First thoughts when I opened the case was it has a weird paint or packing smell, I think it's coming from the frog on the bow but the smell does fade so no big deal. Then I saw one of the strings was popped off and the other strings were on the side which again not a big deal but definitely weird way to ship it. If you are new to violin this may give you panic but once it is setup properly it's really nice and sounds great. It comes with a good instruction booklet, read that first to set it up but if you are new also Google how to setup a violin for beginners. Hello Violin YouTube channel has steps by step instructions. The violin itself is a nice glossy black color with silver pearl specs. My camera couldn't pick up the color well because of the glossy reflection but it is really nice paint. Setting up the bridge was typical with it popping out a few times until the strings are just right. The bow is not the best quality bow, the frog is cheaper quality than my electric violin bow but it sounds and works fine. I will eventually buy a better bow to replace it. I had to tune is several times and eventually it stayed in tune but for the first several days like most string instruments has to be tuned often. The tuner, rosin, shoulder rest and mute all work as expected. The case is nice and solid and everything including the shoulder rest fit perfectly inside. I wish it had come with some microfiber cloths to clean it after playing. I didn't use the fingerboard stickers and don't plan to. I'm very happy with this Violin kit. I cannot say enough good things about this item! Everything you need to get started is included with this set, from the rosin, to a tuner, to a removable sticker that shows you fret/note locations! I am a complete novice with violin and just starting out and using the included instructions; I was able to set mine up within 15 minutes from unpacking to playing. I did find it a little more challenging to get it tuned for the first time, but I am chalking that up to learning the ropes. I found that pushing the pins in as I turned them made them a lot more solid and less likely to fall out of tune. The rosin portion was confusing to me, but after some trial and error, I figured it out. Likewise, take some time to adjust the shoulder pad to your preferred comfort level, as it was different between mine and my wife’s settings. The sound coming from the violin is clean, clear and rich and for not knowing too much about it, I am stoked that I can get it to sound so good right out of the box!
