  • Like walking on water!
Color: Storm Surge Set name: Propeller
I average 3-4 m.p.h. according to the Garmin when pedaling. You can pedal and paddle at the same time (I maxed @5 m.p.h.) though it is a bit more than chewing gum and walking at the same time while trolling fishing poles. I only got in 13.4 miles in today before the storms. Last week I did 27.3 in 6 hours while trolling with only one pee break. Catching multiple species along the way in my nearest reservoir. I have been pedalling almost exclusively for 75.9 miles, though the craft does also paddle surprisingly well with all of my gear. All is has been as advertised; you can stand stable and easily in low waves though pivoting while standing around is more limited than with a Hobie, the ability to maneuver while fishing is easy, awesome and inspires the green-eyed monster among other anglers I have found. The miles do melt away in this thing. I found the pedal drive stiff at first (Like riding a mountain bike up a slight incline with 2 flat tires). It is not totally weedles yet it is easy to clean. I am glad it has loosened up. All in all, this is a great deal with multiple built-in features. I hope they upgrade the peddle drive someday so I may upgrade on this awesome boat. ... show more

  • Quality Kayak, late pedal drive
Color: Camo Set name: Propeller
UPDATE: I finally got the pedal drive from the seller! It's a heavy duty pedal drive with mostIy metal parts. I haven't had a chance to take it out on the water. But it fits on the kayak perfectly. I was able to do test pedal in the air sitting down while "hovering" above two benches, however. My only issue is that you need to take off the drive cover before raising the pedal drive. So just be sure you have enough time to do this before getting towards shallow waters. LAST REVIEW: The kayak is great quality and I appreciate the added handles and hooks for additional straps. Its a heavy boat, but that is the trade off for stability and an all around comfortable ride. The seat is comfortable and adjustable. Id say its definitely in to pare with Hobees and Old Towns as both my brothers own each. It even came with a paddle, although you might want to replace it with something more sturdy. Nice as an extra however. All together the kayak itself is worth the investment. I cant say much about the pedaling however, the kayak was delivered without the pedal drive (sort of the whole reason for buying this $1600 kayak). Ive been going back and forth with BKC customer service for a MONTH to try to get a replacement. The 1st replacement went missing during shipment (3 weeks)and the 2nd (shipped 2-3day priority) one does not show USPS receiving it. Ive called and email USPS with the tracking number I was given and they have no record of receiving the package. Ive already missed chances to get on the water, notably a long planned family pedal kayak trip. We all planned to get pedal kayaks together and I was stuck with a pedal kayak without a pedal drive. Id love to bump up the review stars, but without a pedal drive (that I paid for) I cant in good conscience do so until its actually sent out. ... show more

  • Peddle power! Very stable and safe, easy to use! Free shipping!
Color: Electric Eel Set name: Propeller
I end up giving this five stars, based upon the cake itself and the customer service. It could’ve been one star it could’ve been five, but Issac save the day. The kayak ships into containers, when the kayak and the other of the peddle drive. Shipping was free, which was great, except for the peddle drive did not arrive. So I was all excited to put it together and get out on the lake, but we couldn’t. I emailed and called BKC Customer service, and I was like where is the apologetic and did everything he could to get the drive to me as soon as he could. When it did arrive, it was broken, so I was not happy. Again, Isaac was talking to me on the phone daily to make sure that I got a replacement in a timely fashion. At the end of the day, We love the Kayak! My wife has bad shoulders and has not been able to kayak with me, now she can! I did a lot of research on options and I think the price in value was really good. But at the end of the day when shipping and other issues went bad, it was the customer service that made a difference, and so I send my thanks to Isaac for doing everything he could to get things right! ... show more

  • Love my kayak!
Color: Storm Surge Set name: Propeller
I absolutely love my kayak! I’ve taken it fishing a few times, and it’s been an amazing experience every time. It’s stable, easy to maneuver, and perfect for enjoying the water. I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can get back out there and make more great memories. Highly recommend it!

  • Very disappointed, pedals don't work and company makes promises and doesn't deliver
Color: Blue Typhoon Set name: Propeller
I purchased this kayak and was very excited to use it after saving up and getting what I felt was a quality product. I was so excited in fact that I convinced my friends to purchase one as well. When it arrived I was thrilled, the first time I put it on water I was over the moon, until......... I began to pedal. The pedal drive was manufactured incorrectly and when I pushed the pedal forward, the kayak moved backward. I tried to see if I could fix it myself, and the company sent me a series of videos , however they left out the most important one, and after watching I realized I don't have the tools needed and would feel better If they would just fix it. So I asked for a replacement pedal drive. After 2 months of asking and being given the run around they reluctantly said ok. Now on their webpage these are almost 1000.00 and I asked if I could send the bad one back and have them send the good one, they said, oh no we will send the new one to you no need to return it. That was another 2 months ago and I am still getting the run around. First it's well its a special part and we need to wait, then oh we need your contact details, now we need your address to ship direct, then oh we will send you a tracking number ......... blah blah blah. I asked for a return and money back..... no response, just we will let you know when we receive it , or we will send your tracking number , or just ghosting. Amazon says it is about the customer , this company may respond to the emails and messages quickly but their bias for action and commitment to their customer is beyond poor. I now have a kayak that I spent a ton of money on that does not work like it's supposed to and the company seems indifferent to correcting THEIR poor product. Sadly , I have to say, if the kayak had worked like they said I would be giving it a great review, instead I am cautioning you to stay away from them, they don't seem to care about their customers. ... show more

  • Brooklyn Kayak Company BKC PK-13 Pedal Drive Kayak Delivered March 23, 2020
Color: Camo Set name: Propeller
There are a few things that I would like to share since the purchase of the BKC PK-13 Kayak. 1). No More Paddling (Well A Least Not All The Time) ie Shallow Water (Less Than 1.5 Foot) and Also When Launching and Pulling The Kayak Out of The Water, You Have To Keep The Pedal Drive Out Of The Water. The Pedal Drive Has Now Aquired This Clicking Sound When Pedaling and The Plastic Cover That Covers The Hole That The Drive Goes In Rubs Ups Against The Pedal Drive and Makes Noise As Well. 2). Instant Reverse (Sort Of) If You Are In Current Good Luck. 3). Hand Controlled Rudder ( The Turning Ratio Is Very Wide and The Rudder Doesn't Stay In Place If You Want To Go Staright Ahead. You Constantly Have To Have Your Hand On The Rudder Control To Get Where You're Going. 4). The Seat Is Very Comfortable ( If you Can Get The Staps to Stay Put and The Straps Not To Keep Sliding On You). My Straps Are Done They Will Not Even Hold The Back Rest Up When I lean Back On It. Going To Buy Some Cam Lock Lever Buckles To See If This Remedies The Problem. Stability Is Great ( When You Are Sitting Down. Standing Up In It, Not So Great) I am 5'10" 195lbs and Pretty Athletic and I am Still Tense About Standing Up In This Kayak As It Feels Wobbly. 5). Accessories ( They Have Two Mounting Areas One On Each Side Of The Kayak Near The Grab Handles To Mount Accessories. If You Would Like To Mount Other Accessories Good Luck. You Have One Acces To The Hull And That Is In The Rear And You have to Go Through The Provided Hatch Area To Access It Wich Limits You To What And Where You Can Mount Anything. This Is A Heavy Akward Kayak To Try And Carry. I Have Been Out In This Kayak 15 Times Since Delivery On March 23 2021 In The Lagoons, Rivers And Marsh Areas Of NE Florida (New Symrna/Daytona/Titusville Areas). Will Be Taking This Kayak Out To The Ocean In May. Would I Purchase Again Knowing What I know Now? Only If It Was At A Lower Price. Speaking Of A Lower Price. They Are Selling Their Kayaks Cheaper If You Buy Directly From Their Website. Wish I would Have Know This Before Purchasing, Could have save me $300.00 ... show more

  • Stable fishing platform!
Color: Storm Surge Set name: Propeller
This is my answer for a person enquiring as to this boat's performance in the ocean. I thought it would also make a good critique. This being my first foot power boat, in this respect, I don’t have a great deal of experience to make a good comparison. That being said I have been an avid salt water kayak angler for more years than I care to mention. This boat uses a standard pedal drive that is used on other kayak models, and performs well within my expectations. I have only owned this boat for a couple months, but have managed to get out in a couple of 2 flag days. This boat is incredibly stable, maneuvers well, and tracks through the water well. The hull design is great. I would only criticize this boat in that it’s not terribly friendly for after market modifications because of the lack of access to the inner hull. This makes it difficult to install back plates for rod holders etc. I also replaced some of the shock cords and some of the connecting hardware with heaver guage components. I have just started using this boat in fresh water, and was standing up fly casting to trout the other day. So I guess the short answer is yes take it out in the ocean. The above photos are of the fully rigged boat. I have not added an anchor trolly. With the pedal drive I just don't see the necessity. I would also like to add that this boat is substantially lighter than comparative models on the market right now. It still allows me to manage transporting this boat on the roof of my car. I would give 4.5 stars if that was an option. The criticisms I have are genuine and preclude a full five stars. ... show more
