Birchwood Casey products are generally pretty good. I’ve used their stain before on wood products with great results. Depending on the type of wood you’re trying to stain determines the strength and number of coats. They recommend you dilute it 50/50. I ended up using it full strength and two coats on this particular project with great results. You really need to test it on a small spot before proceeding. I thought the true oil would help darken the wood but it didn’t . Side note: the true oil makes a beautiful finish. ... show more

Review of Birchwood Casey Walnut Wood Stain, 3-Ounce I didn't mix it 50/50, since I wanted a deeper walnut stain. Very pleased with the way my wooden cat scratching post turned out. It was plain unstained wood when it arrived. Make sure you wear gloves when using, it's hard to get the stain off your fingers. What I don't like is the long drying time, it took a good 24 hours before I could put the cat scratcher together. I've used Minwax Express stains in the past, and they take only 1-2 hours to fully dry. ... show more

had globs of thick chunky brown in it ruined the stain had small particles left behind on product I was staining tried to strain and when I did was a ton of that thick globs that came out with little liquid, first time this has happened to me using this product and for the price for so little it's very disappointing ... show more

Birchwood Casey has fanatic follower group, which believe that this is a top grade product. I decided to give it a try. I can say that it is OK, but not great. Reason? it says this is "concentrated solution, dilute with water". I've applied to wooden board it without dilution, and it is still very light, and not exactly walnut color (check left side on the uploaded picture). On the right side, I've applied Meyer brand walnut stain. As you can see, it is much richer and true to life color, compared to Birchwood stain. One thing is great that this was a cheap can, so I didn't lost too much, but lesson learned for future for sure. ... show more
