This is a delightful hand tool! It takes a lot to earn a five star rating from me - products have to feel good in the hand, be well made, suit the purpose they are intended for, andbe an exceptional value. Wow, this fan rake really delivers! I have just used this rake for two mornings in a row to clean out a messy old bed full of nasty ivy, using a heavy duty trowel to dig it out, then this well-balanced rake to both clean and grade the soil. The next morning I used this rake to tidy up an established bed full of leaves blown in by a storm, dying tulip leaves, and soil/mulch that needed to be worked over. The tines are springy, sturdy, and the right width to get between my current roses and ferns. The grip is easy on my hand - so easy, I'm going to see if Black and Decker make any other hand tools. I like the balance of the rake, too; it doesn't feel heavy. Lots of arthritis, so I'm pretty picky about my hand tools. This would be a wonderful gift for a gardener you know. Well made. The bend angle of the tines give enough pressure to move and lift plant materials without excavating the soil. Other brands were too aggressive or were more of a broom than a rake.

    • Works well
I have two enormous camphor trees that drop leaves year-round, lots and lots of leaves. The shrubs underneath get inundated with piles of leaves that have to be regularly removed because the camphor in the leaves poisons the soil and makes life difficult for anything else trying to grow underneath. This little tool has made the job of clean-up immensely easier. It can work around closely-spaced plants without damaging them, and it's sturdy enough to pull out big clumps of leaves with every motion. If it holds up over time (I've only been using it for a few months) then this will be one of the best garden purchases I've ever made. ... show more

I use this in the flower bed and have a second one just to pick up after the doggies. So handy and easy to use. Can't say enough good things about this hand-held rake! Just bought my 3rd one.

    • Spanish Moss Removable...GREAT!
Love it ! But I am using this in an unconventional manner. I have problems keeping the spanish moss under control around our home and though I can't get all of it I at least won't to remove what is possible. Couldn't find anything that would help me do this so I came up with the idea to get a lightweight aluminum boat pole this is adjustable up to 14 feet. I then ordered this rake. My husband attached this rake to the boat pole and presto chango we have a spanish moss remover. It reaches over 14 feet of course, grabs the moss and pull it off. As I said it doesn't get all of it but it does allow removable of bunches of it that could not be reached before. So, my idea works thanks to this rake! ... show more

    • Worked Wonderfully!
We have a lot of work to do in our back yard, which we are in the process of giving a facelift. The bane of my existence back there, aside from the ditch seeping through the wall, is the flower bed. The trees above have dropped and dropped so much foliage and it's impossible to get in there with a large rage without damaging the peonies. The only time to do it and not worry is in the fall. There are also little black berries the like to pop up so that makes it a little more challenging! Well, today we did a lot of work back there and I decided to bust out my new little fan rake purchase. It worked like a dream. With how high the flower bed is, I have to get UP IN to the area and squat to clear out the back part. What would have taken ages doing by hand or wrestling with a big rake I got through in an hour. Though old black berry vines and new ones got caught up in this, they were easy to untangle. Not only that, but if my young string succulents were caught up, they were easy to tug out and stuff back into the ground as well. Might buy another for the front yard. Will be recommending to friends and family, especially those who maintain flower beds. Seriously, a dream! ... show more

Haven't used it yet so it only gets 4 stars. It appears to be well made and will work well for what I intended -- getting leaves out from tight spaces and around more delicate bushes. I like that the tines are fairly stiff, they should hold up well.
