I've been able to keep some plants in my yard this year. There are some critters just plucking things out, so I'll likely put more and more of these out to give them some ouches on their feet. I've noticed the squirrels are tipping them over, so I may have to fasten them down vs. just setting them next to the plants. Pretty much all the plants with these surrounding them have been left untouched. They blend in with black mulch so they're disguised fairly well. Slowly adding more as needed.

It has only been installed for a few days, but it seems to have solved a problem I had with a woodpecker trying to attack my house. I wouldn’t say it’s easy to install, for the same reason it keeps the birds away. It is hard to hold the spike strip in place and either nail or screw it on because of the spikes which are fairly sharp. Also, the drawing shows it being bent so that it can go around a corner, but it’s hard to bend it without cracking it. After a few tries I got the technique down, but it creates a weakness in the joint. For now it seems to work.

Okay, so they say “bird spikes”, but I use them to deter the raccoons and cats from climbing in my yard. They still tried it a couple of times, but I haven’t seen them lately. These spikes are very sharp, so if you have children you will need to place them safely and strategically.
