I'm so glad I picked this up! It has everything you need, all in a cute little box! The instructions are clear and tell you everything you need to know, with step by step instructions. They also provide QR codes which link you to a video with helpful information as well. Everything is nicely made, obviously putting thought into every detail. From the plastic liner in the bottom of the inside, protecting the wood from water damage, to the plastic liners inside the individual pots, complete with a hole for drainage. It's clear they paid attention to the details when designing this. They give you a cute little burlap bag filled with little tools, using that same burlap for the little pots. I love it when things match, so that stood out to me and was a notch in the pro column. They also give you plenty of seeds to ensure germination. Not only that, but they give you extra seeds in case you don't have success with the original packets. This allowed me to receive an extra packet of Locust seeds, one of the original three in the larger-sized packets, and a different one too. One I actually preferred over one of the original three, so I decided to grow that one instead. Even more than all that, they guarantee germination or your money back. They also tell you to reach out to them for any reason, with the girl in the video confessing to be the one personally reading and responding to every email. That goes a long way in my book, when a company stands behind their products. It feels more personal and trustworthy. Since in the same video, she is also encouraging customers to leave reviews, I'm going to go ahead and assume she will be reading this, because I have a suggestion. At the end of the instructions, they show the different types of Bonzai trees, which is helpful for beginners like me who don't know what they look like. That was when I saw the Wisteria and immediately fell in love. It instantly made me wish I had received an extra packet of those instead of the extra packet of Locust seeds. Especially since I had so many of those in the regular packet already . So to make a long story short, given how few variations of seeds there are and the lack of ability to request specific ones, I wish I had received all of them, giving me the ability to choose. Maybe I'm being overly picky, but unless these seeds really suck at germination, I wouldn't have any problem giving up quantity of some types of seeds, in order to be able to get all of them and have a choice. Not worth taking a star off for, just a tip I thought I'd share in an attempt to be helpful! All in all I think this is a great little set! It has everything you need to grow at least 3 bonzai trees and at it's current price-point, I think it's a great value! This is a nice set to get as a gift for someone, especially if that someone is you! I got it for me, myself and I, and I'm so happy I did! Excited to go on this new adventure into the world of Bonzai and I look forward to seeing how they all turn out!!!

If you, or someone you know, ever wanted to get started with the wonderful hobby of growing bonsai trees, this little kit is a great way to gain entry without investing in a lot of stuff up front (although that will have to happen if you want to go beyond the initial stages of the kit). This kit, if you follow the instructions, will get you through the first 30-45 days of growing, from seeds, 3 different species of trees (Jacaranda, Locust, and Pigeon Pea). After that, you're on your own, but you will be on your way with sufficient information in the provided booklet to get you into that next phase, where you'll need things like training pots, pruning gear, etc. The kit provides you with a lot of seeds, over 50 in the Pigeon Pea package, for example, along with a "rainy day" replacement set if your first attempt doesn't yield seedlings for some reason. I've used kits like this in the past to start bonsais, and, like much in life, it can be a 50-50 proposition even under ideal conditions. It's important to follow the step-by-step guide for each of the phases in the booklet (Sowing, Germination, Sprouting, Early Growth) for maximum success potential, and there's a digital version for easy reference you can access via QR code as well. You're given three 'pots' made of a burlap exterior with a plastic interior liner and brass grommet drain hole to get you going. The soil for the pots consists of compressed coco coir, and it takes about 200 ml of water to hydrate it for use. One disk's worth of soil fits comfortably in each bag, with all three bags fitting into the provided plastic tray if you squeeze them in tightly. The all-important first step, the 24-hour soaking, is best done with bottled water and separate containers for each seed type. When done correctly, the seeds will swell up and/or shed their outer coating and begin to sprout. I had the greatest success with the Pigeon Pea, the Locust had the fewest, and the Jacaranda came in between. Then it's just a matter of placing the sprouting seeds in their pots, providing the pots with the desired temperature range and moisture levels outlined in the booklet, and within a few days, the young seedlings will appear, and your bonsai adventure has begun! Everything in the kit comes in a nice pine box for easy storage (or giftability) while the tools provided (regular shovel, transplant shovel, rake, tweezers, hand snips) have their own drawstring burlap bag to keep things tidy when not in use. Three pine laser-engraved stake tags round things out to allow you to clearly label and ID what you planted where, so there's no confusion down the road. The stakes are durable and portable, allowing you to transfer them along with the seedlings, if you like, when it's time for them to move into a more permanent pot home as they grow and mature.

The Avergo Bonsai Tree Kit is a unique gift for the green thumb on your gift list. I found the kit to be well put together; everything needed to successfully turn bonsai seeds to seedlings was included. I love the simplicity of the set, and small and adorable nature of each of the components in the box. Although the included seeds have a higher germination rate, bonsai are hard to grow from seeds, so extra seeds are provided. It is recommended that you start trying to germinate the seeds from when the kit is delivered to increases your chances of success, otherwise, refrigerate the seeds to prolong their longevity. This process requires patience from start to finish. The seeds need to be soaked before planting. After planting, they may need weeks before growth is noticed. And then the seedlings need to be sturdy before replanting. Each and every step requires patience, and even with patience, success is not guaranteed. But growing bonsai is an art form that requires care and precision in every step. I'm so excited to have ordered this set. I'm hoping that I have success with growing multiple bonsai, and I plan to share with my mom when the trees become substantial enough to do so. I'm still trying to figure out which of my friends and relatives have the patience for a gift like this - I'd love to share!
