  • Looks nice, good quality, assembly not difficult Looks nice, good quality, assembly not difficult
Color: Natural Wood
I did not get this sandbox for kids to play in. I just zero-scaped my yard, so there were no longer any dirt areas for the neighborhood feral cats to use. So I got this sandbox for the cats. That said, I cannot give any opinion of how sturdy it is for children to sit on or play in. For my use, I found this sandbox to be of decent quality and sturdiness. The primary reasons I chose this sandbox were because it came with a ground cloth to put under the bottom to keep the sand contained, since I have it sitting on gravel, and because it had an adjustable height canopy. I'm a 56 yo woman and put this together by myself without any trouble. When I clicked on the question "how long does it take to put this sandbox together", the Rufus response said 15 min. That did not sound realistic at all, so I ran a stopwatch while I put it together, and started it when I opened the box, since that too is part of the assembly process. From opening the box until it was completely put together, was 2 hr 20 min. I'm not an idiot, I understood the instructions, worked efficiently and used my power drill with a Phillips screwdriver bit, so that 2hr timing is much more realistic. I think the only way it could be done in 15 min is if you don't start timing until after all the parts are laid out and identified, you've memorized the instructions, and you work for the manufacturer and have put together hundreds of these and know how to do it by heart. For those of us that haven't ever put one together, need to consult the instructions as we're putting it together and doing it alone, just plan on a couple hours. It was not difficult to do, just took time to do it right. The instructions say it needs two people to put it together, but I did it by myself. The only time it would have been a little helpful to have another person, was attaching & leveling the canopy on the side arms, but I managed fine on my own. I did read the other reviews before I bought this, and heeded the advice of another person that recommended putting the canopy together before putting it on the sandbox, which made perfect sense to me, so I did not follow the instructions for the canopy. The wood is a soft type and the screws are "self biting", so they were very easy to screw in without pilot holes, but you do need to be careful to not screw them in too far where they'll lose grip. There are only 2 things that I think would make it better. 1) there needs to be a 3rd #13 wood strip, to screw the canopy onto the center #10 cross bar for added strength in the wind - it comes with only two #13s to screw down the canopy to only the side #10s. 2) I added a 3rd screw holding the center #10 cross bar to the triangular sides, because with the soft wood, that piece wanted to pull loose, so the 3rd screw held it snugly. Tip, I left a small gap between the #12 and #13 wood strips where they met at the corners, to allow water to drain off when it rains. Since I'm keeping the canopy very low and close to the box, I did cut a small opening on each side for the mounting bar to slide through the material. As for how much sand it needs, I ended up using six .5 cu. ft. (~50lb) bags of natural brown play sand, which filled the box half full. It could have taken more, but half full is all I needed. I found it interesting that the instructions say to take it apart and bring it indoors when it's not being used, to keep it from getting wet or moldy or rusting, since the wood or parts are not treated. I don't think that recommendation is realistic, since I doubt anyone is going to be manually scooping and relocating 300+ lbs of sand seasonally. I live in Colorado, so damp and humid isn't an issue here, but people in other places may want to keep that in mind. I plan for my sandbox to be out in all weather conditions year round, so we'll see how well it stands up over time with temps that can be 100+ in the summer and sub-zero in winter. I think the only thing that potentially could need replacing would be the canopy, if it rips, because we do get really strong winds here right at the base of the Rockies. When/if it does rip, then I would get an oxford cloth as a replacement. Easy enough to do. Overall, the box looks very nice, was easy (not quick) to put together, the instructions were easy to follow, and it took only a screwdriver to do the job. ... show more

  • Easily worth the investment Easily worth the investment
Color: Natural Wood
Like the other reviews, I needed to provide my own screws. The ones that come with the product are just very flimsy and small. When I go to close the lid from a bench to a lid, it doesn’t fit because the slats were cut too long to fit around the bar for the awning easy fix though my son loves the sandbox even with the few flaws. it’s a nice product. It smells great, and once it’s all put together with the sand in it is very sturdy I use 300 pounds of sand it could’ve taken more, but there was no need to put any more in there ... show more

  • Good quality for the most part
Color: Natural Wood
Bought as a birthday present for my son and it was definitely worth it. Gave 4 stars due to the top not holding up the best but doesn’t affect anything else. It’s been over a year since purchasing and the wood still looks new.

  • The kids love it!
Color: Natural Wood
I purchased this sandbox for my granddaughters about 2 years ago. They have had so much fun playing in it and it’s held up well. We love that the sandbox can be closed when not in use protecting the sand from the dogs and neighborhood cats. The chairs are a great feature. When I go out to play with the girls I can sit on a seat instead of in the sand keeping clothes for the most part clean of sand. The sun shade also helps protect the girls from the sun and is beneficial to extend playtimes. I’d recommend this products to others interested in this style of sand box. ... show more

  • cheap, molded within 2 weeks, bugs!!!
Color: Natural Wood
I’m not one to typically complain.. but it’s been about a month since we finally set this box up. (I purchased it in February ish??? For my son’s 1st bday in April. Wanted to wait till warmer to set it up) Well it rained for a week I had the canopy down and did my best but the canopy doesn’t protect the box at all! So next time I opened it up the wood is molded !! The bottom doesn’t attach so it’s easy access. Tonight I went out to the box and BUGS were everywhere! My son cannot play in this box!! I’m going to have to figure out how to get these bugs out. But for almost 200 dollars between the box and the sand to fill it. I’m furious!!! He can’t safely play! I wish I would have just gotten a cheap plastic 50 bucks on one and the kid would have at the VERY least protected the sand. It LOOKS beautiful. That’s IT. so so so dissatisfying. I would NEVER recommend this to be purchased. Which again I hate to be critical but it is just the truth!! ... show more

  • Excellent little sand box
Color: Natural Wood
Sturdy little sand box. It has withstood high winds and rains. Our 6 yr old loves to play. It holds sand well and provides shade and seating for the kids. Closes easy enough that the child can do it. Was a bit smaller than I anticipated but holds 3 under 10 yr old kiddos. Was a bit difficult to put together as the instructions were not very clear. ... show more

  • Cute but not well made Cute but not well made
Color: Natural Wood
This sandbox is flimsy. The built is not firm or for long-term heavy duty support. Only a few days after building it shifted already and now it does not close well. It was never straight even right after building it. Some pieces had cracks, which thankfully didn't affect the function, like it did for some other people I've seen in reviews. From the picture you can see that the fabric covering the top is already banged up by the wind. Also, the roof cannot be tilted one or the other way because of the wooden pieces for support, as you can see from another picture. So don't be counting to block side-sun. The size is what is described in the product - it is small so make sure you know that and don't trust the pictures from the seller. It also took 2 months to be delivered. If this wasn't a gift, I'd be pretty unhappy with the purchase. ... show more
