  • Solid phone with great keyboard
Color: Slate
First off, you have to really want a keyboard to make this purchase. Otherwise, look somewhere else. With that said, here is my short bullet list review Me: - Millennial - Full Time student - Work 15+ hours a week. - Have personal clients - Don't play too many games Pros: - Very easy to manage schedule - May take a minute to learn interface. Pretty simple after that - So far the phone run's very smoothly - Love the quick feature. Reduces my search app time as well as my home screen clutter - The screen quality is good. All pictures and videos are nice and clear - The weight is good. Not too light, not too heavy - I get complemented on my phone... Who would have thought? - Keyboard has a nice matte, allowing better tactile response. - Great battery life. (Possibly bcs it has a new battery) Cons - Speaker sux. The quality isn't bad, but it definitely doesn't sound as good as my iphone. - Front camera sux. I will never use it. - Typing and holding the phone takes some getting used too due to it being top heavy - Can only adjust screen brightness - Not the most sturdy phone out there. It's built with quality, but a lot of plast too. Additional info - Phone comes with some bloatware, not much different than my iphone SE or my samsung s7. - Rear Camera is ok. - Blackberry softwear is trying a bunch of stuff (ex: BB Hub). Not my thing, but you may like it. Overall, I think it's a great phone for someone longing for a keyboard. If not, then I thin you can find a better phone for the price point. ... show more

  • Blackberry succeeded in surprising me a 3rd time.
Color: Slate
I've been a blackberry lover since the original blackberry curve came out. That phone lasted me 3 years with only replacing the ball once. I still have it and it still works. I spent years bouncing through Samsung galaxies and notes and eventually, with my professional career growing, I decided phones that were great for pictures and facebook would no longer cut it for me. I bought a blackberry PRIV when they came out. Almost 4 years now and I just now upgraded, and only because the battery would occasionally come disconnected internally, which might be from when I dropped it out of my pocket over 18 feet from an atic onto a concrete floor over 2 years ago. No, nothing broke, not even the screen. So, I decided to buy another blackberry. At first I really missed my PRIV being a slider but this one grew on me very quick. The keys have a deeper press which is much easier to type true on than the PRIV. I do miss the trackpad the PRIV offered since I used it regularly to remote into my PC at work and made it very easy to track through typos vs dragging my calased, cut up fingers across the screen. But I can't complain much since everything else about this phone is a huge step up. The fingerprint scanner is unbelievably perfect, even with cuts on my fingers. I never have trouble logging in to anything at all on the first attempt, and no I have not been able to get anyone to successfully log in with their own finger, and the tried, a lot. Fiance even tried using my finger in my sleep and somehow it knew and asked for additional authentication. Possibly learned my sleep vs waking hours? Idk. The speaker is definitely downgraded from the PRIV, sounding very monotone and music definitely sounds like an old cassette player but I use Bluetooth 95% of the time for music playback. The phone feels very rigid, despite its moderate weight. The power center control is phenomenal, I went 3 days without a charge over the holidays. Simply set up app resolutions, frame rates, etc, and even place a monitor on apps that use RAM when they shouldn't. Excellent battery life. I love this phone like I did my curve and PRIV alike. Blackberry did well on this phone. ... show more

  • Verizon User
Color: Slate
I brought the phone into a Verizon store because of some of the recommendations from some of the reviews here. I asked them about possible issues with text messages, and they had no idea what I was talking about. They recommended I call tech support if I have any issues. Well, I've had the phone for about four hours now, I've used about 10% of the battery setting crap up, and so far, I've yet to have issues. I know I can receive text messages because of the multi-factor authentication texts I received, but apparently all of my friends are sleeping. I've yet to have anyone respond to one (EDIT: The next morning, people started to respond to my test texts, so the texting did work right out of the box). My biggest peeve with modern mobile device technology is that I just don't like touch screens. They are cool as a peripheral tool, but having to use a touch screen as a primary input device is something that drives me batty especially when I have to type. I watched this phone for a few months waiting to see what the public reaction would be before I pulled the trigger on it. One thing I can say after four hours of use: It has been a long time since I've been able to say I've had a pleasant experience trying to accomplish anything productive on a phone. I can honestly say that using this device tonight was actually pleasant. The best part about it was simple. I put off getting a new phone for far too long because having to enter my email address and password a dozen times to set up all of the apps was not something I was looking forward to doing on a touchscreen. I blew through all of that with ease. Some quick notes about the phone itself: -The touch screen is slightly different. I would call it a little sluggish compared to Android and Apple products. I actually kind of like it, but it takes some getting used to. -The Blackberry Hub is a cool idea, but I've had integration issues. So far, I've been successful in migrating everything over, but I don't have the same functionality. That means I have to go find the original app anyway. The one really annoying thing is that the Hub is accessed by swiping from the right edge of the screen. This can be very annoying if you accidentally hit it while trying to swipe across your desktop (note: The new Android Q operating system is going to incorporate "back" and "home" buttons that swipe from the bottom of the screen. I find this to be a horrible idea because this phone also came with Google Messenger that was activated by swiping from the bottom, and I was constantly accidentally activating that as well. I did find out how to disable both apps, but it's a bit of extra work for those who are sensitive to this kind of thing). -The phone comes stock with a bunch of shortcuts. I remember this from my first Blackberry device way back in 2008. They were extremely handy for someone who is using a Smart Phone for the first time, but they are mostly useless to someone who already has everything set up. I deleted most of them. -Blackberry has a cool button that you can use to set up your own shortcuts. I don't know if this feature exists on Apple or other Android devices. If it does, I never found it. I had completely forgotten about it. Being able to set up 30 different shortcuts makes doing what you want to do extremely efficient. -One huge negative....the slot that holds the sim chip and the SD card is atrocious. It's an itty bitty slot. You have to have extremely good balancing skills to get the SIM chip and the SD card to stay on the stupid tray as you try to put it into the phone. You also need a tiny paperclip to get the slot open. Not a fan of this minor design "feature". -I'm also not a fan of the 3.5 mm jack being on the top of the phone. I'd prefer it to be on the bottom next to the charger port so that the wires can remain tidy while the phone is docked in my car. Overall, I'm very happy with the phone. I'd like to set a trend, here. Touchscreen phones are virtually unusable for me. My experience on this in the short time I've had it has been amazing. I feel like a 32 year old kid picking up my very first Blackberry back in 2007. Because of my struggles with modern smart phones, I actually began to feel like the information world, of which I had always been an early adopter, had started to leave me behind. This device is a breath of fresh air. It gives me exactly what I need to be successful and productive in this environment. Thank you, Blackberry, for sticking to your guns on this. ... show more

  • Do not buy from Amazon, Works great on Verizon
Color: Slate
Love the phone, but I absolutely regret buying it from Amazon. Price dropped fifty dollars hours after I purchased and Amazon refused to credit me the difference. Please purchase from Best Buy instead, they have excellent customer service. I want to note that the phone works flawlessly with Verizon. I was concerned based on other reviews, but I did not need a new Sim card and had no trouble with text messages or any other aspect of setup. If you are already a Verizon customer, simply log into your account on a computer and click on activate or change device in the device menu. The directions will walk you through the setup. The Sim card from my Samsung Galaxy S8 was compatible. You can also transfer everything over from your old phone over wifi. I loved my Blackberries in the 2000s. This one is not as easy to type on since the device is so thin. But for me it is the best of both worlds. Great android features with a retro keyboard. ... show more

  • Major problems
Color: Slate
Edit: After using this phone, I have discovered there are major connectivity problems. With some wifi routers, the phone just won't connect. Sometimes, data from the 4G network stalls. I have missed tons of important messages and the phone is just not reliable enough for daily business use. The dual SIM feature has major bugs. I have read through forums to fix these problems and it's all way above my level...the engineers should have done more testing before putting this thing out to market. Majorly disappointed and this will be my last Blackberry. I updated to this from the Priv, which I have loved using for the last three years. The Priv gave me the option to move between keyboard and screen easily, but adjusting to keyboard only has been easy because the Key2 LE keyboard is really great. I needed a basic android phone that I can use for texting and answering emails on the go, and so far it's been perfect. It seems fast as lightning after updating from the Priv. The speed key and convenience key are both nice touches. The fingerprint sensor lets me unlock the phone much more quickly. Overall, I'm really happy with this phone after years of resisting a keyboard only phone. It's probably not for everyone, but it works perfectly for how I use a phone. ... show more

  • Best BlackBerry ever!
Color: Slate
UPDATE -- Setting up Verizon Message+ or Messages: You need to tell Verizon that they need turn on feature "CDMA LESS" to activate your Key 2. After that you can use Verizon Cloud to move your messages from your old phone to the new. Best phone ever! I always liked physical keyboard phones. I am not a multimedia consumer, I am content producer. I write emails, forum posts, and take notes, so a functional real keyboard is a must. I went from Palm Treo to Motorola Droid, then unfortunately to Samsung, then to BlackBerry PRIV. I tried a Samsung S8 with a keyboard cover but I didn't care for it. Half of the keys were not working, and it was not back-lit, can't see keys in the dark. This brought me to this new BlackBerry Key 2. I hesitated at first, thinking a Chinese made Blackberry won't be the same. Damn I was wrong about that! Nowadays all phones are made in China, and this one is at least as good as all others. They keyboard is a joy to use! It is softer than my old Priv's keyboard, and I can type faster. All the keys are familiar. Synching, transferring content, and setting it up was a breeze. The fastest setup ever. Love this new phone. I may miss the larger screen of my olf PRIV, but not anything else. Everything else is so much better! This is an unlocked phone, so I was able to remove most of the bloatware. It can use two SiMs, which is extremely handy when traveling abroad, or when wanting to combine your business and personal life, although I haven't tried is yet. Best new feature -- a free mobile Hotspot. You can get this on unlocked phones, not Verizon phones. Verizon wants to charge you extra for that. Anyway, absolutely no regrets! ... show more

  • Good phone, poor tracking of monthly android security updates...
Color: Slate
I like the phone -- great battery life, super keyboard. However, I bought the phone figuring that blackberry would be providing monthly security updates for Android, since they're supposed to be "security" focused. It's now almost May 2019, and the phone still has the February 2019 security update. I contacted Blackberry, and was told that that was the latest update for this device. I pointed out that security updates are released by Google monthly and I was expecting that Blackberry would be following these updates fairly closely, but this point was greeted with silence. Bottom line: don't buy this phone if timely tracking of security updates is important to you. ... show more

  • A Great Phone for Work and Fun
Color: Slate
Could not give a higher endorsement of a phone. After using an iphone for years I was hesitant to switch but I am very glad I did. First and foremost this is a great phone for work. As an attorney I rely heavily on my phone. The ease of use is unparalleled. I was please with how intuitive the phones features are. Speed and accuracy are very important to me and this phone delivers both. Paring the phone with my other devices was seamless. From a functionality standpoint this phone has everything. I can pull up documents, review and edit as if I were working from my laptop. The Blackberry allows me to do all my work from my phone if I need to. The camera is heads and tails above any other phone I've owned. With two small kids I put a premium on picture quality. Storage is perhaps my favorite feature of this phone. With my iphone I had to purchase additional cloud storage and never really knew how to access that data. With the Blackberry, everything is on my phone and I never worry about storage. I also really like the look and feel of this phone. I actually enjoy using my phone now. Many of my friends and colleagues noticed when I switched to the Blackberry and I've told all of them how happy I am with it. If you haven't used a Blackberry in a while don't be afraid to come back. The phone is very user friendly and extremely intuitive. BUY THIS PHONE. ... show more
