I only feed my dogs dry food and fruits and vegetables. They seem to really like this dog food and I've never had stomach issues with them. I have even switched the flavor within the Blue Buffalo brand and that doesn't give them an upset stomach either which is why I like Blue Buffalo. I also prefer it because I know what most, if not all, of the ingredients actually are. It's a bit pricey, but my dogs are worth it. I am on auto delivery every 3 weeks for two 65 lb dogs and that seems to work well. ... show more

I like this dog food as it has the signs of a high quality dog food as it has: * Named animal protein is the first ingredient. Ingredients are listed in order of weight, so I want to see a named animal protein as the first ingredient. That's true here as "Deboned Salmon" is the first ingredient. * Meat that is supported by a meat meal. There should be a named animal protein immediately after the meat as fresh meat contains a lot of moisture (making it heavy and therefore the first ingredient) but the moisture reduces the protein. "Salmon meal" is listed as the second ingredient here. It also doesn't have ingredients that I want to avoid, such as unnamed animal products (such as meat meal, or poultry meal) or added sweeteners. It is expensive, but is comparable to other high protein dog foods. As dry dog foods come in different sized packages, I try to avoid the price for dog food and instead look at the price per pound. At the current price of $85.98, this food costs $3.07/pound. Similar high-protein dog foods cost more (for example, Acana Wholesome Grains Sea to Stream Fish & Grains dog food costs $3.92 per pound.) Note that if you're trying to avoid chicken (for instance, if your dog is allergic), this food does contain chicken (chicken meal and dried chicken are in the first 8 ingredients). My dogs loved this dog food. At first, my dog took this right away (perhaps because it was a new variety for him). Lately, he hasn't been as interested (leaving a little bit behind with every meal). Now, after observing him for 2 weeks, I realize that it's because the food is so filling and probably suffices his appetite. He is, in no way, disgusted by it because when I spread his meals out a little further, he eats every last morsel. I like the fact that the kernels are of varied sizes making it easy on his digestion (he will be 14 years old in August and still very healthy, though slowing down). I have always heard great things about this brand and wanted to try it. I do believe the price point is a bit high as compared to what I am use to purchasing, but I was glad that I had an opportunity to let me dog experience something he hadn't before. ... show more

This is a high-protein dog food coming in at a 32 percent minimum guaranteed analysis, which the protein coming from what seems to be a quality list: deboned salmon, salmon meal, chicken meal and dried chicken. I don't see any corn on the list, instead we have oatmeal, barley, potatoes and brown rice. The list also includes taurine and many vitamins, and from what I can tell, no added sugars, with instead naturally sweet addtions such as blueberries, cranberries and sweet potatoes. The feeding chart starts with 50-pound dogs, so that is a reasonable definiton by Blue Buffalo of what a "large breed" is. My sheltie was just at 50 pounds and is now on a diet to get down to around 40 pounds, which this high protein product ought to help with. My sheltie gobbles this food up, and given the not-huge size of the kibble, I believe medium-weight dogs would be fine with it. Given the ample contents of the 28-pound bag, we may be visiting friends with legitimately large breeds to see if they enjoy this adult dry food as well as my sheltie does. UPDATE: I've shared this dry food with the owners of a 70-pound Airedale and a hefty, field-type springer spaniel. The owner of the Airedale finds her dog experiences flatulence with salmon-based foods, so she added 1/2 cup of cooked rice and a similar amount of canned food to the dry food to avoid this. I wish I had had my camera ready when our girls tried to break into this bag of dog food. We took it out of the box and put it on the kitchen floor, intending to fill our pet food vaults with this kibble. We have three pets, two cats and a dog. Our cats, Nottina and Chloe, are thieves and are under the supervision of the master criminal, Oscar, the dachshund - 'Youse get da kibbles, I's eat da kibbles, capiche?' The girls made cat mouth-shaped tears in the bag, just enough to get a few bites. That crunching sound is what alerted me to the crime in progress. We arrested the girls and put the bag of kibble in a safe place before the leader could get his paws on it. In all seriousness, they all love it, but only Oscar will be getting the dog food. Sadly, the girls will still be eating their kibble for cats. ... show more
