  • It's a facade - do research first!
Style: G90 Color: Blue
Update - 6 months into owning this phone and I bought 2, for me and the lady. Now I feel taken advantage of because both phones are defective and I reached out to Blu via their website to get warranty coverage and got no response. I've had to contact Amazon to get them to get me in touch with Blu as a seller on Amazon. We'll see what response I get. Do not get this phone. As you see in my review from December I already had my doubts about it and a month after that 1 of the phones became useless because the screen protector and case couldn't keep it secure and safe from normal wear and tare and the screen nearly exploded underneath the screen protector. It couldn't be used because the crack splintered down and across the entire screen and looks like it's bleeding color. Then after reaching out to Blu to cover the warranty the 2nd phone stopped charging. I purchased different cables thinking the cord was the issue and returned them and got another only to find the phone is the problem. It tells me it's going to take 67hrs to charge from 10% to 90%!! I'm wasting away trying to charge this thing I've had to go back to using our 4yr old phones by LG. I bought these Blu so we could get into the current times and have updated smartphones and both phones failed before they were 6 months old. I will never buy a Blu device again and I'm so frustrated that I have to deal with getting these things warranty coverage. I can already see that it's going to be a nightmare dealing with the manufacturer. If you are thinking about going with Blu , do not! I thought maybe it's just the model G90 but after more research I find it's the company and not the model. I was all for going with another model and blaming myself for this purchase but then both phones failed and now I understand it's not me. DO YOUSELF THE FAVOR AND SPEND THE EXTRA $200 AND GET A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER!! You will thank me. Update to December 2020 review is above ---- December 2020 review below--- I've had the phone for a little over 2 months now and I'm undecided still. I'm not happy with my decision that's for sure but as far as the quality of the phone goes I'm at a crossroads. I rushed my decision to purchase and I wish I Hadn't. That was the dumbest mistake because I would have returned it and now I'm pretty sure I can't but I would immediately if I could. When they say these phones are the low budget top shelf, they aren't lying. The price is cheap for what you'd think the phone was capable of doing. All the specs listed really give an illusion that this thing was the diamond in the ruff buy but it's all BS. At least for this model it is. It comes with Android 10 but no promise of getting an upgrade to 11 even tho 11 came out less than couple months after this thing was released in August 2020. It's got a huge screen which was something I was looking for but if the tech under the hood can't produce much then what's the point? I was purchasing this to take over my LG K20 which I got over 3 years ago and the specs of this phone should be faster and smoother than the LG especially since its 3+ yrs old and on paper you'd think it would be better but it's not. This thing gets slow and bogged down after having multiple apps open which the LG did not do for the first 2.5yrs of having it. This thing has 4gb of ram which is double the LG and 64bg storage which is 8 times more than the LG but it's nothing if it can't handle using multiple apps at the same time or one after another. The chip set and speed supposedly with this phone doesn't seem to be crap over a 3-4yr old LG which at the time was a low-middle range phone . Now I don't want to bash on Blu because had I done the research I should have I would have found a better phone from Blu than this so it's my fault too. This phone gets a flashy and fake ad campaign and I fell for it. I thought since it's 2020 and this thing came out in August 2020 and all the specs looked incredible for the price that I'd found a winner, but I'm not happy. The camera is great but is nothing when there's no AR capabilities or iris sensor. I thought those things would be standard by now considering they are years old tech but I was wrong. And I didn't even realize it wasn't apart of this phone until after purchase and seeing it listed on other devices . It comes with the Google phone app and google messages app but are not what the pixel or other high end phones have . I'm finding that the abilities to have google assistant put a call on hold or inform you who's calling was either removed from os10 and is only on 11 or it's not on this os10 release this phone has, even tho everything on this thing is showing the ability should be available. The messaging app has the bubbles option in the settings but it does not work with this os10 and was moved to 11 or is not working with this phone. I've wasted hours trying to get it working. Apps freeze and get jittery if I'm running multiple apps. The notifications are terrible and the options to customize are limited and frustrating. Now I realize those things can be related to the os10 and not the actual phone but it is also the responsibility of the manufacturer to help it's customers with updates or some info and I'm finding that blu has no plans or just doesn't put out any press about upgrading to os11. One upside is there's 2 sim slots and a 3rd sim ability via e-sim which is a bonus since I have a work and personal phone so I'm in the process of bringing my work sim to this phone so I can have both on one device. As far as I can tell it should work and I should be able to turn one of my sims into an esim but we shall see. The battery is great so far . 1 charge has gone from lasting 3 days to 1.5 days over 2 months and seems to be leveling out at a full charge lasting 24hrs to a little over that. The sound or speakers are terrible and the screen is way too bright and keeping it turned down low still is too bright at times. If you're looking at buying this phone id say get the G90 pro or another type of blu phone since there's others that seem to be better just based off the specs . This is good for someone not in need of customization or having the most current updates . Also I'm use to LG knock screen to turn off and on the screen so going to this which doesn't have it and also has the power button on the side is frustrating. The fingerprint scanner is good but it doesn't act like a power button to turn off the screen so having to use the side power is a challenge to get use to . I think that for $129, the bells and whistles should be more current with the times we're in and should have more interaction with the manufacturer doing updates and other things with it's customers which doesn't happen so far . I guess I expected too much and I realize I went from a company that was in on what's hot and needed , to one that portrays itself as knowing whats hot but is really not and that's what fooled me and has disappointed me. ... show more

  • Wasted potential

I have been using BLU phones since 2016, I had my BLU life one X2 mini until last year. It was hard to finally let it go because it was an amazing phone and it worked really well for the price it was. Since I had such a good experience with my BLU life one X2, I decided to buy another BLU when the time came to change to a new phone. Everything was going well and my phone worked perfectly, however in a bad move yesterday my phone fell off my lap and the "glass screen" cracked. I called customer service today and told them what had happened and since it wasn't covered by the warranty, they expected me to send my phone to them and pay $80 to get it repaired. I'm in the middle of an online semester at college and clearly need my phone to take my online classes and communicate with my classmates for group projects and such. It would be impossible for me to send my phone because I have nothing else I could use instead. Maybe if they had an advanced repair option or something in that line I would've sent it out, but I can't. And they don't sell part replacements, so they told me to search on eBay, Amazon, or other authorized distributors, but they aren't available anywhere. It's really sad how BLU could be one of the big brands right now because the phones work really well, last a long time, have big storage capacity for a great price. But they have terrible customer service and the lack of replacement parts for possible damages on their phones is really worrying. You can't even find a good phone case for it, which takes me to another point in my review: one of the selling points of this phone is that it has a lot of pretty colors, yet it comes with an ugly solid case that covers them up. Then, what's the point of selling a phone in all of these nice colors, if you're gonna include a phone case that covers them up, and also not have clear phone cases available for it at all? It's just very disappointing how small companies with big potential bury themselves like this. I'm definitely not going to purchase BLU phones ever again. I don't want to deal with this terrible customer service, and it is really sad because they have amazing phones, but accidents can always happen and I don't want to be stuck with a phone with a broken screen because they have no replacement parts and no options that actually work for someone in this day and time, seriously how do you expect someone in 2021 to send you their phone for who knows how much time with no options that actually work for them? I bought this phone not even a year ago and now it's as good as garbage, it can't be fixed, nothing can be done. Amazon should be more careful with whom they deal with as distributors, more responsible with the environment, and ask for environmental conscience from their manufacturers. I understand repairs must have a cost, but how come repairing just the glass screen takes half the phone's cost? And asking to send my phone blindly without giving me any alternative during the repair time? Terrible service. Won't buy or recommend it ever again. ... show more
