  • I was completely entralled by this dark but delicious retelling of Dracula!!
Format: Kindle
📚Blood Orange📚 By: @authorhalle Genre: Dark Romance POV: Duel POV and timeline Setting: Venice Italy Tropes: Retelling, Teacher/Student, Vampire/Slayer/Witch, Dark Romance, Kinks Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 Review: First off I would like to thank @booksandashes for inviting me to her book club and introducing me to this book!! It was SO good and I absolutely loved it! This book is a retelling of Bram Stokers Dracula and the vibes from the classic are definitely but this story becomes it's own thing. I absolutely loved all the nods to the classic while also enjoying the twists and turns as the new story builds on itself. There is an element of spine tingling horror and suspense as well as some of the hottest spice I have ever read 🥵. Then just to put the cherry on top there is an epic romance that has stood the test of time. This book checked ALL the boxes for me. Dahlia is a witch, taken in by the guide after her parents died and trained to be a vampire slayer. Her newest mission; kill the infamous and notorious Dracula aka Valtu. With her glamor in place and backstory in place she takes on the role as one of Valtu’s music students in Venice. But as she tries to get close to Valtu to complete her mission she's plagued by dreams of something eerily familiar that has her questioning everything. Valtu is over 300 years old and one of the worlds most well known vampires. His life has been riddled with unspeakable tragedy and pain, but he works to make amends for his past transgressions while also trying to forget. He teaches music which brings him joy and he owns and operates a club where Vampires can feed from consenting humans without killing them. Life is predictable until her sees his new student Dahlia. These two get caught up in an all consuming passion that has a life of it's own, fueled by something neither can quite put a finger on. It's dark, it's explosive, and dangerous but it's inevitable. In the midst of it all there are more sinister things at play that want to pull them apart. This story just had me completely engrossed until the very end. And that ending 😱😩. Thank God for the epilogue!! I downloaded the second book in this duet immediately and I can't wait to devour that one as well. If you love dark romance with a touch or horror then you will LOVE this book!!! 😍 ... show more

  • 4+ stars for this Dracula retelling of second chance romance (with a twist)
Format: Kindle
When fall season rolls around, I'm all in for my books to be a little more dark and sinister and giving me something a bit different. And boy did Karina Halle bring the paranormal, dark and steamy with this Dracula retelling. Coming into Blood Orange, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew we were getting a Dracula retelling, but it was so much more than that. It's a story of love and loss, second chance romance (with a twist) and fated mates. "I will find you again. I will find you in another lifetime. My heart will always find yours." We start out with a prologue that has you feeling for Valtu (aka Dracula). It's his story of the past, his love of a woman, losing that love in a horrendous way and how he came to be the Dracula we know. If you know Ms Halle, she kills us with her prologues and has you fully invested right off the bat. Fast forward to the present and we meet Valtu in Venice as a music teacher. But in between his time of teaching, he also tells us his story of his past and his love and loss while being a vampire and how that has affected who he is today. Enter Dahlia. A witch that is a vampire hunter sent to Venice by the guild to study music with the ultimate intent to kill Valtu (Dracula) and get a book back that belongs to the witches. But what she doesn't realize is that the dreams she keeps having that seem so real has her connected to Valtu in a way she can never even possibly begin to imagine. This story was original, beyond spicy and full of great interactions between all the characters. The tension and chemistry is off the charts between Dahlia and Valtu. You will not want to skip any of the sex scenes. Trust me. But it was so much more than the intense sex. There was something else between these two that had you invested in their attraction. It goes deeper and more emotional than what one might expect. Add in the darkness that is lurking around Venice and this becomes the perfect story for the spooky season for you (dark) romance lovers. Blood Orange was not what I was expecting....in the best way! It is so much more. Karina Halle gives us the best scenes between some amazing characters and will have you loving the organ as not only a musical instrument, but as the best backdrop. #iykyk "And you keep playing. And I'll play you.......Your body is an instrument itself....Submit." Dive in and enjoy an intense and emotional dark ride between opposites that are fated. That epilogue will definitely leaving you wanting more from Valtu/Dracula. I simply cannot wait to see what happens next in this duet with Black Rose. ... show more

  • Ok read with lots of spice
Format: Kindle
This one was ok for me. I enjoy Karina Halle's imagination, but some of the characters are sometimes a bit flat. The romance is Roman ing and the spice is spicing, but the story feels a bit forced at times. Good palate cleanser between heavier reads I think.
