opinion, the best handheld machine of the decade. after having an original PSP and playing it so much that i broke the joystick off of it, it felt refreshing to finally have a handheld that had two joysticks, and weighed less than or equal to, an iphone 5. The vita is pretty well built. it doesn't feel like it will break by accidentally letting it fall from the couch, or drop on the floor of your car, but it does (to me) feel like, if you drop it from anywhere higher than waist length, that it will shatter, but this can easily be avoided by grabbing a case for it. Honestly, i have only 3 complaints for the vita, which in my mind, would be absolutely perfect otherwise. Firstly, the joysticks feel cheap, like they are ready to fall off at a moments notice. The front touch screen refuses to register any touches if the screen or finger is anything but absolutely 100% dry, and the triggers are somewhat lacking. All in all, i would give this review a 4.9\5 but you can't exactly do that there. so, i will just leave this with, if you are thinking of buying this, do it. you won't regret it for a second. ... show more

  • Pretty nice bundle right here but ...
Okay seeing that I didn't give a very helpful review off the bat I need to be mindful that there are actual people who need to know what others think of the product that's being considered. I will try to keep things as simple and try to share my thoughts on this product and try to recollect the impressions I had before buying this bundle and now owning it for about two weeks. I have not owned any of the previous PS Vita models but I heard that there are a few things that may be important to some but acceptable compromises for others. The first difference being that this model doesn't have an OLED screen but uses a LCD screen instead. I'm no expert on screens but I'm assuming this means that the color vibrancy and/or the brightness is less desirable than the previous model. Personally I'm okay with this change seeing how I don't know what I'm missing out on and that probably means that the screen will be easier on battery life. The second difference of note is that the charger is no longer proprietary and utilizes standard micro USB. I'm guessing this means that charging your PS Vita won't be too much of a hassle in emergency situations. There are other improvements and compromises concerning the device in question but as someone that has not owned the previous model it does not bother me at all. I'm not too wild about the main menu on the PS Vita ( I prefer the main menu the PSP had) but it works and is pretty neat. Nothing complicated ... there is the option to use the buttons instead of touching the screen for certain things EXCEPT the lock screen. I really hope I'm missing something but you have to touch the screen to unlock it and it must be done starting from the top right of the screen. I'm not sure why we can't disable this but I find it annoying especially done on something like a dedicated gaming handheld. Not to say it doesn't work but ... it feels unnatural to me. The touch screen is definitely handy for typing but it feels a little awkward. The included game is fun but if you have already played it on a console this may be an adjustment that you'll refuse to accept. For the controls I advise that you forget everything that you know about controls for this game and be prepared to start from scratch. The fact that this game is on this system is amazing but you'll see that it was one heck of an endeavor jamming this game into the Vita. Frame rates are low right off the bat and you will experience constant dipping to what seems to be sub 15 fps range when things get heated. There have been many times using the sniper rifle making sure to be a farther than normal distance to be somewhat effective for combat in multiplayer games. So basically the frame rates will stifle accuracy so it may be best to pick something that won't depend heavily on accuracy. The game is redeemed via download so it was very nice of them to include an 8GB memory card. It will be enough to have the game and DLC loaded into the card and have around 2GB (or more) left over for maybe a couple other games. The PS Vita has a decent hand full of games available on the Playstation Network store and if that's not enough for you there is also the backlog of PSP titles available for download that you can play on the Vita as well. You'll probably find yourself needing to buy a larger capacity memory card seeing how games go from 1GB to 5GB (I think). Considering how expensive the PS Vita and the memory cards used to be, this is a pretty awesome setup. You can look around on amazon to see how much the memory cards used to cost and try swinging by the local electronics store and you'll see that the prices for these memory cards (even the 8GB one) are ridiculous and makes it hard to believe that Sony thinks it's okay to price these things that high. I think this (in my opinion) is a good entry device for the system. I'd recommend it for those interested to make the jump into the PS Vita club. ... show more

  • Amazing System, Amazing features, Great games, LOVE IT
I don’t normally do reviews, but I'll give this one a shot to try and help others that may be in the same boat as me. I've been putting off getting a Vita for quite some time. Not because i didn’t like it, but because I’ve been busy with the PS4 and the Wii U, but after doing some research and coming across this bundle, I couldn’t pass it up. Before i get started in the review of the bundle, here is a list of all the accessories that i bought along with it so i could get it protected on day one: - HORI Elite Pack Protective Starter Kit for PlayStation Vita 2000 - iLLumiShield - Sony PS Vita PCH-2000 Screen Protector Japanese Ultra Clear HD Film with Anti-Bubble and Anti-Fingerprint - High Quality (Invisible) LCD Shield - Lifetime Replacement Warranty - [3-Pack] OEM / Retail Packaging - PDP PSVita Pull 'N Go Folio Keep in mind that all 3 of these items i can CONFIRM work with the new Vita Slim 2000 Model (Wonderfully I might add), which is awesome because that is the version in this bundle. Ok, so onto my impressions. It came, as described, with a Borderlands 2 Code and an 8GB memory card, which I had to use right away to download BL2. Not much else in the box. The usual’s: power cords, manuals, cardboard, etc. The first thing I thought when I picked up handheld was “WOW, this thing is light! It felt great, looked great. I was definitely impressed. The first thing I did before ANYTHING else was put on an iLLumishield screen protector and put it in the HORI clear case. After it was all protected, I didn’t have the patience to let it fully charge, so I decided to use an extra-long USB charger cable and plug it into the front of the PS4 and start it up. I walks you through all the beginning settings and such, and has How-To icons that pop up to help you get started. After that was all finished, I started messing around in the menus and the PS Store. As soon as I started touching menus, it had me do a System Update. It also explained everything that was in the update, which was nice. The next thing I noticed was that the screen looked GREAT. Don’t let all the other reviews that say the new LCD screen is a big let-down over the old OLED screen. It looked amazing! Crisp, clear, and an eye pleaser! This is coming from someone who never owned the old version, so this is based on virgin eyes to the Vita. I have NO issues whatsoever with the screen. I decided that the first thing I was going to do redeem the borderlands 2 code. It was quite easy, went into the store, clicked on the add code button, and bam, started downloading. The only crappy thing about this was that it took nearly 4 HOURS to download the whole game and all of the add-on packs. I was cool with it though as I expected it. Without dragging this on for too long, let me just say that I am very pleased and excited to finally own a Vita. There are sooo many great looking games in the library now that I feel I will be playing it for a long long time. I’ve got dozens of games in a wishlist on Amazon already and have also made a giant list of all the old school PS1 and PSP games that I’d love to play. Feel free to ask any questions regarding features or about the items I bought for it. I haven’t used the PS4 streaming features or the Chat features yet, but I definitely plan on it very soon. Don’t hesitate, pick this baby up. Now, onto playing me some more BL2 (and then some Persona 4, then some FF10, then some Disgaea, then some Soul Sacrifice, then some Freedom Wars, then some Killzone Mercenary, then some Ys,……lol) Anthony ... show more

  • Long Time Gamer Gives Big Thumbs Up!
I've been a console gamer since the original Nintendo and Sega Genesis days. I've had a number of handhelds, dating back to the Atari Lynx and TurboExpress, and more recently a PSP. Unfortunately that history of handhelds has been largely a history of disappointment, as those machines either were too lacking technically (even in their day), or had a pretty dubious collection of games available for them, or both. So I decided to get a "next gen" handheld with a lot of trepidation this time. Lots of research into the game libraries and the hardware. Happily I can say that I am really really impressed by the Vita. First the hardware: There is a lot of talk and debate about the screen. From my perspective, the screen is just gorgeous. The resolution and colors really make games shine to an extent that I didn't think was currently possible. There are cameras and microphones on the Vita that nobody seems to be talking about. But they are there and work nicely. For example, I've been playing "Spy Hunter", and it had my take a "selfie" and then used that for my little avatar/driver's license in the game. Neat. The controls are also very impressive. Miniaturized versions of the controllers for ps3/ps4, and work really well. I'm a big guy, with big hands, and the controls are just fine for me. Having a touch screen is huge. Some many times you can save lots of tedious data entry by simply using the touch screen. Very very good feature. The big thing though is the game library. A portable gaming device of course lives and dies by it's game library. While I did my due diligence, and understand that Vita is a distant second in market share to Nintendo in this space, and that Sony's commitment to Vita going forward is in some doubt, there isn't any doubt in my mind about the current state of the game selection... it is both large and very high quality. I'm having so much fun with "Spy Hunter", "Dragon's Crown", and "MLB Baseball" (haven't started on "Borderlands" yet). I'm a big sports nut, and the baseball game blows me away. I have it on the PS4 as well, and you know what... I like it better on the Vita! The quality is so high that it's almost indistinguishable from the console version, and it's so much more convenient and comfortable playing it on the small screen. A couple tips for new buyers trying to contemplate this purchase: 1. It uses a different charge cable than the old Vita does (it's a type of usb to micro usb with a power brick), so don't make the mistake I made and buy one of the old ones. 2. If you buy a large memory card (32gb or 64gb) you can buy your games through the playstation store, and then have them all "in the cloud" and on your vita. This is *so* convenient, not having to lug around and manage all the different game cartridges. Anyway, what a fantastic gaming experience the little Vita delivers! I'm very happy with it, and hope others give it a try as well. If you do, I think you'll come to a similar conclusion. ... show more

  • Great device, worth the price!
This review comes from a person who never owned a vita before. For a handheld, the vita really excels. I don't see anything wrong with it. It fulfills my gaming needs and it lets me play games. + The battery life is pretty long. I can game for 5-7 hours straight on the vita without having to recharge it. + I have a friend who has the old vita and he took a look at the vita slim and he said that he can't notice the difference between the screen if he doesn't compare it side by side. + The charger is micro usb charger. I find this pretty nifty, since I have micro usb charger everywhere, so I don't have to carry around another charger just for the vita. I also have a ps3 that I use to transfer games to my vita. There are a few things that I really don't like about it though: - When you transfer games from the ps3 to the vita, both your ps3 and vita are unusable. It has to go through the content manager and you can only use your ps3 or your ps vita after the transfer is done. I transferred about 4 gb worth of game and it took me about an hour last night. Really wish that you can still at least use the ps3 when the game is transferring. - The vita slim has a 1gb internal storage. But if you insert your memory card, you cannot use the internal storage anymore. You can only choose either one, which kinda sucks. I want to store games on a memory card and save data in the internal storage. There should be an option for this. The 1gb is barely enough for a game. And it already comes with a memory card, so of course you'd use the 8gb memory card that comes with it. Other than that, those two cons shouldn't keep you away from the vita slim. It's an awesome gaming device. I bought it to play Persona 4 Golden and I didn't regret it one bit and with PS Plus, you can also get a ton of Vita games for free. So far, I've bought muramasa for 7 dollars with the PS Plus discount and got soul sacrifice, gravity rush, etc for free. ... show more

  • Better than the Vita-1000 model, hands down!
I've been reading everywhere that the trade off for the OLED screen for the LCD screen is a major disappoint all around, but I'm here to say that I actually prefer the sharpness and natural looking colors of the LCD. Yes some games pop more on the OLED screen of the Vita-1000 model, but in all around gaming/video consumption the LCD screen blows it out of the water in my own opinion. The thinness and the new look of the Vita has won me over and it looks sexy. I had the black model of the Vita-1000 before my dog destroyed it causing me to get another 1000 model which was white and at that time I thought this was one of the best looking consoles I've ever owned. But after seeing the Vita-2000 aka Slim model I can say this is hands down the sexiest handheld I've ever laid eyes upon. The better battery, screen (in my own opinion), weight, and overall look is better in every way. Another factor is the rear touchpad was huge on the first model and they shrunk it down while giving you better grip pads on the back which is good for people with big hands like me. I feel like I've been doing nothing but talking about the Vita-2000 and should move onto the game and bundle itself. Overall, the bundle is well worth it compared the the launch of the original Vita and comes with Borderlands 2 (redeemable code, not physical copy.) and a 8GB memory card and the rest of the goodies. Great deal and the game itself BL2 is great on the Vita, people have been complaining about the graphics and FPS dips, but if you honestly played it for yourself on this screen you wouldn't mind it and will actually be thinking how amazing the developers are to port this huge game over to the handheld. tl;dr great purchase don't regret it and have replaced my old Vita-1000 White model with this new Vita-2000 slim black model. The game is fun and I love my new Vita. ... show more

  • great deal great system overpriced memory cards if you need a bigger one(and you probably will if u buy games digitally like me)
First off the picture is great the games are fun but one major issue, and this is an issue with SONY not an issue with this bundle. the memory cards are many times higher price than SD and micro SD cards, now this game comes with an 8 GB card which is a great deal, but the borderlands 2 game you get with it is a download and takes most of that card or at least seemed to, so no problem you might say, micro sdxc by SanDisk are reasonable and class 10 up to 40MB/s no problem right?? WRONG! Sony likes to nickel and dime everyone out of their money so they make a card that only works with PS vita so keep in mind that the 8gb won't get u very far unless u are planning on getting mainly physical copies in which case you should be fine. Amazon was great though they shipped everything to me very very fast and I believe it was faster than originally estimated so amazon gets 5 out of 5 BUT Sony gets 3 out of 5 loses 2 for ramming their tiny memory cards down my throat and they wonder why 3DS is kicking their butt, this is the reason. The game works great its very fun which I knew it would be because borderlands is amazing. The picture is also very nice I just wish Sony would quit this bad habit of nickel and diming people because in the end it hurts the beautiful system that is hindered by this memory card problem. Overall gameplay is beautiful but if you like buying games digitally that may get very EXPENSIVE due to the cards. ... show more
