This is the thickest and most durable bed that I have gotten my dog. The price is high, but warranted due to the extreme (7") thickness and high-quality of the foam. The cover is a very nice, great quality material as well. I ordered the tan color in extra-large for a 100lb dog who is still growing. The tan/khaki color looks very nice and I chose it because it was stated to hide saliva/drool marks well- which my dog does a lot of. I ordered the protective liner, which is sold separately, to help preserve the longevity of this bed. For me, putting the khaki cover back on after applying the mattress protector was very difficult! I put a twin bedsheet over his bed so I will not need to take it on/off again any time soon. I think it was so difficult for me because I am pretty short- and close to the same height as this bed. I am very happy that the bed is the size it is though. The bed has ample space in size extra-large for even a 100++ lb dog. The bed arrived a few hours ago and my dog has mostly been busy with other things (toys), but tonight I am sure he will lay on it a lot. I tested it and found it to be extremely comfortable. The bed is still expanding a bit from the packaging, but for the most part it seems close to full-sized and started to expand rapidly as I took the plastic wrap off. The material also feels better than my mattress! I can tell this bed will hold up to a lot of weight/pressure by the feel of laying on it myself. The headrest is also perfect, if your dog likes that kind of thing. I noticed that my dog likes laying his head on my pillows, so I knew the headrest would be great for him. This is a great, comfortable product for big dogs. I highly recommend this bed because it is very well-made, a nice huge size, and because it is very comfortable material that will protect big heavy dogs' joints while they lay on it.

When I first read about this bed and did a little research (Thank you WorldMastiffForum.com!), I wanted one right away. After I saw the price, I had to think about it for a few months. We didn't really need another bed yet as I had been taking good care of the two most recent $100 plus orthopedic beds we had by keeping them covered with fitted sheets and fleece throws that I could take off and wash frequently, but the foam was gradually flattening despite my best efforts of flipping and rotating the beds. Finally, we decided our rescue babies, a 130 lb. female mastiff and 120 lb. male great dane/Labrador retriever mix, would get a giant Big Barker to share for Christmas this year! Unfortunately, we found out in October that our male needed TTA surgery for a torn ligament in his knee. We decided to order the bed early so that he could get used to it and then have a comfortable place to recuperate after surgery. When it arrived and we finally got it unwrapped from all the plastic wrap that compressed it to about a fourth of its size, we were surprised at just how large and heavy it was! As per the instructions, it took the foam a few days to fully expand at which point my husband hauled the bed upstairs to our bedroom. We added the waterproof liner and the cover (it took both of us to do this), then topped it with a mattress pad and a sheet that can be taken off and washed a couple times a week. At first the dogs weren't that thrilled with the bed, but over the course of a week, it became their preferred bedtime spot. Both of them can lay on it comfortably, and when only one dog is using it, they can stretch out as far as they want and still be supported. We moved the bed to the main level and surrounded it with a folding pen for use while recuperating and it has been wonderful for that purpose! There was more than enough room for our boy to stretch out, get up and turn around. We also had plenty of room to sit beside him and do passive range of motion exercises on his leg. I have to confess, we even stretched out beside him and snuggled for a lot longer than we would have had it not been so comfy! It's been two weeks since his surgery, the surgeon said he's doing remarkably well, and he's been given a little more freedom to move about. Guess what? After letting him out this afternoon so he could move into the adjacent room which is carpeted and contains two older hundred-dollar-beds that we restuffed, he chose instead to return to his Big Barker bed! We are impressed with the quality and construction of our Big Barker giant bed with headrest (...which they use adorably!) and are very happy we made this purchase. Yes, it was expensive, but the beds we had been buying weren't cheap and those wore out. We even ordered memory foam mattresses and egg crate foam (again, not cheap) and cut that down to restuff a couple of beds hoping to get a bit more use out of them. With Big Barker offering an unheard of 10 year warranty, this bed will likely outlive many of the dogs for whom it's purchased. We'll be buying another Big Barker as soon as those other beds we have go flat ...or I get tired of stuffing, rotating and flipping them. ;) Update: Since our original purchase of the GIANT Big Barker bed reviewed above (which is still as full and supportive as ever), we've expanded our collection. We bought an XL bed with headrest for our dog with knee problems to use downstairs and stacked the two existing ortho beds for our mastiff. It seems that even two regular beds can't compete with the comfort of a Big Barker though as she would find ways to get him off the new bed so she could steal his spot. The only solution was to order another XL bed, our 3rd Big Barker in 9 months! It's a huge testament to a product when your oversized lap dog chooses to lie on his bed in another room over laying with you on the couch, but that's exactly what happens most nights. We highly recommend Big Barker and look forward to more products from this company!

I would like to recommend anybody searching for a QUALITY dog bed to look no further than Big Barker Beds!!! I have to admit I was hesitant to spend over 300 dollars (XL plus Liner) for one dog bed. In fact I spent over 2 weeks researching different types of dog beds and reviews. Let me backtrack a bit, you see my Border Collie was recently diagnosed with the beginning stages of Hip Dysplasia and I was beside myself in wanting to know all about the disease and what steps I could take to lessen her discomfort. knowing that dogs spend a fair amount of time sleeping I have always had dog beds, but It seemed I was buying a new bed every 2 years because they would flatten like a pancake. Armed with the knowledge that I now had with her Dysplasia I was now determined to get her the best bed I could find! I finally saw the Big Barker Website. I read the reviews on their site, then hopped on to Amazon. I spoke with the owner of Big Barker Beds (Eric) to ask him some questions and was blown away with the customer support. He took his time and never made me feel rushed during our conversation. I knew right then and there that this was the company for me. You cant go wrong with a hand crafted American Made dog bed. I have Amazon Prime and in no time I had my 1st Large Big Barker Dog Bed w/Headrest plus Waterproof Liner.. I was immediately blown away by the craftsmanship. The foam is thick and the cover is sturdy yet soft, the waterproof liner is of high quality and doesn't have that cheap funky odor so many of them do. I followed the recommendation of using one of their blankets on top of the bed to get them used to their new bed. She went straight to it and laid down and then went to town trying to fluff the bed, I held my breath..... lol no worries this cover is tough!! The bed is sturdy yet comfortable, my Husband and I took turns sitting on it and we couldn't feel the floor!!! My Border Collie before used to limp after getting in and out of her past dog beds. After one night, yes one night I had one rested pup....she no longer gets up every few minutes to readjust her position and the limping in the morning is gone!!! I know this bed is not a cure for Hip Dysplasia by any means, however owning a high quality bed that can ease her pain is truly wonderful!!! For any concerns about putting the cover through the wash be assured that the cover is easy to take off and put on. I have had to wash it a few times so far and no problems what so ever with shrinkage, even in warm water. However I do recommend you wash in cold water per the instructions I just happened to forget to set to cold. If there was anything I would suggest, it would be to add a side bolster as both my Border Collies love to cuddle up against something in their beds, I got around this by using a body pillow against the side which works out perfectly. I was so blown away, by the craftsmanship of Big Barker Beds I just recently bought my other Border Collie his very own Large Big Barker Dog Bed w/Headrest plus Waterproof Liner. I am so glad to have found an American Made product whose main concern is making an excellent dog Bed, not to mention phenomenal customer service. You will NOT be disappointed.
