I regularly use a concrete boat ramp that has no dock so I have to ground the bow in the ramp. My keel was taking a beating but those days are over. It took some time to do the proper prep but I wanted to do it right so the guard would last. I am very happy with this keel guard. The adhesive seems super strong so I expect a long life. The keel guard doesn't show any wear yet after multiple grounding on the ramp since I installed it.

The Keel Guard worked as described. I use it for a small fiberglass boat. It is very heavy duty and adds weight to the boat, so keep that in mind if you use it on a light weight boat or kayak. Make sure the area you put it on is clean, and I highly recommend installing it in warmer weather as it is very hard to work with when it's cold.

This keel protector is competitively priced compared to similar products in the market. It features a notably thick material, ensuring durability. However, it presents some challenges when conforming to sharper angles. Additionally, the adhesive backing could benefit from improved strength, as I encountered issues with the protector not adhering properly to the kayak's surface. For reference, I followed a standard procedure for applying the keel guard. Firstly, I prepared the surface by roughening it up. Subsequently, I cleaned the area with isopropyl alcohol to remove any impurities. After the alcohol had evaporated, I applied a 94 primer and allowed it to dry for approximately a minute or until it was dry to the touch. Finally, I attached the keel guard to the primed surface and utilized a seam roller to firmly press it down, ensuring proper adhesion. On the subsequent day, the keel guard had detached from the kayak where I had applied it around a curved surface. I repeated the application process once more. After the second attempt, it held for approximately two days before beginning to detach again. On the third attempt, I followed the same procedure and attempted to soften the rigid keel guard using a heat gun. This time, the adhesive adhered until I initially used the kayak in the water after the installation. The following day, I observed the keel guard detaching from the same area. At this juncture, I am devoid of viable solutions. I am contemplating either replacing the keel guard or the adhesive backing. I shall endeavor to replace the adhesive backing around the detaching area initially. If this measure proves ineffective or if I encounter excessive difficulty in removing the backing, I shall attempt to replace the entire strip. Regrettably, this situation has escalated into a more onerous undertaking than initially anticipated.

Took me 3 hours to pull the old damaged keel guards off, and the hulls cleaned up on 2 jetskis. Went to install these new keel guards and I instantly regretted purchasing them. the red tape backing nearly fell off on it's own. the tape itself was not sticky at all. I did try to install, but gravity had better ideas. did some checking back on my order and these do not have the 3M tape. Do not purchase keel guards unless they have 3M! unfortunately also, this review wont let me submit unless i give it a star. It doesn't deserve one.

I got this for my 18ft powerboat. The forward portion of the keel has kissed rocks and beaches over the years and had a few dings. I got this guard to protect it. I cleaned the area well with xylene – could have used any other cleaning solvent, including rubbing alcohol. Then I dry-fit the keel guard with the backing still on it. I had a friend help me so we could hold it in place while I marked the outline with a pencil. Only then I realized they wanted me to apply 3M primer first, not included. I’d recently replaced the flooring in the boat with foam that has its own built-in adhesive as well, but I found that using a waterproof carpet glue (waterproof once dry) really helped hold it down. I had some ready so I masked around the area and painted it on, then let it get tacky. Once ready, I peeled off the first foot or 2 of the keel strip’s backing, exposing the adhesive layer, and placed it where I want it, then peeled some more and kept going until the full length was stuck down. Then I went over it again, tapping it firmly down with a rubber mallet, then ran a rubber roller over that. I gave it several days to really harden up and cure before I put the boat in the water. So far it’s stuck firmly, a good thing in water, with all the stress and abuse a keel guard must take.

Terrible product. Will not stick to the bottom of the boat. Cleaned very well before installing and the adhesive on the product will not stick! Absolutely Garbage!

Disappointed in this product. With the price it should come with some of the basic components for install especially the adhesive primer. You might have some of the other items necessary but the primer is a specially item and require a special purchase and it’s not cheap. I’m reluctant to install without primer as per many other users it seems worthless unless primed and even it is primed will it work any better as it doesn’t appear to be genuine 3M adhesive tape.
