Top Amazon Reviews

  • Not a review, but a story
I initially bought a Blueridge BR-263a from amazon warehouse for $800 before tax. Excellent price, but one of the tuner was bent. I'm guessing this happened during shipping. I promptly sent it back for a refund; in hindsight, maybe I should have kept it. Br-263a has same spec as BR-283a, without the blings and should sound same or similiar. Build quality was a definite step down from American built guitars but sound is on a similar level. It had adirondack top and you can hear the sound hasn't opened up yet. I played 283a, 263a, 280, and bunch of other blueridges about 1-2 years ago. Comparing blueridge 283a and 263a to Martin HD28V (similar brace pattern, but no adirondack), Martin has more complexity and overtone and sounds much rounder. Blueridge was more punchy with Taylor like shimmer on higher notes. I think Blueridge will have much more headroom and volume when it has opened up. I thought the blueridge will sound similar to Martin DR Centennial, which has similar bracing pattern and Adirondack top. But they sounded quite different. Maybe it's unfair to do comparison when the guitar hasn't settle in yet. I do remember older Adirondack topped blueridges having more balanced and overall better sound. Getting back to my story, after returning the 263a, I purchased a BR-283a. I had no intention of purchasing it, but price was too good. Amazon listed it for about $2300 without case and a third party seller had listed it for $1550. I contacted the seller and asked if I can have a discount. Seller lowered the price to $1400 for a new BR283a. I'm a sucker for discount and I pulled the trigger. I was quite surprised when I received the package, there was no guitar. I received a empty parlor guitar case. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed. Did someone do this on purpose? Was it an honest mistake? Was it the third party seller? Some rogue worker at Amazon? I'm currently working on getting my money back. I still wouldn't mind owning a BR283a for $1400, but I don't think that will happen. Most likely scenario is, I'll get my money back after 2 days of anguish, 5 days of frustration, 3 hours on the phone with customer service (most of that time on hold). Lesson for me is ....... don't buy anything expensive on amazon through 3rd party seller. ... show more

  • GREAT PRICE
I don't know why, but I was able to buy this guitar for $1139. That's about 40% of the usual price. I had been looking at this model (I also have a Blueridge BR-183) for quite a while but didn't want to spend $2500 on a Chinese guitar. When I saw this I jumped on it. The guitar was listed as "used". I very much doubt that the it was used. The packaging and the guitar were mint. Overall I like the guitar very much but it is actually quite different than the BR-183 I have. The 183 has Indian Rosewood the 283 has "Santos" rosewood, which is not technically rosewood but very nice. The sound is a little more mellow and deeper than 183. One thing that always bothered me with the 183 was the inlay on the headstock. The 283 tones it down a little which I like much better. The 283 (and I wonder if the NEW 183s are the same) has a neck that is much wider at the 12th fret even though at the nut, it's the same as my older 183. I haven't decided if I like that or not. The 283 is heavier and the neck profile is thicker but than, the 183 had an unusually thin neck. The other bonus is the gig bag. It's a very nice faux Chinese leather that has ample padding and a nice feel. I much prefer it to the cheap hard shell case that I got with my 183. The bottom line, the 283 has nicer sound and nicer look, the feel, to me, is not quite as comfortable. I am going to sell my BR-183 and keep this one. ... show more

  • Beautiful tone w/ some quality control problems--(updated review)
The good: This guitar has an absolutely beautiful tone and is the most even tone between strings I have ever heard. I truely think it compares favorably with its Martin counterpart OM 45. The wood quality is beautiful, probably AAA grade or better adirondack spruce and also a very high grade of Pau Ferro (Santos Rosewood) and the finish is nearly flawless. I would highly reccommend this instrument, especially when on sale. The bad: This guitar is supposed to have gold plated Gotoh tuners but it came with silver generic tuners also the pickguard is hanging on by a thread. I think I'm going to ask for a return from Amazon or some other resolution to the problems. I will keep you posted as to the problems and may increase the rating depending on this. Amazon has always been great concerning returns in the past. Update: I spoke to both the manufacturer (Saga) and Amazon, When I spoke to Saga they were very little help and ultimately said they could do nothing and that I should instead speak to Amazon about a resolution. I called Amazon and told them about the problems with the guitar and explained that they were only cosmetic and that I loved the tone of the guitar and would like to keep if they would be willing to pay to have the tuners and pickguard changed by a luthier. Amazon went over and above my expectations and offered a 25% refund of the purchase price if I was willing to keep the guitar as is. First of all I am thankful to God for helping me resolve the issue in a way that enabled me to keep this beautiful sounding instrument. I am using this guitar for leading worship in my church care group meetings. Next, I give Amazon a full five stars for their response and Blueridge guitars 4 stars for the excellent sounding and beautiful instrument even with the quality issues. ... show more

  • A great sounding, beautiful, accurately 000-45 trimmed acoustic guitar.
This is a finely hand crafted BEAUTIFUL instrument. Yes it is modeled after a well known vintage brand. Blueridge has built a great sounding world class heirloom quality guitar that stands on its own. I have had mine for 6 months now and it just keeps sounding better. Responds well to fingerpicking or flatpicking both soft or loud. Check price often because mine was priced well below this offering and also came in a deluxe superior brand hard shell case. ... show more
