I live in a small apartment and am planning to move sometime soon, so I was looking for a mattress that could be rolled up or folded in three and easily carried. Because our room is small, so every day we get up, we want to spend a day in a clean room with no bedding around. I tried several futons before meeting this futon, but there was no satisfactory futon so far. For example, when we open the delivered futon, a 3-inch futon is vacuum-compressed to 1 inch, and even after opened, the product description says 3 inches thick, but it may only be about 1.5 inches. We felt so disappointed. On the other hand, this futon is thick enough and uncompressed and arrives in a fluffy condition, so it is very comfortable. I think you can feel your body wrapped in a fluffy futon the moment you lie down. The cushioning is completely different from the futon we used before. The previous futon felt that the back was on the floor when sleeping, it hurt, and it felt very painful while sleeping, but this futon is completely different. I wonder what was the days that I endured that pain. You might worry about ticks because it is used on the floor directly, but it is safe because it is made with anti-tick, anti-bacterial and deodorant materials inside. I think it's better to move the futon once in a while and clean the floor just in case. If you choose Japanese mattresses, you should be aware of whether they are compressed at the time of delivery and how long they are compressed as well. The reason is that if the cotton is compressed with vacuum seal for a long time, the cotton will get hard and will not return to its original volume even after it is opened from the package for a while. If you see complains saying that the thickness of the other futon is different from what described in their product page, it is probably because the futon was delivered with compressed period was too long unfortunately. Because it is strongly compressed, the compressed futon become hard like a stone, when you hit it with your fist, you will hear sound similar to knocking door. I really like the space-saving duvet that can be folded in three every day and put away in the closet, and this futon that is fluffy from the moment it is delivered because it's uncompressed. This Japanese mattress is perfect for me. I spend time in a clean room every day, sleep on a fluffy futon, and even when I travel, I carry this futon on my car, I am thankful to this futon that I am feeling good every single day. Also, when purchasing a futon, you can also get a futon cover here. It is safe with 100% cotton. People who know how to dry and maintain a futon will have no problem, but those who don't know or who can't do it due to weather problems can use wonderful Japanese mattress cover to keep your mattress clean.

TLDR at the bottom of the review- I am a 30 year old woman (please ignore the tasteful unicorn bedding) with back and hip pain. Recently I had the majority of my furniture moved out of my place into a storage unit, but I’m still staying in this place for 4 more weeks and was left with the option of sleeping on the floor or an air mattress, but then I remembered the Japanese futons I often saw in manga and anime. I did some research and compared all the other futons available on Amazon and decided on this one based on it’s extra thickness and the fact that it wasn’t vacuum sealed which made it easy to use right out of the box. (Speaking of, the box it comes in is HUGE.) I’m happy to say it’s just as comfortable as I hoped it would be!! Some things I added to ensure maximum comfiness: - bought a futon cover to protect the futon - put an unzipped sleeping bag on top of the futon and its cover to provide extra plush - put a padded twin mattress protector on top of all that I’m sure it’s comfortable without all of my additions, but I’m used to sleeping on one of those pillow top mattresses and wanted to ease the transition. Even better than my actual mattress I woke up with no back or hip pain! TLDR; If you’re searching for a futon from Amazon THIS IS THE ONE YOU SHOULD GET. I did the research for you all and I can say this is the most cushioned, most highly reviewed, and highest quality for the price you can get. Spend the extra bucks on this one it’s worth it!

Big mattresses are a scam. I've been sleeping on this for about half a year now and I have no problems at all. No aches, no pains, nada. Zilch. Sometimes, I lay down on this thing, and I think about all the times I spent $800+ dollars on a 'comfort mattress,' only to have something less comfortable than this. It's so tiny, and so thin, and so comfy, that you will wonder how it's possible. Granted.......I only weigh about 150 lbs...so results might vary by weight, but this thing hasn't deformed in shape at all, there's no sag, there's no obvious spot where I have been lying.....it still has it's original shape. I legitimately don't understand why western beds are so huge anymore. I have so much floor space in my room that I've been able to enjoy VR gaming again. I could not do that with a bed in the way. Best part is, you just fold it up like nothing and can put it in the closet if you want more space. Even if you don't want this for yourself, you should AT LEAST consider buying one just to have in the house, in case a friend/relative sleeps over and you want to offer something potentially better than the couch.
