  • Not warm at 20 degrees
Size: Small Color: Black
Black diamond brand is pretty popular & known for their durability and warmth , and while these are very durable gloves, they are not at all warm. I war is on a hike in Colorado in 20° weather and my hands were absolutely frozen, I had to wear a thin wool pair of gloves under them and still my hands were cold. Don’t waste your money ... show more

  • Nice gloves, not good for under 15°
Size: Large Color: Black
Don’t work if you’re in weather under 10-15°. Great otherwise. Very grippy palms, tight fit.

  • Black Diamond used great materials for these and it shows
Size: Small Color: Black
I bought a pair of these a couple years ago and I'm back buying a pair for my mother. BD has separate sizing for men's and women's gloves and these use the men's sizing chart. Having said that, they do run small as the other reviewers have stated so you may want to order a size up. Black Diamond used great materials for these and it shows, the Oil Tac leather used in the palms gives great grip and has held up well to the abuse I've put them through. They use 40-gram Thinsulate for insulation, which is a good compromise between warmth and dexterity. I have never had a problem with my hands being cold while wearing them, but I've also never used them for hours at a time in temps well below freezing. The fact that the fabric is rolled over the finger so there's no seam on the fingertip is the reason I originally bought these. There's another company whose gloves I usually stick with that does this because it gives you a bit of an advantage in dexterity, but this is the first time I've seen anyone else do it. All in all, I would definitely recommend them, especially if you plan on getting in any snowball fights anytime soon. ... show more

  • Pretty good gloves for the money
Size: Large Color: Black
I used these gloves for a season of mountaineering in the PNW. They kept my hands comfortable down to temperatures around 15°F. Probably would work in colder places if you are moving. They would get a bit warm at times when climbing but otherwise they were quite versatile. These gloves are also pretty water resistant. We were constantly plunging our hands in snow (often slushy snow) and getting lightly rained on and these gloves would stay dry on the inside. They would also dry out very quickly which is important on multiday mountaineering trips! I used these once for rock climbing during a downpour. Even with direct pressure from my hands on wet rock these gloves stayed dry for a surprising length of time (about an hour, probably). Eventually, though, they soaked through as just about anything would in those conditions! Finally, I bought two pairs of these gloves, one for my wife at REI and this pair on Amazon because REI only had one pair left. They were perfect for us because the fingers in these gloves are longer than normal, so you don't get that weird webbed finger feel that you get from some gloves. ... show more

  • Seriously Excellent Gloves
After being a ski coach for two winters in Vermont and living in Maine for 6 years, I feel that I am very qualified to evaluate gloves! In my experience, Black Diamond gloves are always excellent quality, I often prefer them to gloves made by other manufactures. These gloves are warm without being too thick. You maintain dexterity. They are easy to put on and they are definately waterproof. I wore them shoveling out my car just a few days ago and despite being in direct contact to plenty of snow, my hands stayed totally dry. I like the short cuff design as I usually prefer to pull my jacket cuff over the glove. These work well for that style of wear. I really can't recommend these enough. They are well made and I don't feel like the price is too high considering the quality you get. If you are a skier and you like the marker spring glove you will like these as well. The style and fit are similar, these might conform less to your hand over time, but you get waterproof and a little more warmth. ... show more

  • Excellent mid weight glove
Size: Large Color: Black
Excellent mid weight glove, just not quite as waterproof as I hoped. Heavy rain or wet snow will soak mine through pretty quickly. Have used them mountaineering in the summer, hunting in the fall and skiing in the spring, and as long as it isn't too wet, I love them for their grip and dexterity.

  • Amazing gloves for active outdoor activities
Size: Large Color: Black
These are amazing gloves for their purpose. They are more lightweight than typical ski gloves but have enough insulation in then to keep your hands warm to around 15 degree. Their palms are a rubberized style that is sticky/grippy down past 15 degrees. I use them for warmer ski days inbounds, colder snowshoe trips and, of course, ski mountaineering. Haven't had any waterproof leaks yet and my hands only get chilled when I was stopped in 30+mph constant winds at 7000ft. A little hand or body movement brought my hands back to toasty warm. ... show more

  • Not warm enough
Size: Large Color: Black
I bought these gloves for walking the dog on cold Washington D.C. mornings, and happened to get them the week of the 2016 blizzard. The first morning was 20-25 degrees, without snow; my fingers went numb within 15 minutes. When the snow came I shoveled snow and walked the dog — upper teens to low 20s — wearing these gloves and two thinner gloves underneath (North Face Polartec and a thinner glove that was basically a not-warm liner). Even with three layers, my fingers got numb within 15 minutes. On the plus side, my hands stayed dry. But that's little consolation; if you need the gloves for water resistance — i.e. from snow — then it's cold enough that you also need to keep your hands warm. ... show more
