  • Super impressive for the price
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
I destroyed my previous phone, a $800 "flagship" LGV40 in a pool accident (turns out "waterproof" isn't really waterproof) and bought this as a stopgap while I waited for the next line of flagship phones to drop. I'll be waiting for a while, because this phone is super nice and compares nicely to flagship phones costing 3x or 4x as much. RAM is 4GB and it's plenty and while I'm not sure what the CPU is, the phone is very speedy. The OS is really fast and even pretty intense games run fine. I have the 128GB version so that's nice and you can put in a mciro SD card if you need more space. It's basically stock android and I did miss and need to d/l replacements for a few apps that LG includes -- I got a new gallery app and a notes app that syncs with google. Battery life is fantastic so far. I don't usually charge overnight, just in the car to and from work (about 30 minutes each way) and I've found no issues. Camera is really solid -- maybe not quite up to the LG V 20, but better than the V 40. It's not as good as a top Pixel or iPhone, but the 16 MP lens is surprisingly good. The only issue I've had is there's no way to manually focus the camera which means when trying to take a picture of something small and close (like a spider in a web), it can be hard to keep the phone from focusing on the wrong thing (like a leaf). This is a minor quibble. I like a good camera and I am really pleasantly surprised here, especially as some of the older Blu phones struggled here. There are 3 lenses, but one is for night shots (works very well) and one is a simple 5MP lens for portrait mode. I got the blue version and I really like the shiny, oceany aesthetic (my wife thinks the charging cable looks like a minnow -- it's shiny silver). I realize this may not be eveyone's cup of tea. Screen is 720 x 15??. I mean, it's an HD screen that's six inches diagonal, it looks great. iOS phones and top Androids have higher resolution, but I'm not sure what for, My wife has an XR and I feel this basically looks as good. I guess the phone doesn't have NFC for tap-to-pay and I'm not sure if it supports wireless charging. I don't do either of those things so not an issue for me. What it does have is a 3.5mm headphone jack which is awesome. I have Blutooth headphones, but I like the option to go old-school when needed. It came with all the expected Blu extras -- a case, a screen protector (you need to install it yourself), headphones, and a charger. The case is fine, but it's not an otterbox. I didn't put on the screen protector because it has gorilla glass, but I probably will eventually. Overall I have fallen in love with this phone. I expected it to be good, but now I'm planning to keep it until it dies. Really a great job by Blu on this one. ... show more

  • Fantastic Value!
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
Context -- I'm old, crotchety, cheap, and don't take selfies. This is a fantastic phone and a fantastic value. Upon unboxing, I was struck at how nice it looks. It appears high end. Also, the extras in the box were a pleasant surprise. Now I always buy cheap, so maybe this is more standard than I know. First off, 3.5mm headphones. Hey, you have the jack, might as well. Then I noticed it came with a cheap, clear case. Yay! Free! I don't have to buy a case. Then I noticed it came with a screen protector! Hey! Don't have to buy one of those either! Too easy. $200 all-in for a phone, case, screen protector, and headphones. Set-up and transferring apps/info was easy peasy. Phone is quick, responsive, and I like the particular feel of this phone's haptic feedback. I was switching over to T-Mobile (U.S. customer) and was concerned that this phone does not support all T-Mobile 4G bands. T-Mobile 4G is covered on bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 66, 71. This phone does not support 66 and 71. 4 out of 6 is apparently good enough. I'm in a city and have yet to be without 4G LTE coverage. Also took a trip up and down the east coast this weekend and those missing bands didn't seem to be an issue at all. As for the phone's specs, it simply can't be beat at this price. I wanted a phone with lots of memory (128 gb, check), snappy performance (good chip and 4 gb ram, check), and decent battery life (4000 mAh battery when most phones in this price range have a 3000 mAh, so check). So far, it performs great. No issues, no hiccups, no slowdown. The biggest con of this phone is the lack of NFC, but I don't care. I also don't care about the gimmicky three camera set up, nor do I buy the marketing ploy that the three cameras can form a Voltron-style 96 mb camera. Next time, Blu, one camera (or two cameras at most if you just can't help yourself) and add NFC. I'd also like it to be waterproof but I mean, it's $200. I'd love if it printed money and gave me back massages, but at this price I'm all good. Ultimately it's a smart phone and it does what a smart phone is supposed to do without any issues. And I have never been able to say that about any other phone I've owned. You won't find a better phone at this price. You probably won't find a better phone for twice the price. ... show more

  • Great for the price - needs fine-tuning
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
I've been using the phone for about 6 weeks now, and there's really only one thing that shows that it's a cheaper phone: a lot of the features just need a little fine-tuning that I would assume come with time, enough data from a large enough user base, and the motivation to continually improve and optimize the phone. For example, I've used the phone with multiple bluetooth speakers, and there is too large a jump of volume from one setting to the next, so that the volume either has to be just quiet enough that it's hard to hear or just loud enough to be distracting. I know this makes me sound like a really non-tech savvy person, but I do audio work for a living and I know all about sound. There simply isn't a way to raise the volume in smaller increments. Another example. After I swipe away a notification, the phone will often ask me if I want to stop those notifications since I usually swipe them away instead of tapping on them. That's fine, but it doesn't seem to work either way. If I tap stop showing, they still come up, and if I tap keep showing them, the phone keeps asking me if I want to stop them. The wi-fi mysteriously stops working. Still haven't figured out why, but I'll try to do something on my phone only to discover that I've got a little question mark on my wifi symbol. All I have to do to fix it is turn the wifi off and back on. Not sure what's going on here. If I leave the time zone on automatic based on my location, it puts me in the New York timezone for some reason (I am in Utah), so I have to manually set it and if/when I go to a different time zone I'll have to manually change it. I've also had issues with button sensitivity on the touchscreen. I think it's set just a bit too low; since getting the phone I've found myself having to tap buttons a second time because the first one didn't register. At first I thought it was just me, but my wife (who also just got this phone), has the same problem. The customer service is the same story; my wife's phone screen inexplicably cracked after she'd only had the phone for 5 days. She has no idea how it happened; but it did happen less than 24 hours after she put on the provided screen cover, and so she emailed customer service to see what her options were. Their response was basically that it wasn't a defect of the phone so their warranty won't cover it, but they would repair the screen for $80 + shipping. So it's not like their customer service was atrocious, but definitely not a shining example of amazingness either. TL;DR All the basics are here and it's an incredible phone for the price, but don't be expecting Apple or Samsung levels of refinement and perfection. ... show more

  • The Hype is Legit. Device from USA Miami, Florida Not some Chinese Knock-off
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
Everything on this phone is superb so far. I actually ordered two (and as can sometimes happen, the 2nd phone would NOT come on at all. LOL. That one was returned, and I decided instead to get a 4G tablet for my 2nd device). But for the 1st phone the Blu G9 Pro set up was a breeze. Stuck the TMobile simcard and it worked instantly--could make calls, surf, and sms texting. 4G signal consistent. Screen is bright, crisp, colorful. Speakers are adequate. Device response is fast and accurate. No lags. Videos and music smooth. Battery life so far is good (also bought a wireless charging hub that I placed on my nightstand--no more wires during bedtime and alarm-clock mornings!) and fast charge is really, really great. The included case and screensaver the phone came with is nice and will seem to keep the phone safe for now; they also look to be good quality just like the phone, which has nice glass, sturdy design. For a guy I am not very much into the flashy-fancy patterns but for this phone I am loving the colors and design on it. Seems very well-made but the glass on the back makes me nervous of accidence. There is one heavy duty case I found here on Amazon that I also ordered. I think Blu has done a tremendous job in enginnering this device. I am ALSO glad Blu is an American company and the phone came from Miami, Florida (or at least assembled there...obviously some or most parts are imported)...which means you are NOT getting some cheap Chinese knock-off scam. You are getting a wonderfully legit smartphone that rivals if not is better than iPhone II Pro...that is if price and expandability is factored into the comparison (you cannot add an SDcard with iPhones). It could just be that I am a previous "Blu Virgin" but I am kind of surprised I have not stumbled on a few of these phones in public already, especially for how well-made, designed, and appropriately priced they are...it is no brainer to buy Blu G9 Pro over any of the other $1k or so phones in the market. Blu should definitely go more mainstream beyond Amazon marketplace and hopefully they keep with the same durable design and affordable prices in the future. I will update in a month or two if the phone holds up to my momentary glee and satisfaction. ... show more

  • You Get What You Pay For
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
I have been using this phone for the past four months. Over the four months, the phone has performed pretty well, but I have had four issues with the phone. First, I want to say that this phone has really good specifications for the price, and it is very aesthetic looking. A great camera, a pretty good screen, and AMAZING battery life. Unfortunately, after four months of use, it is clear to me that software issues will keep this phone from lasting much longer. I will go over those issues below. I have already purchased a new phone, and will start using it once it is delivered to me. 1. CORRUPTED OPERATING SYSTEM: About two months into owning this phone, the screen randomly turned black and a message saying something along the lines of "your android operating system has been corrupted, please click to reinstall". I have never seen this before on a phone, and it really scared me because I would lose a lot of data I don't have backed up. Thankfully, when on this screen, I just restarted the phone without accepting to reinstall android. When the phone restarted, everything was back to normal, and none of my data was gone from my phone. 2. SCREEN FREEZES: I have had this problem twice in it's four months of use. The screen just freezes and becomes unresponsive. The only way to fix the problem is to restart the phone. 3. REALLY WEIRD TIME ZONE SETTINGS: I have had the problem once where the time zone would not automatically set correctly. It would automatically set to be an hour ahead of the actual time. I changed the settings to where I manually set the time, but once I locked the phone screen, the time zone setting would be reset to where it was automatic and an hour ahead, instead of manually set. I had to restart the phone to get it to stop doing this. 4. SCREEN RANDOMLY TURNS ON: In the past four days, my phone screen has been randomly turning on. I do not know why it is doing this because I am not getting any notifications, or anything like that. I have restarted the phone several times since this problem began, and it is not going away. CONCLUSION: Overall, I think you get what you pay for with this phone. It has some pretty nice features for the price, but it's not built to last. If you want a phone with a good camera and great battery life, but will only last for not even half a year, then this phone is right for you. Otherwise, I would pay the extra money and go with a more reputable brand. ... show more

  • Pretty Good Phone for the Price, I'm happy with it! :) Pretty Good Phone for the Price, I'm happy with it! :)
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
The Blu G9 Pro is a pretty good phone for the price as far as I'm concerned. + PROS + ~~~~~~~~ + Fantastic Device Craftmanship + Looks Really Great + Very Good Quality + Fantastic Screen Resolution + Really Awesome Audio and Sound + Runs Super Great for 4gb of ram + 128gb of space is definitely plenty + Runs most games including PUBG really good! Heck I can even play Ark Mobile and other high-end games finally! :D + Gets a little warm slightly but its honestly barely noticable so its nothing to worry about imo + Has some bloatware links but it can be disabled and removed easily + Runs on Android 9.0 and says it is upgradable to Android 10 (hopefully Blu will release it around that time but idky just because of things I've seen and heard so only time will tell since that makes me kinda wonder more...) + Pretty Decent Battery Life despite Autodim being slightly annoying - CONS - ~~~~~~~~ - No NFC - No Playmoji (the XL4 had this so I'm not quite sure why this one doesnt) - Autodim Brightness helps saves on battery but never seems to recognize your usage so I turned it off because it keeps turning down the brightness on my phone even when I don't want it to - Blu mentions AR usage in their product info on amazon and the website but doesnt seem to fully support it very well since a game I downloaded said my device has no ARcore or Google Play Services AR - Battery Life doesn't seem as good as the XL4 I have, seems to go down a slightly faster but its decent still - And the biggest reason I took away two stars instead of one is because it honestly feels like Blu has lied to consumers about the Android OS Upgrade which is something they seem to do often. It's almost the end of the first quarter of 2020 and still no news of any Android 10 Update. It also looks like this info was removed from the Amazon Product Page and very easy to overlook on the Blu G9 Pro Product Page as well. This is extremely shady. Why bother promising customers any updates in that case and the company isn't following through except when they feel like it which is not acceptable, no wonder there's smh and doubt about it all across the internet. = VERDICT = ~~~~~~~~~~~ So far I am very happy with my new G9 Pro Phone from Blu even though there are a few things that I was rather disappointed about mainly being lied to about the OS Upgrade. Overall I'm happy enough with it and the quality behind it that I don't regret getting it whatsoever and I would probably still get a G10 or whatever next comes down the road when that says anything about it. ... show more

  • Its a great phone for $200
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
We bought this for our son. He's weird that he cant tell a $1k phone from a $200. I guess it doesnt matter to him as long as it works and does what he needs it to do. I have used the phone. Its really smooth right now switching apps is a snap. It has split screen which on a cheap phone is amazing. You can watch YOUTUBE and be on INSTRAGRAM at the same time! YouTube will not show full screen you'll have black bars on either side of the screen. No its not an app switcher its actually two instances running at the same time on one screen. Screen is bright and beautiful, the battery should last pretty long for what he uses it for. The Type C connector is a wonderful upgrade from MICRO. Does it fast charge? Well... sort of.. It comes with an adaptive charger so it does charge faster then your normal brick charger. Which leads me to wireless charging! Wireless charging is great works even with the case on. Dont be afraid of buying a cheap wireless charger. They work great! Even if you buy a fast wireless charger the phone will only charge at 10 watts and thats ok for overnight charging. Dont even try to play games above Minesweeper you'll be like UGHHHHH.. The phone does the basis stuff VERY well, Email, FB, IG, YT, Text and we havent tried DUO yet but Im sure that should work well also. ... show more

  • Without doubt the BEST mobile device I've ever owned
Style: G9 Pro Color: Nightfall
I absolutely LOVE this BLU G9 Pro phone. When my Samsung Galaxy S8 started to crap out on me (it would periodically overheat and shut down, some apps would flake out, SMS apps started randomly crashing) I went on the hunt for a new wireless device. I knew I wanted something with a bigger screen and I wanted something that had more storage and working memory and wasn't loaded with bloatware. I spent literally over 30 hours reading reviews, watching videos, reading articles, and so on until I landed on the phone that seemed perfect for me: the BLU G9 Pro. From the moment it arrived from Amazon I was delighted. This phone is not only very fast, bloatware-free and has a big, brilliant display, the device itself is very, VERY sexy looking (I choose the blue gradient case). I've already had several people comment on how gorgeous my phone is. Now I know why so many people have said this is the absolute BEST phone you can buy under $200. Frankly, at that price, this phone is a steal. The only "negative" I can identify is that this phone is very slippery due to its slick rear case. I've had it slide off of a stack of papers or books a time or two, but thanks to the Gorilla Glass there was no harm done! Of all the mobile devices I've owned to date, this is without a doubt my favorite. If you're unsure about diving in, you can take it from me -- go for it. I doubt that you'll be disappointed. PROS: - Super fast - Brilliant display - Sexy design - Loads of storage and working memory - No bloatware - Gorilla Glass - USB-C connector - Fast charging - 4000 mah battery CONS: - This phone is SLICK (as in slippery) Loving my BLU G9 Pro. ... show more
