  • Excellent basic exercise bike.
February 2015. An excellent basic exercise bike. I had used this exercise bike when visiting in New Orleans, so when my ten-year old Vitamaster exercise bike died (broken seat, replacement parts no longer available), it was an easy choice to buy this exercise bike. Assembly took about thirty minutes, although if I had to assemble another one of these it would take half that time. Well-packaged in its shipping box, and the instructions were easy enough to follow. Having the various screws and bolts in a card-mounted blister pack, plus the necessary tools (multi-size spanner wrench plus two hex wrenches) was an unexpected bonus. Two hex wrenches are needed for assembling the main rocker arm shaft. I am full 6' feet but found this exercise bike to fit fine, although I did have to place the seat post at its highest available position. I like the foot rests; you can use then with or without the foot holders. I particularly like the adjustable friction strap, which gives you analog adjustment. The digital read out works fine, and is sufficiently large to be easily readable while sitting on the exercise bike. Buy the supplemental padded seat, though. The O.E.M. seat is indeed hard, which I confirmed while adjusting the seat height, before adding the fortunately also purchased Schwinn padded seat. All in all, and excellent price for a basic exercise bike, which is all I was interested in. April 2017 update: It's two years later and the tensioner belt finally wore out. New tensioner belt available from the manufacturer for $22, but installation of replacement belt more difficult than it should be due to need to transfer keeper clip spring from old belt to new belt. For $22, the replacement tensioner belt should come with its own, captive, clip spring. See photos. Still rate this as an excellent exercise bike, though. Further feedback: Body Rider Sports called me and offered to send an extra clip spring free of charge. They explained that you have to order a spring clip along with a new tensioner belt, if that's what you want. But for a customer replacing the tensioner belt for the first time, you wouldn't know that. Also, if these are sent as separate parts, you will still need a vice and needle nose pliers to open bend the eye hook end and then re-bend the eye hook close after the tensioner belt has been inserted. Not every customer is likely to have access to a vice and needle nose pliers. Really, any order for a replacement tensioner belt should come with the belt having an already attached captive retainer spring. But kudos to Body Flex Sports for having a Customer Service department that lives up to the name. ... show more

  • Fairly simply exercise bike - gets the job done!
If you're looking for a fan bike which does its job; this is the one you're looking for. Setting it up is fairly easy, it comes with all the tools you need to install. Instructions are clear. I only had one slight issue installing the pedals which required me to use another wrench to stop the bolt from spinning while I tightened the lock nut. The bike does make noise with use, its not loud but if you're looking for a super quiet setup, this isn't it. The seat is also very uncomfortable, so expect to need to use a cushion for added support. The monitor tracks time, speed, distance, and calories, but who knows how accurate the calorie estimate is. For time it's reliable, and distance/speed there is a rudimentary sensor which measures how many revolutions the wheel makes. ... show more

  • Easy Set Up, Easy Adjustments...Great for the Price!
I got this for my elderly mother so she could continue her physical therapy right at home for improved mobility. I settled for this one because I wasn't sure that she would stick with the program and didn't want to commit to a hefty price in case she didn't. I also didn't want a huge, heavy monster in her large...but not gym sized...bedroom. Based on reviews, this seemed like just the thing: simple and easy to use. I also purchased the Serfas Bicycle Saddle Pad based on other reviews of the hard seat at the same time. I was ready for a nightmare when it came to putting it together but in reality, it was a breeze. The hardest part was actually getting the tape off of the parts on the marked diagram card. I would say it was about 15 minutes all told for assembly. I practiced on different belt adjustments for tension and it was remarkably easy to increase and decrease tension. So easy that it is a breeze to even switch the tension for different users on the same machine without complaints of time wasted. It takes more time to go through the electronics for the one I use at the gym! My mother has been using it for some time now. Short sessions on easy tension only. I've used it a few times just for fun on a variety of tensions. My mother finds the movement of the handles to be a bit of a burden at times. She reports that it causes her to reach too far out ahead and she doesn't feel stable all the time. When she is feeling good, she keeps with the handles for about half the session and then just holds her hands at the seat for the remainder of the session. She likes the electronics as they are simple enough for her to make sense of and she feels comfortable controlling them. She's rather short, but she likes her seat a bit higher and finds it comfortable with the seat cover on it. Intolerably hard without it. As for me, I'm quite a bit taller than her but I find that it's a compromise between seat height and maintaining posture with the handles as they move. I have to keep it a bit shorter in order not to be leaning uncomfortably forward to maintain contact with the handles. Once I did bang my knee on the machine during such a compromise but so long as I am concious of my positioning, I do fine. For those that like the height to be just right for their legs and are taller, you may find the reach to be too much for long sessions. Unless you have long arms, that is. As for noise, it does have some noise since it is a fan bike. That is sort of expected so I'm not sure what the complaints are about. It is certainly very nice to get that bit of cooling breeze once you start heating up too. I can hear the TV just fine by adjusting the volume only slightly. My mother has a bit of hearing loss and she has to turn it up a bit more to be heard but reports she likes it just fine. Overall, this is a sturdy machine, particuarly for the price. It is easy to slide around to a new position and very easy to adjust for multiple users. We've had zero issues with it and are quite happy with it for it's purpose. Not sure how this would do if it received very heavy use, but for the moderate user, it's a great deal. For elderly persons who are cleared for this type of machine, I happily recommend it as a great tool for increasing leg strength after wasting from stroke or illness and encouraging a bit of mild cardio work. ... show more
