  • THE option for amateur or enthusiast night vision
Size: NVG30
The media could not be loaded. BLUF: They give a great experience, especially considering the price point and digital form factor. Be aware of a couple minor nit-picks. Nitpicks: 1) The images show that this kit doesn't come with a battery, but I didn't see it in the description. I didn't take a star off as this is a pretty minor point and likely is to avoid shipping lithium, but you should be aware that you won't be able to use them "out of the box" unless you have a battery. For what it's worth, it's the same battery as your Streamlight or other common flashlights. 2) This listing comes with a "gift" adapter for a Wilcox style mount. My Wilcox mount is a knockoff, so I cannot tell if the issue is my mount or the gift, but something is pretty significantly out of spec; there's a lot of slop. Still, it's manageable and for a free add-on, it is appreciated. 3) The menu is a feature-rich function, but navigating it is a tricky when your realize the power on/off button is assigned the "select" function. If you "select" something hard enough, the unit shuts off. My use: I live in the woods and was looking for a unit I could use to identify any potential predators (coyotes, bobcats, etc). My intent was to mount the unit on a bump helmet. Given my use-case, I wanted something that still allowed me to get a cheek-weld on my rifle and this appears to meet the bill. Background: The NVG30 enjoys a solid reputation as a viable digital night vision unit which addresses many of the issues with older technology, including the NVG10. A brief search online will reveal that the NVG30 even enjoys a lot of respect amongst night vision purists who favor analog systems. As an affordable option, this unit is more than adequate. Functionality: The NVG30 has three control buttons which allow you to power on/off, control the filter OR the IR light (but not both), and adjust the zoom. The zoom button simply cycles through 1x, 2x, 3, and 4x. The combo filter/IR button will cycle through filters by default, but will switch to adjusting the IR light on long-press. The IR light has 3 different output levels which helps avoid the subject being "blown out". I didn't need the IR light until I went into the pitch-black woods upon testing (on a moonless night, I could see fine passively). I find the buttons to be in a great location regardless of whether it is mounted or not. NOTE that if you are using the units in a binocular format, the buttons on the left eye might be a bit more awkward. The eye cup is "good enough" with a slight asymmetry to follow your face. It would be nice to have it a tad deeper, but overall it's pleasant. Each display mode has its novelty. Note that due to the nature of IR light, the "true color" mode will tend to skew purple. This is just physics, not anything specific to these units. The large aperture has a focus ring which moves freely. That is both a blessing and a curse since it means refocusing on objects near/far was simple but it can easy be knocked out of focus by the slightest touch. This may be preferable for some, but I found myself wishing it was a tad more resistant to accidental adjustment. The Experience: The 30/40 fps refresh makes walking around manageable, though it takes some slight getting use to. I really want to try these in binocular format (maybe I'll see if I can snag another one on sale), but my immediate concern would be the field of view. For what these are, FOV is fine and entirely reasonable. With that said, walking with them takes a lot out of your situational awareness. I found using them in monocular format manageable because your uncovered eye still maintained the FOV that you lost through the unit. To an extent, this is just the nature of using these sorts of optics. However, given that these are entry-priced for NVGs, it is still worth noting. They do a good job of adjusting gain based on available light. As mentioned their passive performance is pretty good, only requiring an IR light in total darkness. Don't get me wrong: they definitely get grainy as the light grows darker, but I felt I could identify people and animals easily in very poor conditions without having to light off IR. There is a really feature-rich option menu, but getting through it is a bit if a chore. The power on/off button is assigned the command of "select" in the menu which creates a situation where you could be attempting to select a menu item and accidentally shut the unit off. Not ideal. Conclusion: This unit is not without its faults. With that said... it's a hair over $400. Come on. The features (including many I don't mention here) and passive low-light performance make it more than worth it. I have worries that a binocular experience might be subpar, but fortunately there are lens add-ons you can get to increase FOV by 25%. Would I recommend it? As of now, yes. We will see how they hold up over time, but out-of-the-box they appear to be a solid purchase. Now, Binock, let me see a lightning seal or a coupon code so I can test these babies out binocular-style! ... show more

  • Great for stargazing
Size: NVG30
Easily one of my favorite purchases. Great for stargazing and night vision. Small, compact, and great value. Remember to keep it charged as the battery will drain in a few days.

  • Just save for Analog
Size: NVG30
I'm so dissapointed. Three major issues. One, Target identification/clarity. If you need to positively identify a target past 25 yards, its not happening. Using the IR illuminator actually makes things worse. The clarity is terrible. Two, which should be one, Lag. The image lags causing you to feel extremely nauseous. If you move your head the image has to "catch up" This leads to had eye coordination isssues and makes tasks like walking or even picking things up harder. I almost fell down a set of stairs. Three, eye relief/mount. If the device is not exactly centered, the screen is super blurred. The included mount is impossible to get right. I would not reccomend digital night vision. ... show more

  • Fantastic Night Vision Googles!!!
Size: NVG30
I checked out a lot of reviews online before finally deciding to get the BINOCK NVG30. After visiting their website, I realized BINOCK is the actual manufacturer of this product. I bought the NVG20 before, and it was terrible—it was a fake. Make sure you’re careful when buying! The NVG30 is the real deal, but the NVG20 is definitely a knockoff. ... show more

  • Very good for what it is
Size: NVG30
I work overnight in a urban commercial area with significant neon signage, parking lot and street lighting interspersed with areas of deep shadow. This mix of light and shadow makes analog NVDs worthless but is the ideal environment for a digital NOD. I can peer into shadow areas and see clearly without concerns of panning into a bright light that would damage or trigger the autogating feature of an analog device. When checking the wooded areas with much deeper shadows and less ambient lighting, the IR feature really comes through. The NVG30 is compact enough to carry in a jacket pocket. A fully charged battery lasts for a full week of intermittent use (5 - 10 minutes of checking the surroundings for sneak thieves, creepers and domicile challenged urban outdoorsmen throughout the night) The magnification, and recording features are great bonuses not found in far more expensive analog NVDs as is the NVG30s ability to function in full daylight. ... show more
