Got this for my kiddo and she was fascinated with building for days. Love love love

  • Challenging, but fun - not for beginners
Style: Cyberpunk
Many different companies sell this product on Amazon so I bought from two different companies to compare. The Mocuba version had slightly better quality and included ALL parts, including white glue and batteries. In this product line the Cyberpunk is rated 5 stars difficulty, and it was! I’ve made the other types, Library of Books and Sakura Densya, and trust me, Cyberpunk is not for beginners. But it is fun! If you know what you’re getting into and prepare for it. Be prepared to read the instructions and make notes for yourself as needed bc they are not translated to English very clearly. Key is to note the wires. Gray is Negative and White is Positive. Also, I needed a wire stripper for 32-24 gauge wires to work with all the tiny wire bits. I strongly recommend you use various craft glues for different needs. UV resin glue was a must have for getting the metal wires of the led lights to stick to wood, paper, etc. Check all the led strings before you assemble because they may need some electric tape to secure the connections - the clear heat shrink tubes were not all secured. Also I gave it 4 stars because the battery switch was really weak sauce and soldering came apart after I wrapped connections with tape, as the instructions said to do. So I used one of my own switches using CR2032 batteries which I got through Amazon. But its a fun challenge if you already like making miniature dioramas, book books, etc. ... show more

  • Wayyy too tedious
Style: Cyberpunk
The entire time I was working on this, I just kept thinking that someone must have sat around trying to come up with the absolute MOST time consuming method possible to do each step. Instead of just telling you which light strip to use, they add a step where you have to test out each one and then create a label for the correct color. Instead of printing the colored images onto the wood pieces (like other similar DIY booknooks usually do), this one has tiny images printed on PAPER and they tell you to cut out each and every one, then individually glue it in on top of each piece of wood -- like, would it really have been so hard at least to print the images on pre-cut sticker paper?! See sample photo of one of the instruction pages for an idea of just how tedious this gets. As another one of my photos shows, instead of cutting a single wood piece into a ladder shape, they make you go through tons of steps to create tiny tin foil ladder rungs that you have to somehow magically glue (and get each one to stick just right) onto the sides of a ladder. The ladder alone seemingly took days, as I often had to stop and wait for the glue to dry on the ones I manage to stick just right, then go back and fix the ones that didn't stay put. The English translations of text in the instructions isn't great, but certainly not the worst I've come across. You can mostly figure out the intent. "Stick with white latex" means glue it, lamps are LEDs, you get the idea. Although I've bought and made a bunch of these types of things, this was the first time I received tons of pieces all just thrown into three or four separate little bags (rather than being on numbered punch-out boards), leaving me to have to hunt around through tons of other pieces to find the right ones with the right measurements at each and every step. This one really had the potential to look cool, and perhaps it even does in photos at least (in person, it looks a lot sloppier from all the handcutting and gluing and flimsy paper, even though I promise I tried so hard to be extra neat and tidy), but overall, the actual process of putting it together was not nearly as fun as, and was way more tedious than, ALL the other ones I've been doing of the same general product category. I awarded three stars mainly because the price point was not too bad for a cute multi-colored light-up booknook, but I personally will definitely avoid buying anything else from this same brand/creator. ... show more

  • Adorable, and everyone loved it, just one issue.
Style: Cat Street
This was a fun project. We split up the work throughout several days with half an hour each day to spread out the fun. Lots of pieces, everything numbered correctly and concisely, and there were one or two extra pieces just in case you broke or lost something. There is only one time where we messed up the positioning of something and that was for the battery pack, but we fixed it easily. And when putting on the bookshelf, it fit like it was meant to be there. The only gripe that we have with this is the big bold "European Town" on the front and side. You could have...seriously been more imaginative than that. "Cat Alley", or "Coffee Stop", "Books and Cups" or "The Cat's Meow", "Stop and Stare", "A Moment in Time", "Reader's Street", "Cats and Coffee", "Corner Break"...there's so many better names that showed an ounce of imagination that the actual nook itself shows. European Town just feels lazy. It feels like you've done a disservice to the otherwise amazing piece. Do better next time. Easy to build, took approx. two or three hours overall, great fun. ... show more

  • Low quality parts makes this a very frustrating build
Style: Town
So, let me preface this with the "difficulty" assigned by the manufacturer. This kit is designated as the hardest of the kits sold by this company. But this isn't due to any techniques or skills needed, but rather due to the lack of effort provided in the creation of the product. Parts are strewn about loosely in bags and instead of the art being printed on the actual wood, it is instead printed on paper, and you are instructed to fold and glue the paper to the wood. This wouldn't be such an issue if the cut-outs were shaped to fit, but instead they are too big and require additional trimming after application and then will lead to mismatch of different jagged surfaces. I've also had pieces of wood arriving broken or stuck together in the bags, leading to additional work to be done, just to begin construction. I do not recommend this kit to anyone, especially for the price. ... show more

This is a very nice idea, it’s very cool and awesome concept. Giving it a 4 star cause it was tedious, took me a couple of days to put together. But overall it is very nice. Good gift for book lover
